That's the mastery of samplin' right there, way the cuts were used was so not obvious. Hard to figure out for a regular listener. RIP JMJ, RIP old ONYX.
Onyx is still doin music tho.
@@edgardomateo6459 Yeah but they are not more like in the 90's.
Shoutout to the JMJ for discovering them. Rest In Vinyl to the Legend!
Not even rappers today can get hard or beat ONYX. But them artist need to “wakedafucup” Although, the Bob James samples never dies..
This is great. I'd love a follow up with their second album "All We Got Iz Us"
R.I.P. Big DS, Jam Master Jay, Chyskillz...
This was my group before Wu Tang Came out. Sticky Fingaz had the Illest verse on Slam!
Drkman That was verse of the year for '93.
Drkman This was my favorite group before and after The Wu-Tang Clan came out,see it goes like this
1.Onyx
2.Native Tongues
3.Wu-Tang Clan
4.Outkast
5.EPMD
6.Brand Nubian
7.Mob Deep
8.D.I.T.C Crew
9.Gang Starr
i have no words to describe how mad production is and how ill all the verses are. Those dayz, when hip-hop was str8 from the street.
Comin thru comin thru it's the mad face invasion 💯
Discovering samples... fun times
Classic i really miss the old school.

Kenyatta Mceachern
Damn, I didn't know Chyskillz died too. He was a dope-ass producer, I wanted to hear more from him.
He's as much responsible for
Bacdafucup being a classic, as Onyx is.
RIP, brother. 👊💜🙏🎹🎧🔥🔥🔥👌💯
Kenyatta Mceachern R.I.P. JAMAICA QUEENS IN THE HOUSE

Chyskillz died? Wowwwwww...
Roger Moore yes sir Flushing Queens legend last time I saw the God was on the bus like months b4 he passed smh
I like that you did a wax only episode on Onyx. I used to listen to this album a lot when I was in highschool.
Throw Ya Gunz samples “Nautilus” by Bob James (1974), “It’s a New Day” by Skull Snaps (1973) (Drums), a replay of “Ah, and We Do It Like This” by Onyx (1990), “Escape-Ism” by James Brown (1971), and “Last Night Changed It All (I Really Had a Ball)” by Esther Williams (1976) (Drums)
N---- Bridges samples London Bridges is Falling Down by Traditional Folk (1744) and “Synthetic Substitution” by Melvin Bliss (1973) (Drums) (Excerpt)
Gatdaf--out samples “Synthetic Substitution” by Melvin Bliss (1973) (Drums) and “It’s a New Day” by Skull Snaps (1973) (Drums)
Yes sir!
Such an underrated album, one of the best
Thats dope with the onyx session with the Bob James samples and the tracks bring back memories
Thanks VinRican!
A yo Vin I been rockin with you for a minute bruh I finally figured out what would be a dope episode (well actually two) the first would be a dope 30 year anniversary and that is Marley Marl In Control vol.1, the second would be Special Ed Youngest In Charge next year will be it's 30th year anniversary as well these are as you know two Golden Era gems, peace out.
Oh wow!!! You've totally done it again, Vin!!!!!!!
One of the most slept on cds as far as the bangar samples.
The art if sampling and creating a whole new song is incredible. Hip Hop needs to go back to it's roots.
Awesome job 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for this one, Slam was the first hip hop song that I can remember the lyrics too as a child.
I absolutely loooove this Channel and Series!

Great Album
Please do one on Shut Em Down by Onyx
Rest In Power CHYSKILLZ
RIP Chyskillz
Dope!
So I'm guessing the bass line on Slam was Chyskillz playing on a synth?? The production on the whole album is just perfect, grimy but also tight and crisp, and the jazz samples really smooth it out just enough. I think the album, and especially SLAM, did much to make gangsta rap more acceptable to the mainstream, much like Black Sabbath and Led Zepp did for heavy metal in the 70s. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Slam is very peculiar in that it doesn't contain a single curse word... Onyx was smart, they made the album for the streets but knew how to make a radio hit too. I remember hearing Slam in regular rotation on a local top 40 station in Abingdon VA (probably one of the least "gangsta" towns in America, haha) and this one song was one of my first times being exposed to hip hop, the spark that lit my interest in 90s hip-hop. A lot of people owe their careers to Sticky and Onyx.
ONYX!
You owe me a bag of bud for this dude ✊🏾
Go bro
Súper clásico!
Awsome.

4:47 Making Emcees Feel It - Onyx ( 1993 )
Zoomers hate Onyx because they presented very masculine, had an intense bass drum, kick and snare boom bap sound and they had actually melody infused into their music via great samples. Oh, and they hate that their flow was understandable and not mumbled.
R.I.P CHYSKILLZ & JAM MASTER JAY ..
BRAND NUBIAN BRAND NUBIAN BRAND NUBIAN
Rip Jam Master Jay

UFO by ESG (1981)
Bruuuuuhhhhhh!!!!!!
But where's the "slam" sample at? I'm not talking about that "champ" song
MasterWuWei I'm wondering if that song was a original with no real samples.
Uncle Robb check this song out and you can hear where they got the baseline from ua-cam.com/video/UAjMecBk3DA/v-deo.html
FUC!!!!!
Checked out that sample in the hyperlink. Sam & Dave never disappoint.
Damn i couldnt figure none of these samples out
Showbiz AG Goodfellas
