    I tried doing that with a pound of sulfur in my basement when I was 10 years old and a really janky apparatus that fell apart and all the sulfur caught fire. I barely made it up the steps and out alive. My parents had to leave the house for a week for it to vent. When they came back I was in even more serious trouble because all the silver in the house was tarnished and pitted.

    I'm making a chemistry mod in minecraft, and sulfuric acid seems to be an important ingredient in many industrial chemical processes, so I needed to learn how to make the stuff and then translate that knowledge into in-game.
    So.. Basically.. When translated in-game, it goes..
    1. Burn sulfur in special custom-made machine that uses the process of burning something and capturing/dissolving the gasses, to capture/create sulfur dioxide.
    2. Using a second machine that lets you dissolve gasses into a liquid via exothermic process, you put SO2 in slot one, and water into slot two, which converts the water into
    sulfurous acid.
    3. Then, sticking the sulfurous acid in a furnace, it is cooked (boiled) into sulfuric acid.
    I'm sure this process is heavily boiled down (pun intended) from the real thing, but this is simply a translation of it into the game in a way that I can actually mod in.

    1: test tube pobably inst optimal, a steel kinda burner would be better, a steel tube with another steel tube inside with holes toward the bottom so you can melt the sulfur and blow air throigh the surface then the sulfur dioxide would be carried with the air, but if you dont like sulfur in your acid, you will need to remove sulfur particles from the sulfur dioxide
    and then there's two methods you can go, first, oxidize to SO3, but the catalyst is very hard to find and expensive so nope
    or oxidize the H2SO3 to H2SO4 by bubbling the SO2 into 35% hydrogen peroxide, then boilling to concentrate and try to destroy peroxide

      The oxygen needs to be in radical form since there is nothing present to break an O2 bond. Ozone can do this, as well as peroxide. They both want to give up that single "extra" oxygen atom, at which point the H2SO3 will happily take it (being both SO2 and H2SO3 are both reductants).

    1. Can one use hydrogen peroxide precise molar ratios to produce concentrated sulfuric acid?

    • @thesciencefurry
      @thesciencefurry  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes, you need the same molar ratios of the two. The sulfur dioxide bonds with the water to form sulfurous acid wich is H2SO3 wich is a weak acid, so we react that with the peroxide so we get H2SO4, the sulfuric acid.

    • @thesciencefurry

      @@schwoedie idk if the last one really is possible because H2O2 is always in a water solution. I guess what you're implying here is that you want to direct the SO2 directly into your peroxide. @@thesciencefurryThis cannot be understated. I am not surprised to see you mention this because I thought it amusing that in effect, to make the acid this way, one must create piranha in situ. At first this won't be much of an issue but as the acid concentration builds, things will change and indeed there won't just be sulfuric and sulfurous in peroxide but a whole different animal that doesn't play around.
      Personally I'd take the ozone approach, for a few reasons, but the piranha factor being one of them (another being the severe dilution factor as noted in your video).

    Hello sir is it possible to use agricultural sulfur?

  • @PyroRob69
    @PyroRob69 9 місяців тому

    This would take months to make any usable amount of concentrated sulfuric acid. I guess if you have no other choice. Might be esier to go to another country and just buy it.

    Get out of here! gold salts are missing or do not exist, and no photographs exist.
    Don't be concerned! No one is going to believe gold can be made from cheap metal.
    White sulfur is only one of the components used in gold synthesis!
    Even if someone discovered that white sulfur can be used to synthesize gold, he would still be unable to identify the other compounds.
