Beachgoers touch whale straying 'dangerously close' to Perth shore

- Australian beachgoers brazenly touched a whale that strayed “dangerously close” to the shore in a perilous encounter.
More than a dozen swimmers were filmed approaching the mammal in the waters off Leighton beach, near Perth in Western Australia.
The cetacean is believed to be a sperm whale and marine biologist Dr Natalie Sinclair told the BBC how close it came to becoming stranded on the beach was “perilous”.

The human touch may be comforting to the whale.
I think they were trying to steer it away from the beach so that it didn't get stranded and probably die.

Surely they could have done something to help it back out. They are supposed to be training people to help with this. It's so sad each whale is precious
Whales often beach themselves when they are sick or dying... same with big sharks... they go into the shallow water because there is less angles of attack from predators, and whales need air, being in shallow water make it easier. However, when they get too close and weak, they end up on shore or touching the bottom too much.
Unfortunately, when a whale is clearly ill, tired and they choose to be in the shallows... interfering will likely make it worse or kill it and this whale is clearly ill. It's only when they are clearly not wanting to be there and have energy that humans intervene.
Unfortunately, unless this whale gets better quickly... we are witnessing it's final hours.

multiple whales have been confused and beached the last couple of days, i believe that this is due to the solar flares it must somehow affect them.

It was stuck at Rockingham beach and authorities euthanised the whale. 😢
