Years ago, I took all my original pressing Beatle (and solo) records - albums and singles - and gave them to a woman I worked with. She was much younger than I, and a huge Beatles fan. She was so overjoyed, she gave me about $80. I was going to give them to her for free, since they were sitting way in the back of my closet, doing nothing. Another coworker (who was also a Beatles fan) came along, nosing around...so I pulled out a 2nd copy of "She Loves You" (with picture sleeve) and told him to go away. No regrets - I'm sure this woman gave those records a good home.

The false start for « I’m Looking through You » was something I always thought to be integràl.
I feel there needs to be a box set of all British and American records. It would likely be ridiculously expensive, but worth it.

Being from the UK I only recently got into collecting the Capitol albums after picking up a copy of Beatles VI. The US albums influenced so many from The Byrds to Brian Wilson etc and deserve their place in Beatles canon. Meet The Beatles is a cracking album and I often play the US stereo Rubber Soul over the UK version. It’s a totally different musical proposition.

I already have the In Mono boxset, Singles Collection, plus all the best sounding UK & European albums suggested by you, so my next Beatles vinyl collecting goal is to (hopefully) get nice, minty copies of all the 'best sounding' US albums. Stereo and/or mono would be fine with me, though I prefer stereo. My family copies that I inherited are pretty trashed! 😬

Since my sisters were older they bought the Beatles albums when they first came out even the gatefold songs and pictures of the fabulous Beatles that's what I grew up on. Basically listening to the Dave Dexter Jr. Versions and AM radio. Using a 60s Turntable. You get the point. When it was time for me to start collecting started out with the red and blue and worked back. In 1987 a newspaper article said the capital Versions were not going to be available and the core UK was to be the standard. Bought everything from Meet the Beatles to Hey Jude. Definitely like to see both Stereo and Mono Versions and the singles in the original capital sleeves.

Speaking as a "1b" generation fan (I bought my first Beatles album Something New around 1969 or so) who originally had the whole U.S. catalog and never even realized there was an alternate U.K. catalog until much later, no I would not buy a Capitol vinyl box set. I want to hear the artist presented in the sound and configurations that they themselves intended, and once I was acclimated to the U.K. catalog I saw the Capitols for what they were - a cheap and inferior compromise of those intentions. So for me, no use for this at all.

I'd like to see a capitol albums boxset. And I'm talking like everything. Original mono + stereo mixes remixed today to make them sound better (sound quality on most US albums were fairly poor from generational loss of the master tapes), put on vinyl, with a rainbow Capitol label, with their respective stereo/mono covers. All in one boxset. Including the United Artists release of A Hard Day's Night, as more of a "bonus" to the other albums. Of course I need to give them an excuse to jack up the price more but I would buy it. I didn't grow up with these albums, rather the opposite. I didn't even know of their existence until I started collecting records earlier this year, to which in my local record store a Yesterday & Today & Rubber Soul album appeared. I bought Rubber Soul, but left Yesterday & Today, but not before noting a small black spot. Keep in mind Rubber Soul was $20 and Yesterday & Today was $15. Both rainbow stereo copies. I didn't think anything of that black spot thinking it to be just a stain or something. Then I found out about the cover up and oh my god when I tell you I drove right back across the state I am so lucky I wasn't pulled over. But, it was of course, no longer there, as it had already been around 2 hours since I left. BIGGEST STEAL OF MY LIFE MISSED.

I would definitely buy a box of both albums and singles, but growing up in Canada would definitely miss the three unique Canadian Capitol albums, Beatlemania!, Twist And Shout and Long Tall Sally. I'd also love to see some of the unique Capitol of Canada singles in the 45 box. Some Capitol of Canada singles even made the U.S. charts as imports. While I love the idea, I doubt Apple will see fit to release any such box, unfortunately.

@@scott2894Ah yes, as soon as I hit enter, I saw that Roll Over Beethoven single on Discogs, a true outlier in the Canadian Beatles discography. I didn't realize All My Loving wasn't a single in the U.S. (in the U.K. it was the title track on an EP), at least not until 1971. I heard it a lot on oldies radio as a kid, and that would explain why. Apparently copies of the Canadian single were imported into the U.S. (and a distributor even had picture sleeves printed up for it), but it's odd that such a strong Beatles track didn't get the same attention in the U.S. as in Canada and elsewhere.

British version has "less cowbell." If you listen to it, it's six beats late!!
On the U.S. version, cowbell plays throughout... This is the version captured on the Beatles' cartoon of the same name...

Back in the day, when the mono cd releases were announced but not yet released, Capitol US did flood the market with the stereo US Lp albums. I bought some to refresh my collection thinking they never would be issued on cd. Then we had the Capitol Master series arrive after a time. If we can stay alive long enough we can enjoy all the mixes from every country in the world. They will be offered someday. My collection is mostly complete due to shady imports and used record store finds. Hope this helps you!

If there were a release of the complete Capitol Beatles album catalogue on CD, I would buy it. I don’t have a turntable worthy of playing a Beatles record, so I’m keeping with CDs for my music collection. I have the 2004 and 2006 sets, but they are almost 20 years old now and not a complete collection of the albums. I have the CDs that would have been in the third set, but it’s not the same as a complete and correct collection would be. I even had to create my own “Hey Jude” CD from other sources to get it.
I’m a 2nd generation fan, but I became Beatles fan at 5 years old in 1973 with the “Red and Blue” albums. I like the Capitol albums and singles mixes because that’s what my parents heard to become fans. Me too really with the mixes on the US version of “Red and Blue”. Example: “Help!” just doesn’t sound right (to me) without the James Bond intro. So yes, let there be a release of the complete and correct Capitol Records Beatles album catalogue on both LP and CD.

When I first started listening to the Beatles I remember I listen to the UK versions I did not know that there were capital versions of all the Beatles albums, until I got from my birthday the Beatles capital albums volume one it was a great CD set I ordered the Beatles capital albums lying to but I discovered to my heart that the version I have is the full down to the mono mix I think there might be a version where the stereo version is true and the mono mix has the true mono versions. I only have one capital single on a 45 and not as the Beatles I saw her standing there and I want to hold your hand which is the mono version but it’s still great to have. it would be great if Apple could re-master all the albums from the original capital master tapes and included in the capital albums box that should be the Beatles rarities album among others.

I have fond memories, as a second generation American fan who grew up with the US editions of the Capitol Beatles albums, but, having had my eyes opened to the UK versions by Carr and Tyler's 'The Beatles-An Illustrated Record' book age 10, I always knew that I'd eventually settle on the albums as the band had intended them. As such, I can't imagine I glean anything from a US albums box set which would, for me, amount to an expensive fetishist curio and an Apple cash grab.

  • @stratocat9999

I would be totally on board to buy a Capitol LP Box set, but they would really need to do both a mono and stereo release and use Capitol masters. I was quite happy with the CD box sets and disappointed that volume 3 never came to be. I bought the US Albums CD box as well, and enjoy this immensely, and it has it's place, but I would really like to see the Volume 3 CD set finally issued and a re-release of the Vol.'s 1 and 2. That would be good enough for me.
A Capitol 'Singles' box set would be outstanding, again, if Capitol masters are used.

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask a question, but I recently received a stereo copy of the US A Hard Days Night and I think it plays in Mono as the cutout in John’s harmonica does occur as well as Paul’s voice crack on If I Fell. I would be down for this if the first three Canadian albums were included. Beatlemania! with The Beatles was the first Beatles album released in North America. It alone deserves special recognition. It would be an easy accomplishment since it is identical to the UK's With The Beatles, and was created from the original UK master tapes. It would require only an somewhat altered album cover.

I agree with the others: Absolutely re-release them as a boxed set in both Mono and Stereo on vinyl and I'd buy them. If not at least I was fortunate enough to acquire an entire set of all the US Capitol pressings from a former Capitol employee. They came onto them in the early 1980s. It's an odd set too. No box but it includes every US Capital album from Meet the Beatles to 20 Greatest Hits. They are all stamped as "Property of Capitol Records, Inc. For Promotional Use Only. Must Be Returned Upon Demand" and include a serial number. Most have been auditioned but some are still sealed. All are still in very good condition though. In 2023 they are not getting them back even upon demand. As for the 45's, Yes Sir! Another fortunate thing was Capitol stamped 45s for jukeboxes well into the 1990s. They re-pressed every one of their US 45s on colored vinyl. Jukebox junkies like me lapped them up. Now a re-pressing of those would be nice too!

    • @WC0125
      @WC0125 Рік тому

I must correct myself. The colored vinyl 45 pressings from the 1990s are NOT a re-press of all the US 45s. They are their own Jukebox Only thing made by Capitol for their CEMA Special Markets section. There are even some unique singles from the four individual Beatles too. Now that I look through them I don't know if I bought them all or not. Maybe you know about these and all that were made? I got them from my jukebox only record dealer in the 1990s. None were bought in any commercial shop. Parlogram is quite a definitive source for such information so I hope you can help me out. Thank you

Not unless it had the 'Butchered Babies' cover for Y&T, which is what all Capitol albums are up to Sgt. Pepper: butchered babies. To add insult to injury, there's that washed out reverb on their early stuff. Listen to 'She's A Woman' and 'I Feel Fine' from both Capitol and Parlophone. There's so much added reverb that they almost sound like different takes. So, no.
Oh yeah: George Martin's musical scores for HDN, Help! and Yellow Submarine would be another reason. I remember feeling very ripped off with LPs with one side Beatles, the other side, incidental soundtrack.

Nope! Leave all things as they are, except.... Release Vol 3 of the Capitol Albums as already mastered by Ted Jensen. I know that they were all mastered for release and at the last minute, Capitol held back on Vol 3 as to not interfere with the 2009 remasters. I had a conversation with Ted Jensen's assistant, Ryan Smith, and he told me that they were ready to issue vol 3 that were to include, Beatles Story, Yesterday and Today, Revolver and Hey Jude. The remaster work was already done for those albums and were held back at the last minute. He also told me that The Beatles Story that was in the faux capitol albums box was indeed his remaster and was used verbatim as he remastered it. He was pretty bummed out that he did not get a remaster credit on the box set for that Beatles Story. There is too much manipulation being done to the Beatles catalog and I would hate to see any US Beatles material released that would sound as atrocious as that capitol box set. Mastering means exactly that.. MASTERING! Not to add noise reduction or make the stereo picture narrower, or edit and clean anything out that was in the original. Ted and Ryan did a fabulous job remastering the US CD's, and today, they are my go to sets whenever I spin The Beatles. I still cannot believe that I bought the 2009 remasters box set. The stereo and mono CD sound terrible. I want true and honest Beatles transfers.... not manipulated, awful sounding junk. The 1987 CD's blow away these 2009 remasters, to a point that when I first played the Please Please Me CD, I thought that something was wrong with my speakers. The Capitol albums vol 3 as they already exist, please!

I would, if they done them right. Not cheapies, but ORIGINAL MIXES and LP Covers done up properly like they did on the US ALBUM SET. Full cardboard sleeves with glued on slicks, and period correct inner sleeves (but updated to be soft and dust free).

The closest I've gotten to these US releases was the Apple iTunes versions of "The U.S. Albums" which I purchased only a couple of months ago. The U.S. releases are strange. Not what I've been used to, but they are also extremely interesting.

Is there somewhere a list of countries that got the US album track ordering? Some of the best luck you could get as a record buyer would be living on the US-Canada border for new Beatles releases. I had the Canadian Let It Be box, but it was destroyed.

"There's no shortage of Beatles vinyl to buy in 2023" - as long you don't mind stereo digital remasters. But if you want mono analog vinyl- you got another thing coming. If the vinyl available in 2023 are those digital remasters from 2012 (made out of the 2009 remasters), then I'll stick to my 1988 ones. At least, the 1988 remasters sound way better than the 2009 ones. Cheers, Andrew!

I had the Capitol Albums Volume 2 CD's with the incorrect mono mixes on Rubber Soul. Capitol wanted people who had the incorrect mixes to send in their CD for a CD with the corrected mixes. I kept the incorrect mixes. I have mixed feelings about a Capitol Beatles albums box set. The CD box sets that came out in 2004 and 2006 I thought filled the void U.S. Beatles fans were hoping for when EMI and The Beatles wanted their album catalog standardized around the world. Beatles fans in America weren't versed in Please Please Me, With The Beatles, or Beatles For Sale. The 2014 US Albums box set was nothing but a whitewash at correcting songs that were Dave Dexterized, even though songs unique to each album were used (i.e. Day Tripper with it's single guitar riff lead in). I don't know if you can polish up these Capitol sub-masters any more than Ted Jensen did.

The Vee Jay releases should be included. I'd love it if they threw in the Christmas records in both the singles and album box sets. The singles should also include the EPs, but it would be cool if they did "The Complete Singles" on 12" vinyl and CD so they can also be heard on streaming services. And figure out a way to make the Y&T trunk cover removeable to reveal the butcher cover. I'm curious about George Martin's unreleased mixes he had done for "Love Songs" and "Rock & Roll Music", so that would be a good excuse to include those compilations.

You state many Americans listen to the Capital albums briefly for nostalgia reasons, however, I actually like the sound of the songs so much better than the UK releases. Listen to ”I Want To Hold Your Hand” from Meet The Beatles then put on the version from With The Beatles. Immediately you hear the thin, softer sound of the UK mix versus the power and punch of the US Capital version. No comparison! I read once Capital added reverb or echo to give the songs a more rock sound. Whatever they did, it works for me. I prefer the sound of all the Capital versions and am one of those people angered by the 2014 US Album CD releases where they used the UK mixes instead of original Capital mixes. Seems ridiculous to do so and call them the US Albums!

there are always going to be problems with the Something new Cd's vs the LP's First the Mono Mix, has different recording versions on the Original LP's the stereo Mix Lp's are also quite different. I should know! I have both Versions of the Lp's not once, Have I found the original LP versions! so, a Five Hundred Dollar Cd set vs the Great sounding true mix's are not going to be my first pick. I do have these All copied to Jump Drives and my PC in wav format- wav. for editing and making repairs if needed(Only repairs No Edits) and No they will never be shared, sold and or played. and once I can get a playback right to play the Songs On the hopful radio station... we ... that is when you may get the chance to hear the LP's! once you hear them, you will have to ask why the CD Versions both mono and stereo are the same just the mono mix's are down sampled to mono from the stereo mix.
I would like to see, the original LP's reissued both on cd and LP! and on the coreect Labels with correct.. everything!

Reorganizing the catalog in the 1980's was a smart move for younger fans. The U.S. albums are inferior in almost every way. These revisits Apple has done are a fun little lark but ultimately pointless. The Streamlined mono and Stereo sets + the new remasters are all I need. If they want to release complete editions of albums (Every outtake, alternate take, live versions) I'll happily pay up.

Vintage US albums in decent shape are still fairly easy to find here in the US (we did make an *awful* lot of them, after all), although prices for the ones in really good condition are creeping up to even past the price of a new album when they can get away with it. I decided just a couple of months ago to augment my Beatles collection with a set of the original American records up to Yesterday And Today (because let’s face it, American Revolver really IS just pointless), and it didn’t take me long at all to find good sounding copies of every one. The vintages run the gamut from original 60’s pressings to 80’s repressings, they’re a fairly random mix of mono & Stereo, and the sleeves to maybe two of them are in kind of rough shape, but I even managed to find a non-counterfeit copy of Introducing The Beatles, which saved me from having to bother with Capitol’s hopelessly scrambled The Early Beatles. So if a Capitol Albums box set were to be made available I’m not sure I’d even be interested in it.

I like your idea Andrew, I would get an LP box set of the Capital albums. But it would have to be the UK sound quality. Meet The Beatles was the first Beatles LP I owned back in 1975. Then a friend let me barrow his UK pressing of With The Beatles. I like Roll Over Beethoven. I was going to buy WTB, but the price was out of my range. So I bought The Beatles Second Album, ROB was on that one. I listened to it, and I thought something was wrong with my stylus?!?😮. I realized the was a difference of sound quality between the UK and the US. The UK sound is THE WAY to go👍. I enjoy the song arrangements of Capitol, but I CAN'T STAND songs like I Feel Fine & She's A Woman sounding like their in a cave. UK sound is the way to go👍. 🍏

A Capitol albums boxed set in both stereo and mono versions using the real US mixes is essential if you think about it. I grew up in Britain but started collecting US imports from HMV in Plymouth In 1971. I realised then that the US and Canada market was huge and that there were say 3 or 4 times as many American copies of the US Rubber Soul for instance as the UK version. To me, American albums sound great as they are thank you. I would love a mint set with dare I say it an official "Butcher Sleeve", and a singles box set also. Capitol should have realised this year's ago.

Great suggestions, Andrew, since I grew up with the Capitol albums here in the States. And, yes, I would hope the sound quality is just as just as good as the Capitol CD sets! The singles collection in the blue box is superb, as you mentioned; great sound quality, and the reproduction foreign sleeves are first rate. A similar U.S. singles box would be a welcome addition to any Beatles collection (again, depending on sound quality). Hopefully, Capitol would emulate your conceptual design for a singles box set -looks amazing!

I found a big cache of shrink-wrapped OG pressing US Beatles albums a few years ago at a thrift store that I love but I don’t play much because I just prefer the UK albums. Maybe occasionally Rubber Soul or Yesterday and Today. That said it’s hard to go to a thrift shop here in the US and not see a beat up copy of Help! Or Hey Jude vastly overpriced ($30-60) because people think “Beatles = value.”
The only used UK album I’ve found in the wild is actually Sgt Pepper’s but the disc itself is worn down badly. Still cool to see the glossy cover and Parlophone label instead of Capitol.
Also another funny story. I visited the UK earlier this year and when I went to Abbey Road, a tour guide was taking a rich American family around. Stopping traffic for the crosswalk and everything while the rest of us had to risk getting run over. Anyway, the tour guide was in the gift shop piling the UK vinyl on this family and telling them that they couldn’t get these records back home so they should buy them all now. Not true at all, I’m pretty sure you can get the UK versions at Target’s new vinyl section now, but it was very funny. He had his phone out showing the differences between “With the Beatles” and “Meet the Beatles.”

Speaking as a first generation Beatles fan , If Capitol wanted to blow the lid off , they would need to make the set with mixes exactly as issued first time around , not with substitute mixes , and for the icing on the cake , issue as a bonus both the separate mono and stereo butcher album covers with their respective mixes as from 1966 , I'd buy that set in a heart beat !!
