- I take another road trip with my copilot Teresita to one of Floridas iconic gardens, Flamingo Gardens. A 60 acre park dedicated to the natural beauty of Florida botanicals. It’s also an Everglades bird sanctuary, and home of thousands of orchids that decorate the trees. This Easter weekend they are holding their yearly orchid show in their grounds. We pay a first time visit to this historic place that dates as far as the 1920. #botanicalgarden #flamingos #orchids #orchidcare #blooms #flowers #birdsanctuary #florida #floridalife #floridaparkexplorers #floridabirds #cattleya #vanda #encyclia #phalaenopsis

Again I must say thank you Nelson for taking us along on these amazing orchid/ animal shows it's always exhilarating to view! PS I heard my national instrument playing in the background! The steel pan ofcourse to one of our local calypso music!
Thank you! There was a steel drum player in the park. He was playing in between the Hawaiian show. It was a perfect addition to the event. 🤗
Great show

I must visit that place soon!!!
It’s a must for sure.
I believe seedpods of Leptotes bicolor are used in Brazil to flavor milk, ice cream etc. same as vanilla. great video. you are lucky, you have so much choice of orchids in the US.
Wow! I did not know that. How interesting. 😮
Hi Nel I love love love your videos sitting here watching this new one and forgetting I have to get ready for work lol I love how you had us notice the sounding out of the welcome committee at the beginning what a beautiful combination peacocks and orchids thank you Nel and I love you having Terry as your partner in crime lol so I will have to continue watching this later but just wanted you guys to know I appreciate thank you so much
Thank you so much for your thoughts. I appreciate it very much. Glad you are enjoying the segments. Now get ready for work. Lol!
Awe did you see how that Ibis was looking at you!
Yes! It was locked in to me. Adorable 🥰
Hey Nelson!
Thank you for bringing us with you on this great show!!
I have no intention to be grumpy or anything 😅
But I've noticed that the cross between Encyclia cordigera and Encyclia randii are tagged as "Epi. Rioclarenscences" wich is wrong, since it's a cross between 2 Encyclias, the result is another Encyclia.
The proper way to write it is Encyclia Rioclarenscences or E. Rioclarenscences!!
🤩💖
beautiful place to visit. Thank you for bringing joy into our lives through your videos Nelson. Loved all the birds and blooms!
Wow , I really enjoyed this one, those peacock 🦚 are awesome. Please don't take this the wrong way, but why don't you do Terry's hair. ❤😊
I’ve offered several times. She’s debating on a look.
😁👍
Enjoying watching you and Teresita so much fun. Beautiful park and so many orchids to see thanks for taking us along.
🤗
Yeah, I have some orchids Nelson does not have but they are on his Wish List😜. A few years ago, I got a Dendrobium Smilliae and it’s blooming for the first time: 3 blooms🤗. And, recently, I got an Encyclia Bractescens! The reverse happens way more often: I try to get some orchids after seeing them in your collection😄. Thanks for another lovely video😍
Enjoy you babies!🫶🏼
This place is AMAZING! Where do I start? That peacock was strutting his stuff 😂 The flamingos 🦩 were so cool, it reminded me of our zoo here on Oahu, and that iguana was huge! I love how you guys have these Polynesian shows at some of these events 💕 And of course I didn’t forget the ORCHIDS! The orchid display, the orchids that were mounted on trees and all of the beauties that were for sale. Mahalo for sharing this amazing place with us 🤙🏼💚
Thank you! It is fun to have Polynesian shows at these events. It goes very well together with the environment and orchids. This place is really awesome. I want to revisit it soon. 🤗
Hi Nelson, I'm glad you are visiting some of our stops in broward. Flamingo Gardens also rescues animals. Like birds that fall off the nests or that are abandoned. It's a great place.
I’m loving what Broward has as far as nature parks goes. I’m going to be covering them
more in the future. 🤗
It was so nice to see you and Teresita at another Broward event. Enjoyed seeing the orchids at Flamingo Gardens with you and Teresita. I haven't been to that event in years. So nice to see how GREAT the Gardens are looking. So, did you both buy anything?
We did get a few things. I’ll be doing a haul soon. I’m actually out of town at Krull Smith. When I get back I’ll film the haul.
Wow wow wow Nelson I felt like I was in a dream. The introduction of the video with the welcoming sound of the Peacocks reminds of my childhood days visiting Hope Gardens.
Nelson I had a permanent grin on my face right through to the end of the video. The music was just the perfect accompaniment not to mention the Hawian dancers and grand finale that guy feeding the peacocks.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video and have me making plans to attend next year. It’s a must.
Thank you so much for sharing. I’m sure you and Teresita had a wonderful time. By the way a belated happy Easter to you guys.
Ps. Nelson you sang beautifully ❤.
So happy to read this. Your excitement reads through the thread. I appreciate your engagement to my channel. 🙏🏼 reading my viewers positive remarks makes me want to do more and more! 🤗🫶🏼
Oh wow, what a beautiful place! The peafowl were certainly going bonkers in the background, lol! We have a place here in Berlin, called Peacok (typo on purpose) Island where they have the blue and white variety. I love the calls of the male and oh my... I have not seen one fan his tail in probably 30 years! I almost teared up when you showed the tree covered in Cattleya Appleblossoms. I saw the one Roger (Roger's Orchids) has, years ago and tried to getone ever since. They are not available over here. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a Aerides Houlletiana a few months ago and now it's in spike! It will probably take forever though, the spike is not even an inch long so far. Been looking two years to find one. No idea what color mine will be but they are gorgeous no matter what. Speaking of gorgeous and having doubles of certain orchids... I do have three Phaleanopsis Sogo Ann Jessica. One mounted as an experiment and the other two potted.
That park sounds lovely in Berlin. The Appleblossoms are extremely hard to find. You don’t find them here at all. Perhaps I should start mentioning it on my channel this way it will encourage some vendors out there to find them and sell them. I too have a Aariedes Houlletiana with 5 spikes. It was a gift from Frank Smith of Krull Smith a year ago on my birthday. I’ve been feeding it every week with a light mix of 20-20-20 and Cal-Mag. The spikes are getting pretty long. It’s a beautiful flower. Mine is white and yellow. Can’t wait! 🤗
@@naturenel wow, five spikes! I need to step up my game with the fertilizing. the past two days have just been sunny and warm enough for me to bring them outside on my balkony for a few hours. The temperatures are supposed to drop into the mid 50's during the day and mid 30's at night next week. Today and tomorrow we get treated with temps in the 70's. Spring, where are you?
Oh how I miss living down there. I grew up about 2 miles from Flamingo gardens. As a child half of the park we’re orange, grapefruit and tangerine trees. We were always there buying our fruit. Those huge trees with orchids are so beautiful. The flamingos and iguanas are all over that area. That show has really grown. Thanks for bringing back the memories. Fun video
That explained the huge orange 🍊 stand in the park. It reminded me when I was a child seeing them on the roadside on pour way to Orlando.
@@naturenel do you remember the narrow two lane road and the drop off with the water? That place holds a lot of memories for me. I am surprised how big the show has gotten. The alligators have always scared me. I am glad you enjoyed.
Just love these videos my Mama winters in Naples and we are going to check out some shows next year. I was wondering what orchids would you want to try if you had cooler conditions. I have grown award winning African Violets in my grow room and want to grow orchids other than Phals . But I am always intimidated because they seem so tropical. Anyway, peace, love and plants!
Try growing Miltoniopsis. They are one of the most beautiful orchid flowers with amazing fragrance. They do well in cooler environments. 👍🏼
Hi Nelson. I love your channel ❤. Would love it if you could make/give some tips for creating a small orchid wall. I am local in Miami and a beginner orchid caretaker. Thanks.
You may want to install a grid wall and simply hang your orchids from them. You can purchase the “grid panels” on Amazon. Make sure you get the clips to install.
Thanks so much. Sounds like a great place to start 😊!
Yes what Nelson said, or large size Hardware Cloth on a frame... You could finish to match your decor if you'd like.
Enjoyed the trip to Flamingo Gardens, but you have to get better at focusing, it was hurting my eyes so badly. It was great when you would get up close to a flower and focus in, but all of the wide shots were way too fuzzy. But thank you for filming and bringing us along to the beautiful orchid show in such a truly gorgeous location.
You try doing these videos with an iPhone that has focusing glitches. It’s not like I’ve never mentioned it before. It is what it’s is. Just enjoy it for what it is. If it really bothers you, take it up with Apple.
Chysis limmingheii are semi- deciduous and will drop some, if not all of it's leaves.
So good to know. Like the Holy Ghost orchid(Peristeria elata). Thank you!🙏🏼
Two can look nearly identical, but different names are important as the parents can be very different, so while it seems silly to have different names when they look functionally identical, their genotype is different..
Peacocks are calling for the females
Spring is in the air!
@@naturenel Ya that garden is nice with all the beautiful birds and "alligators" I could do without them but it's ok.
I understand flamingo gardens is a non profit organization? I could be wrong.
Yes it is. 👍🏼
