This was great. You think the way I do. I always need an orientation to the tools and interface before we get into the actual demo project. I get so frustrated with tutors who don't explain a tool, its purpose or its location in a menu or panel until they're actually using it. This tutorial helped me map what I know and am familiar with from using other page layout and word processing apps over the years onto Affinity. It was long, but I'll watch it again before I watch most of the others I've saved.

Thank's for the suggestion! Publisher on the ipad has been really handy. Fortunately the interface is pretty similar, aside from exporting and managing assets.

I'm writing a series of articles (chapters) on a topic that will be used in total as a 'course of instruction'. I intend to publish initially as digital, to be sold online, chapter-by-chapter. Obviously, each article will need to be viewable on the most popular devices (desktop, tablet, smartphone, et al). I would like to use Affinity Publisher to compose each and publish. I would also like to have it so that the reader may see two pages at a time and be able to turn pages in a maner similar to what Kindle currently offers for single-page viewing. My question for you: Is there a preferable file format that would work best; and, can Publisher save the document in said format? Thanks in advance.
This is a great tutorial and I learned a lot! The only downside is I cannot find where the collection for the assets mentioned in the video is meant to be. Clicking on the link takes me to the landing page telling me to buy a subscription. Maybe I'm looking in the incorrect spot, but trying to follow along without being able to pick and pull out the images and fonts in the same way made it feel like the tutor was moving way too quickly. In the end, this is only minor and I still feel I learned a lot all the same!

When creating a trifold or Z-fold in Affinity Publisher, the difference between pages facing or not facing is mostly about workflow preference: Pages Facing: This view mimics a physical booklet or brochure, making it easier to visualize how the pages will look when folded. It’s useful if you want to see the layout as a continuous spread. Pages Not Facing: This shows each page individually. It can simplify the design process if you prefer to work on each panel separately without the distraction of the adjacent pages. Ultimately, it’s about what helps you design more efficiently. The end result will be the same once the brochure is printed and folded. Hope this helps!
20 minutes in and can see the similarities to Indesign in certain ways, but also has a similar look and feel to Quark express… looking forward to getting rid of relying on Adobe altogether!!

Hi! It might be that the option to detach panels like the Text Styles tab isn’t available in your version of Affinity Publisher. Make sure your software is updated to the latest version. Sometimes, panel docking options can also be controlled through preferences or workspace settings. Hi! You can align the title by selecting the entire text frame, then adjusting the alignment settings to center the text across the columns. However, if you need precise control, using a separate text frame might make things easier. Both methods can work depending on what you’re aiming for! Cheers!

Still have my fingers crossed that Publisher will include Span/Split columns in the next release. I strongly encourage Affinity to consider adding this feature to the next release so that Pubisher can become a viable alternative to InDesign as a platform for publication production. Until then, sadly, I just can't take Publisher seriously.

Why are the colors very muted when I print the brochure? I have it on cymk when setting up the document and followed all of the instructions for preflight and exporting the document.
@@Covarr Correct, but they still print in rgb. The cmyk option for a home printer will be grayed out... it may show up if printing in postscript but not sure about that.
Yes, there are videos on that, but inside of InD you export your file as an IDML and then open that in AfPub and save it as an AfPub file. Sometimes you will need to make small tweaks to the Imported IDML file once inside of AfPub, but overall, it works quite well! Hope that is helpful.

Probably should have made that clear in the intro. Also, the persona icons change depending on whether you have the Designer and Photo apps installed or not. And finally, as other have mentioned, you said you set up a package of files to use in following along, but there's no link to that package.

cmyk is for professional printers, home printers use rgb thats why
@@Nemiril That is not correct. Most home printers still have cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (or CMYK) ink cartridges.

Why do I always never get what is being demonstrated I have tried to find the window icon as in the video but it does not exist?
Mine is in an odd spot. I am using a laptop. The window heading is to the right of my camera, not on the left where almost everything else is.
