  • I'm doing 15mph along the protected cyclelane on Hills Road when I have to brake sharply to avoid a collision with a taxi. The driver should not drive in the cyclelane and didn't even bother to check. If I'd been 20 yards further ahead he would have knocked me off.

Couldn't see a lot wrong with that, yes they did go in the cycle, but sometimes you have to, and that was no big deal. I cycle great deal andI that what happened there would not have fazed me in the slightest. The main problem is most cyclist are nervous and not particularly confident cyclist. This is most likely due to not having ridden on bikes much as children. I cycled a Huge amount as a child and as a result am totally competent and confident on the road. I never have a problem and can deal with any situation. The best advice I can offer, to anyone that will listen. And this could save your Life,is this. Before you set off on your journey, take a moment, relax, say to yourself. I will encounter some reckless, in condiderate motorists today, but I won't see red, I will anticipate their driving, and deal with it. I won't go mad, I will control my bike and my actions. Calm breathing, there I can do it. Feel free to give the driver a hand later...
