  • This video is part 3 of our end-of-summer two-night camping excursion to Dash Point State Park.
I decided to go for a hike to the beach with Skye after breakfast, but this time taking the Outbound trail for the first time. Diane wanted to give her knees a break from yesterday's hike, so she stayed at the campsite. As I discovered during my hike, this up-and-down trail is steep and challenging in many places. I was amazed at how much engineering was done to construct the elaborate steps, staircases, bridges and retaining walls. Although I would rate this trail as difficult, it is a beautiful hike through the woods, down and up the gullies along the hillsides that leak with several creeks in this protected watershed.
    Background:
This time, we brought both our cat, Lily, and our dog, Skye as a test to see if would be comfortable for us all in the very cramped space of our 2022 Winnebago Travato 59kl camper van. Well, what we learned was that this can work, but Lily gets the worst deal of us all, because she refuses to go outdoors even with a leash. And there aren’t many places inside the camper for Lily to explore. Also, bringing along a cat box consumes too much floor space in the tiny bathroom. Skye, on the other hand, absolutely loved this camping experience, especially exploring the miles of trails through the woods on the hillside leading to the beach.
Located between Seattle and Tacoma, Dash Point State Park on Puget Sound is a great place to camp, hike and play on the beach! And the proximity to Tacoma, Seattle, SeaTac airport, and many great restaurants and shopping malls exponentially expands the exciting opportunities while camping at Dash Point State Park.
