I live in California, North Orange County. Apparently this state has money to waste on this stupid program but no money to help out the small businesses that were forced to shut down during the pandemic that are now beginning to close their doors.
My wife and I went to Florida in April and fell in love with it. It's such a contrast from California. We are planning to move next year and leave this stupid state behind. And Florida doesn't need to worry about us, we vote red.

Such a shame. California is a naturally beautiful state with awesome driving roads, mountains, and beaches to visit. Sadly, the leadership in California has basically said that people like me are not welcome here and if you come here, we will use the power of the state to make your life miserable.

My dude,I'm in PA and was in a newly turned progressive area, my one neighbor was in his 60s and restored old motorcycles to A+ condition. He had Indians, knuckleheads, and triumphs. The neighbors started to call the cops on him when he start them. Yet the landscapers are far louder. Now I live farther from people.
Don’t do anything about the homeless encampments everywhere, go after loud cars cause that’s the problem 🤷🏻♂️

The exhaust camera shit doesn’t work, how can it? With so many cars on a highways passing a camera at once how in God’s name is the camera going to pin point the exact car? It can’t, utter BS, the two Harleys and Aventador Craig mentioned are perfect examples.
I don’t support these regulations but this is hardly surprising. This is what happens when every clapped out civic and Ford Focus makes their exhaust as loud as possible without any real gain in power. Believe it or not most people find your 20 year civic with a glass pack muffler annoying and aren’t impressed in the slightest. When idiots draw enough attention to themselves, idiot politicians will eventually step in. All because some cars owners can’t exercise any self control or maturity.

So 2009 I got a ref ticket for my Celica.
It was for having an illegal suspension system. The evidence they have for this was that I had a very large Optima battery under the hood.
I tried explaining to the police officer since I live in Colorado when it is -30 degrees you need a large battery to start your car.
He told me it's b******* and I have lowrider suspension and I'm going to have to get the car fixed.
At one of these referee stations I showed them my ticket and the person at the desk basically said what the f*** you live in Colorado your car is registered in Colorado your licenses in Colorado. quickly looked under the wheel well to see stock suspension and told me just to leave.
I'd love to setup a very loud audio system next to one of these sensors and play the soundtrack of a top fuel dragster every time a tesla drives past. Great stuff Craig, its great to see your not one of the Californians that are asleep.

Most performance cars only exceed noise limits when held at sustained high RPM. Tests are conducted where the engine makes peak torque. Eg, 6500. Nobody drives everywhere with their engine at that RPM. If they every GT3 on the road would be cruising at 200 mph.
EPA use a blanket test to enforce a ruling pushing a political agenda.

He said if i put a rope or a tie down across that makes it legal. Just wanted to pull me over and harass me is what it boils down to.
I would have told him it saves on gas. There is less wind resistance when you have your truck bed down.

9:43 this is my biggest issue with this. These camera systems are a proven waste of money and I don't see how it can not be argued as unconstitutional when they send you a piece of mail saying basically "don't bother fighting this, you're guilty". This is where cutouts come in handy.

The money from the tickets will go to “traffic calming measures”… SURE, just like the gas tax was supposed to go to fixing our roads and other infrastructures. We all know the money will end funding someone’s reelection instead.

The whole west coast is turning this way… wa and Oregon are not far behind.
They put one of these sensors in Edmonton and it made the loud exhaust problem worse for the people that lived in the area because people found areas where it would not be able to take a picture of their plate and they just sat there rev bombing the area. It was hilarious.
At times I miss California but the politicians have made that state uninhabitable.
That's why I like Florida you could do whatever you want here We used to have a Smog Check here in Florida but in 1998 they removed it Cause there was a lot of shady things going on
I love living here. From the ghetto Hondas with fart cans to McLarens with a $4000 exhaust and everything in between. The car scene here is simply incredible, no state inspection, no tint laws, no exhaust laws, only one license plate required, etc. Then just a bit north we have Atlanta which also has a marvelous car scene.

I wouldn't put 100% of the blame on the lawmakers though. Yes they do go over the top like saying a stock hyundai is modified or whatever. there wont be any difference between these and the red light cameras they tried a few year back. its already been ruled in a court of law that cameras like this are not witnesses and therefor the tickets are null and void. thus, i imagine, just like with the red light camera tickets, these can simply be ignored if you actually receive one. the rlct didnt go against your record and because of what they were, warrants couldnt be issued if you didnt pay them, so nobody did

@@harbingertheheretic3541 according to Honda in a 1970s video I was watching about motorcycles. The smaller bikes had lighter/smaller mufflers because of the smaller displacement. Bigger displacement bikes was the opposite.
Every Harley I hear going by me seems ridiculously loud.

Not to mention, this idea of cameras and a microphone is so far off from how the state referees test for DB levels that everyone who would pass that way is going to have their time wasted, and money "stolen" out of their pockets through no fault of their own, completely unjustified.
I was born and raised in California. I left in 95 because I saw the direction things were going. Never looked back. And it's just going to continue to get worse and worse. Look at the law they passed regarding Semi's and you'll start to see why there was such a backlog at the California ports.

This is not going to go well, this is also going to hurt car dealers.
That is *intentional.* Remember, California politicians want to be the sale of internal combustion engines by 2030. The intent is to make it too expensive for the middle & working classes to own the means of transportation in order to force them onto "public" transport. This is all about reducing the freedom of the people, and increasing the power of government. Once you understand that fact, everything that the government is doing makes sense.
The only downside to winning those cars is lot of people don't take into consideration that they have to pay taxes on them and they usually end up selling then because of it. My co worker won a Corvette from a mall raffle, drove it for a few weeks, and ended up selling it after he got a $30,000 bill in the mail he couldn't afford the monthly payment they wanted because when uncle sam wants his money he wants it right now not 2 months from now. I think they charged him like $600 a month for the taxes I genuinely felt bad for him he was really happy being an American muscle fanatic.
I'd imagine that the cars listed in the video as producing over 95 decibels only make that level of noise at full tilt. One possible workaround would be to treat these cameras like most of us have been treating speed cameras for years: you learn what they look like, memorize their locations (or use an app that knows where they are), and slow down before you reach them. The same principle can work here: you see one of these - don't go full blast when in close proximity.

In New Hampshire, you can claim dual resident purposes. You can also get your cars registered to a community outreach as a homeless person. So all you cali peeps who want to mod your cars? Come plate them in NH. Yes, there is still emissions/inspections, but not nearly as bad as cali. My 2001 C5 costs me 172 to register a year, and insurance is only about 1200 a years with high levels for medical/CSL/etc, but insurance isn’t required.

The uk is already starting to use theses audio cameras personally I’d push for everyone to install a valved exhaust so they can run a loud car but tone it down to escape fines
I'm really curious about the technology behind this... sound waves travel in sporadic directions depending on the environment. What about loud sound systems? Can those set off the sensors? What if a car with a rusted out muffler and a stock 350z pass by at the same time? How does the system know which car produced the excessive noise?
... this will be very interesting to watch play out.
Check out the record of failure of the "Shot Spotter" systems. Millions of dollars spent in DC, Miami, LA, and a coup,couple, of other cities. It turns out that slamming certain car doors registered, but multiple times actual gunshots did not. I figure that this won't have much better results, but it will be used to destroy people's freedom.
This is why I don’t want to visit, explore, or living in the state of California.

The good thing about tickets issued from the camera, you can grow them away and ignore them. If you are not hand served the ticket is worthless.

I'm not a fan of a straight piped exhaust, now my little Boosted 4 banger doesn't have much of an exhaust but it still has a muffler and is surprisingly quiet until over about 4500rpm... Oh and I really don't like my A-pillar gauges! They get in they way more than I ever expected.
