    I’m really happy to have found your video Mark. I bought an ensete last April and in fact I didn’t repot it until September. Indeed I kept the plant under a tree during the hot mediterranean summer and the plant turned into a green form. Since mid-September I moved it in a brighter place (direct sunlight) it gradually produced browner and browner leaves, and the last one is a masterpiece.

      Brilliant. I do think the light can make a difference. But also perhaps the tree was taking the nutrients? I'm delighted it is doing well. Mine are inside for our winter now. Mark

      @@MarksHouseandGardenUK Thank you, Mark! It's been a mild winter here at present, and the plant remains outside, growing very fast even at this point of the year. I plan to make a small greenhouse by the end of December and I will put it inside till March I guess. But it is so impressive that once it was placed in direct sunlight, it gradually (from leaf to leaf) started having more and more the red-brown variegation. It was a beautiful surprise for me. However, as it is planted in a pot (30 cm x 21 cm) it is still short. Probably 50 cm tall.

      I'm sure you could keep them in Saddleworth but you would definitely need to bring them inside (perhaps to the shed or garage) when summer ends, up to late spring.

    I’m getting my first red banana tree this year!!! Thank you for this video and for demonstrating how to overwinter the plant!!
    However, how early can we take the plant outside - what’s the temperature? And what temperature does it have to be for when it’s time to bring the plant inside?

    • @MarksHouseandGardenUK
      @MarksHouseandGardenUK 2 роки тому +1

      I usually wait until April, and i bring it out gradually, in March if we have some fine days i will bring it out but put it back in the garage. I don't water it until it fully comes outside mid to late April. BUT!! I always watch the weather forecast, anything below 3 or 4 degrees i will either bring them back in or cover them in fleece. I'm confident end April /early May they will be safe outdoors. 3, 4 or 5 degrees is the lowest i allow with mine. September October i start to think about bringing it in again. 3,4,5 degrees is the tipping point. Mark

      Hi. We're about to bring ours inside for the winter and I'll do a video. We usually leave only one leaf, remove all the soil and let them dry out in a light cool place. Provided he didn't cut them down too far they should be ok. I would tip them upside down every now and then so that water does not sit at the base od the leaves. Because this may cause rot. Mark

      Hi. I think it depends on your specific conditions, in a greenhouse with light and warmth it will grow. But in the UK i suspect it would not get enough natural light. In the UK we bring ours inside and let the dry and go dormant in the spring. Wherr are you based?

    Essa espécie demora mto pra dar fruto, demora pra crescer e fica muito alta. São mais doces como a banana nanica e macias como banana maça. Tenho no quintal uma dessa que plantei. Aqui no Brasil temos um truque para as bananeiras: colocamos cinzas ou carvão usado no pé da bananeira.
