It is possible to run an 8th or 9th gen processor in a Z170/Z270 motherboard through a hardware mod + modified BIOS but that is clearly not the case in this situation here lol At least the 9400f was saved!
I remember taking a razor Knife to my LGA 775 motherboard to fit a LGA 771 quad-core Xeon into it lol all you needed was a little bit of electrical tape on some of the pins and it would work great, didn't even need to mod the BIOS, it disabled the thermal protections and its clocks would climb from like 2.7GHZ to like 4Ghz shit got hella toasty. That's how I ended up burning out the VRMs on my board
I've been snooping for computer parts and am rather new at this game so the LGA 1151 older version vs the newer one really confused me. I purchased an I5-8400 which is LGA 1151 to upgrade my old Dell 3620 that has an I5-6500 and also an LGA 1151 and learned it won't work smh. Why didn't Intel just name it LGA 1152? Thanks for clearing this up for me. Now I'm hunting for a proper MB for my I5-8400. Glad things worked out OK for you despite the setbacks.
Yeah I was very confused about it when I first heard about it. Technically they couldn't call it LGA1152 because the '1152' is that number because of the amount of pins in the socket, in this case it's 1151. I guess thats why it kept the same name because when 8th and 9th generation rolled out, they decided to revise the existing socket instead of making a new one. But I believe in doing so they had to change the pin layouts to allow for 6 core processors, which is what didn't make these backwards compatible. Was very confusing to learn this haha
What if i told you that you could run a 9th gen cpu on a z170 motherboard? Cause its totally capable with some simple mods. Have you heard of the coffeetime mod?
Haven't watched this fully yet, but I sure hope you do manage to get a i5-9400 system working, that would be pretty neat! And the PC cases are all (in my opinion) better than the ones you get nowadays, as they all contain DVD drives. One of them was even a Blu-Ray drive! I bet you that the PC lot would be well worth it even just for working Blu-Ray drives, as they are pretty sought after.
Yes I have to agree with you there. I guess as we stray away from CDs and DVDs there is less demand for them in a case, but it's always a great option to have. I'm actually going to repurpose that case for my Dad's pc as it's smaller for his mATX motherboard and gets an upgraded dvd drive, lots of airflow options too which is great.
I run the i5 9400F with a 1660ti and 16GB DDR4 @2666MHz, only 6 cores no threads and a limited 9MB lvl 3 cache, still I run Baldurs Gate 3 maxed settings at 1080p and avaerage 54-80 fps in most areas during battle. Very decent performing CPU for its age and price
a selection of 4th gen i5s the only difference being with them is they all have the same l3 cache theres just about 300mhz difference between 4460 and the 4690 being the faster

Wow didn't know that, very surprised its been made possible. Yes I was stoked to save the CPU

Great vid mate, good to see fellow Aussies around! Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much 😊
Great video 👍 definitely lots of noticeable improvements from the last few videos, keep it up!
😊 Thank you, I've been trying to improve on each video I make
Your vids are goated, thanks to you I’m starting to really understand how computers work 🔥🔥
Thank you 😊 Glad I could help

the fan in the psu you used for testing doesnt sound that good... (try to clean it without opening (like with a paintbrush or something))
Yeah it's a quite old, I only use it for quick testing, definitely could use a clean
i see you are growing.. i love to see it
great video, and honestly i think you got your moneys worth
Thank you!
nice! its always better when you pay a little less, but selling off the unused stuff is great to offset the good stuff.
100% agree! The older parts I wouldn't have much use for either. If I can get rid of them for some cash it works out great

Have you heard of the coffeetime mod?
I didn't know this was possible until I got a few comments mentioning it. How cool is that! Might be worth looking into it

Agree, a great CPU
nice video as always

Wow didn't know that, there about there are a lot of 4th gen i5s with different SKUs
ive got an optiplex with a i5 4440 but i use the laptop more its 9thgen i7
Do you have a gaming pc of your own?
I flip them regularly, just picked up an i3 9100 RX 590 system for $300 AUD. Put the i5 8400 in it and have listed it for $800 😉
Yes I have an i7-7700K and GTX 1060 🤣
Picked up a PC from curb side collection. Had a B150 motherboard and an i5 8400 🤣
🤣 No idea why people do this, I guess they must not know. Works out well, because they might think the CPU is broken and just get rid of the PC
Was just a case motherboard and cpu, guess they re used the other parts@@EverythingDesktops
Hmmmm………old PC’s. You’ll make a few bucks.
i just build ryzen 5 3600/b450m-a msi board/adata rgb 2x 8gb 3600mhz ram/arctic a35 cpu cooler and gtx 1060 for 400$
Awesome, I love the AM4 platform
