- It isn’t often I have all three variants of the cushion-cased Seiko 6309 150m dive watch here, so let’s check them out.
PSA: This video contains sub-optimal levels of editing, usually none. We have zero script, no planning, no real editing, nothing. Same for the sound - I forgot my microphone so if you can hear anything count that as a win. Even if that "anything" is tuneless humming. I did pump up the volume though. I have a September '77 and it has what I would describe as "butter-cream" hour marker lume. Single owner Airline pilot I got it from. Un-serviced and with original GL831 strap

The old Turtles are so nice. Best vintage Seiko tool watch IMO. I’m in the market for one!! Just bought a SRPE93 and put it on a uncle Seiko GL83 and it’s holds up to the original. Notice the hands don’t patina the same as the markers. Is this normal or a sign of replacement?

Hi Spencer and Sabrina, is the discolouration of the dail because of the detariaton of the Tritium in the paint?
Because I always see a T at the end of the dailcode at 6. Did Seiko use Tritium at all?

Howdy - I'm not sure, I'm really not. Seiko seemed to change mixes more often than one would think. But with these, it's not a patina thing, it's a "how it was made" thing.
I have a non suwa last year they made the 6309 I forgot what the last year was, anyway the non suwa I have has been going for at least 36 years and has never been open and I still were it so the non suwa must be just as good or better then the suwa.
8:54 In your guestimation, how does a bezel get that scratched up? I know it’s very old, but even the others pictured are nowhere nearly as damaged. Just curious. 👍🏻

I disagree, I have a Scubapro and it's definitely another variant of the 6309-7040. 👍
The Scubapros were based on the 6306-7001 model (Kanji day and hacking) . There were no 6309 Scubapros.
@@rayalford7434 There was definitely a Scubapro 6309-7040. I have one . When I researched the Scubapro all the indications were that there was no 6306 Scubapro. The dial reference is 6306- 700JT on my one, however the movement is the 6309. As with most things Seiko it's pretty hard to be certain about anything. 🤔👍
There wasn't a 6309 as far as I know. I've never seen or heard of one that was clearly original. There are many many fakes out there, and it's easier to put a fake dial (of which I've seen so so many) or a real dial with a fake newly-added Scubapro markings. A real genuine Scubapro will be a 6306.
@@SpencerKleinVintageWatch I bought my Scubapro in Japan. It had sat in a window for some time. I have done a little research on these and inspected this watch very carefully. No one would ever have faked this particular watch. It would have cost them more than the watch would ever be worth. That glitter type ink used on both the dial and the bezel would not be cheap. The ink on both matches perfectly. In order to fake the dial they would have also faked the bezel using the same ink. As a Seiko specialist you will know what happens to the red ink on many Seiko watches when exposed to sunlight over a long period, it goes yellow. Not a bright yellow but a more muted yellow. If anyone could fake this final detail then the entire watch world should bow before them and acknowledge their greatness for they would truly be the finest watch faker in the history of watches. As you are aware the word Scubapro is printed in a pale blue. It is widely acknowledged that no faker to date has been able to recreate this colour. As I stated earlier, my watch had sat in a window for some considerable time. As a result, not only has the red print turned to yellow, but the pale blue has turned white. But not completely, on inspection with a loupe, the remnants of the original blue can still be seen. I am sure you would agree that this would pretty much be impossible to fake. To summarise, we have the words Seiko, automatic,150m, Japan, 6306-700JT and all the print on the bezel being printed in the same almost glitter like ink commonly used by Seiko on many watches, used on my watch. In addition you have the faded red which is now yellow and the pale blue with the remnants of pale blue only visible with a loupe or microscope. I would say the chances of my Scubapro being a fake is zero ! I will happily send you pictures of the watch for your consideration, and may send you the watch for a service. 👍
Sorry but you have a fake ScubaPro mod they never came out in a 6309 model unless yours has a genuine 6306 ScubaPro dial fitted but this would have on the dial face 6306. You would need to check the date stamp on the back of the dial and compare it to the case back serial. Plenty of fakes and mods come out of Japan. If your dial is genuine it wasn’t originally fitted to that 6309 case. Anyhow if the dial is genuine you are on a winner there.
