I also deep condition before I shampoo, I've been doing it since 2010. I once tried deep conditioning after I washed my hair & my hair felt the same as it normally did but it was more time consuming. I didn't think it was worth it to make wash day a whole day event; so it only takes me about an hour & change to deep condition & wash/comb my hair. Thanks for the video & I'm excited for the new series.
Hi Abena! Once again i must say that i thoroughly enjoy your videos. You seem to pay so much attention to what your hair is doing. I wasn't doing that in the beginning of my natural haur journey but i do now. I also use process of elimination when it comes to trying to figure out what is wrong with my hair. Thanks for sharing. You have a humbling spirit and your effforts are greatly appreciated.
Excellent video! I have been pre pooing for over 2 years now, and my hair is moisturized, helps with tangles & shrinkage, and the washing process. My mom did it for the first time today, and I'm going to get her to continue doing it since her partially highlighted hair is dry. Can you please do a video on protein overload and a video on moisture protein balance?
Having fine hair I simply LOVE protein. Its the 1 thing I would never do without. Plus, my pre-poo is critical. I use coconut oil every single week as part of my pre-poo rotating mixing it with Aubrey Organics GPB and a protein free conditioner. Tried and true :-) Your curls are simply beautiful. I haven't been to a salon in a long time but one day I would love to make it over to you!
I love my pre-poo. I HAVE to do it, my detangling process is 100% better with it. Even my midweek wash gets a pre-poo and deep conditioner. I use water and tresseme naturals conditioner or oil for 2 hours or so under a plastic cap and a towel or I'll take the dogs for a walk in the summer and let the sun bake in the moisture. Without the pre-poo its a long detangling process with lots of hair loss.
davis1035 Hi Davis1035, excellent! That is the kind of results that make adding an additional step worth the effort. That is how I feel about my deep conditioning prior to shampoo. Thank you for sharing!! :)
Hi Abena, Thank you for the great info on your channel. I've been natural for a little under 3 years and whilst I've seen much growth (from TWA to below my shoulder) I'm now experiencing major thinning and shedding, which I really don't know what to do for the best to get my hair back on track. Two pregnancies have affected my hair growth performance and strength but I must confess that I struggle with the selection of suitable hair products and to maintain a disciplined hair care regime that effectively caters to my hairs needs. Need to go back to basics, perhaps with a major chop to restore my hair.... In much need of advice and guidance, please help. Thank you. keep up the great work on the channels.
+Marilyn Isles Hi, I would love to help. Since you may be experiencing excessive shedding I highly recommend visiting with a professional stylist or natural hair specialist in person. They would be able to give you an assessment and perform any treatments if necessary.
Wondering if you deep condition before washing aren't you washing out the deep conditioner? Also do you detangle then deep condition? What's your regimen? My hair is doing do much better since I started sticking to one.
+Dionne C Hey Dionne! When you are first starting out and you are trying to get consistent results it's a good idea to journal each time you wash. Right down the process, products used, time it took, how your hair felt and responded on wash day and even snap photo and video for your records. This will help to eliminate the guess work as you build your foundation. I have a general regimen and when necessary I make adjustments based on the style I did or am doing or if something out of the ordinary occurs.
+Dionne C Washing your hair AFTER deep conditioning will only impact the slip factor. The whole point of deep conditioning is deeper penetration of the oils in the conditioner which should not be impacted when cleansing the surface area of your scalp and hair. Sometimes I detangle when I deep condition, it just depends. I will share more detail when I upload my updated wash routine video in the next few weeks. I hope this is at least helpful for now. Blessings!
When i get the root frizz, limpness, or shedding i do a protein treatment & it goes back to whats normal for my hair. I add a little baking soda to my shampoo then protein conditioner (2 min miracle) followed by deep moisturizing conditioner. If its extremely bad i use the liquid protein treatment (forgot the name but it u dry it into the hair. It stinks & gets real hard til rinsed). Works great for me.
Interested in trying a DC before shampooing! Do you rinse with water BEFORE doing the DC to get rid of products that were previously applied to the hair, like heavy oils, butters or gels acting luje a sealant etc or do you just do it on dirty hair? This is the step that puzzles me. Since we seal with products etc, would the DC before shampooing be able to penetrate through the previous sealant/gel? Also, other ingredients in products that stick or build up in the hair. Hope I've explained my query well. Tia for a reply.
When I have DC prior to thoroughly cleansing my scalp I use shampoo on the hair only. I demonstrate this step in a video. Here's a link for your convenience. ua-cam.com/video/XV9NxL4xxQA/v-deo.html
+taliba dudley I have heard of the CGM but do not know all of the rules related to restricting ingredients and use of shampoo. It is often a topic of discussion on my chats on periscope. Hopefully you can join in the conversation one of these days. Blessings!
***** Hi Natalie, Camille Rose Curl Maker is my staple styler since March. I other stylers I used in the past few weeks have been for product review only. In order to have a better handle on what my hair is doing right now, I need to keep it simple and not do product reviews for a while. Since I returned to Camille Rose for the past two weeks I can isolate the issues I am having to just the climate. I hope this clears up any confusion. Let me know if you have any other questions. :-)
@@EmbraceNaturalBeauty Yah, I haven't had a professional trim in over 10 years. I probably need to see a professional natural hair style. I also was wondering if hair oils are necessary? I noticed that you are not using oils at all for your hair.
This lady has always been classy

Hi new subbie here. Love your channel, so informative thanks for sharing!
What you do put on your scalp during the week? I notice my scalp is extra flaky but my hair is greasy/dry.

Hi Abena.
Im thinking of trying the CGM curly girl method. Have you heard of this? I would love to hear your opinion of this method.

Hi Abena do you still use every styler? I thought that was your staple styler.

Is putting oil on the end of hair ok?
If you are putting the oils on to smooth them down you would be better off getting a proper trim. Is that the case?
