I got lost in this video...excellent review. Now I'm 42 and sober for years, but in my IV-drug-using 20s I was seeing a man who hopped trains. When he would come home to Milwaukee we always had so much fun. It was unspoken and understood that he would always leave again after a month or two to ride, and that was okay. He trained his sweetheart of a dog, Sally Ann, to ride with him. In 2009 he committed suicide in Laramie, Wyoming. Thanks for the magic...RIP, Rusty/Arik Hett.
Hi Cheryl. I really appreciate you watching the video and sharing your history with this lifestyle. Mike Brodie talks in interviews about people who had real similar patterns. They'd be around for a few weeks then get back on the train. It seems so important to have a companion like a dog when you're hopping trains. I'm sorry to hear of his suicide, and I hope the video was a good reminder of a friend.
That's very gratifying to hear, and thank you. I know of see/saw but I haven't given it a look yet. I was happy to see he made a 2nd book though and I'd be interested in seeing more analogue processes from him.
I'm not exactly sure what film he's used in these pictures, but I know in other instances he's used polaroid film and Kodak film, but I'm not sure of the stock the kodak film came from.

Thanks for the video Mike. It is going to my photo-book's bucket list.
Happy to make it! This is a great book, and I've become a fan of Brodie's work over the last year. There's lots to unpack.
Really enjoyed this. Make me consider the book in a different way and for that I thank you
Wonderful commentary and insight from you. I heard about Mike thru the book see/saw where geoof dyer writes a piece on this work
