The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Great voice and band.
“ The Animals “ Another Great Band Group From England ! 😊🇺🇸
RIGHT-0👍🏻
Who would have thought that these men from Newcastle, England would have made the impact that they did. As a 15 year old guitar player, our band, The Beau Street Runners, Franconia, Virginia, played every song of the Animals that we could given our ability at the time. And the bass player, Chas Chandler would, little did he know, discover and bring Jimi Hendrix to England September 1966 and the rest is musical history.
I grew up in the next street to Eric Burdon. Marondale Avenue Walkerdene Newcastle England. HOWAY THE LADS ❤
Do you consider yourself a Geordie? How do you define one, please?
Mr. Burdon is charisma incarnate ❤
Animals!
They're simply THE ANIMALS!!! The rest is story!
They just look and sound so cool, can’t deny greatness when you see it.
Perfect love this song but can we please have their performance of bring it on home to me
They were so talented. Loved, in the USA.
Another amazing performance. This is pure, raw talent, at its finest. What you see is what you get. There is no autotune, no lyp syncing, with Eric Burdon's powerful vocal delivery and genuine musicianship, from the entire band. Eric Burdon and the Animals made incredible music. May Chas Chandler and Hilton Valentine rest in peace. Cheers! ✌️
Don't forget the keyboardist in this video, Dave Rowberry.
I love ittt I can finally see them clearly in good resolution 💞🐾🎶
That was great!
@@StephanieJeanne Yeah!
Right after Alan Price left the group. Fantastic performance from the band!
What a band! Imagine what they could have done without Egos.
Ain't nothin' without ego. :)
Imagine what they could have done without manager Mike Jeffries who stole all their money in an overseas bank account. he got his karma when a he died in a plane crash years later.
everyone has an ego,,,in fact you are showing YOUR ego here by making a comment that assumes something you wish others to believe
60's were so magical. Great Britain bring so many great bands and Animals were in the top 10.
The Animals were a great band. I never tire of listening to their music.
most likely organist Dave Rowberry's initial gig on American television. i always liked him more than Alan Price. I saw them a year after this show opening for Herman's Hermits and by that time drummer John Steele had left and Barry jenkins took over the drum stool. Right here was their best lineup.
Cool 😎 I especially liked that they were live! 💥💜
It's great, for sure. Cheers! ✌️
YESSSS I'VE WANTED TO SEE THIS ONE IN HIGH QUALITY FOR THE LONGEST TIME!!! 🥹🐾✨️ Wonderful footage, featuring Dave Rowberry on the keyboard, too!!
My all-time favorite group from that era! Eric was amazing! My kind of singing voice!
Also list their cover of John Lee Hooker's 'Boom Boom'. This Ed Sullivan Show performance of 'Bright Lights, Big City' was what this original band was all about(Alan Price had left the band on organ and replaced by Dave Rowberry) This was still a great Animals line-up, but after Chas Chandler left and found Hendrix and produced and managed him, the Animals started to loose some of the magic that wore off, but it was Burton's amazing vocals that top their sound. Most people take the Beatles and the Stones, I take the Animals and the Yardbirds. The Animals fifth album Animalism from 1966, a very underestimated album indeed. From songs from Sammy Cooke and B.B. King to Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf(don't know which version of Smokestack Lightin' I like better, this one by the Animals or the Yardbirds version from '63 with Clapton) and a song by Donovan, Hey Gyp great little song and two new songs written by Frank Zappa, an album not to be passed by on. Those were great days of music from great bands. 🎸🎤🎸🥁🎹
Absolutely fabulous group and fantastic singer Eric, have many of records
Wonder what they thought of the coy, dopey backdrop. In any case, amazing performance! And on the freaking Ed Sullivan Show!
Great voice!
Thanks and Happy Easter 🎉 for this “The Animals” video! One thing is for sure a soft fuzzy bunny will not be pictured when hearing the band…😂!
Have a great day!
LOVE the Animals!!!!!
This was from May 1965, the same month original keyboardist Alan Price left the Animals. You can see his replacement in this clip, the late Dave Rowberry. Alan quit on the 5th, this clip aired on the 30th.
Great version of Jimmy Reid's Bright Lights, Big City
You had all these great songs & blues men but it took the Brit bands to show you what you were missing - crazy
OK, this is close...but you STILL haven't uploaded their amazing 1966 performance of Don't Bring Me Down! PLEASE put that one out ASAP.
Yeah, they did put it, but it was a very short extract :(
❤ Eric Burdon até hoje fazendo muito sucesso
Fua esto será epico
fantastic
We’ll see you there
They had no idea what was waiting for them in just 1 more year. The hippie generation.
Awesome music drug's sex.
and the "NEW" Animals rode the wave with Sky Pilot, When I was Young, San Francisco Nights etc.
It's Perfect
Sensacional!
Them some kool cats!
💚
Such a great band!!!
legendary style of their own
Singing a soulful gypsy tune and still looking tough as nails. Amazing.
haha yeah! i love the high quality video :))
The song "house of the rising sun" is legendary
Amazing! never see that! can I use this video for my Eric Burdon evolution?
Weather Ed Sullivan liked them or not he was savvy enough to know where the money and good ratings were
Ed was a cool human who gave so many people a break.❤
The only better MC was Ronald Reagan,
when he was working at the Apollo Theatre in NYC.
Ed looks like he's gonna pass a stone.
Ed is one of the most naturally awkward and least charistmatic people I've ever seen. It's insane how he got to host a primetime national television show
Absolutely great! Sound was good except for a lack of bass. Band was loose and cooking with gas.
Eric Burdon ❤
Alan Price was gone by then.
yeah , he took all the royalty money for himself for the re -working of House of the Rising Sun. It was in the public domain an old folk song
Alan Price didn't screw his band mates over the "House of the Rising Sun" royalties, their manager Michael Jeffrey did. The naive Animals went along with it, hoping that I'll be fixed later, but within the passage of time, unfortunately, Alan truly began to believe his own solo credit on that recording.
Los animales no son objetos,
Sounds a bit like the Stones...loads of Blues influence, great band
Jagger did not begin to compare with Burden
Everything about this upload is perfect EXCEPT it's 16x9 with black bars left and right. Can these uploads be 4x3 from now on thanks. [Because it looks amazing on a CRT]
This is 4:3
@@jody8526937 Not really, see the slight grey on the sides? Technically it's a 4x3 image RENDERED in 16x9. No good for a 4x3 screen. As stated BLACK BARS left and right. All or almost all previous Ed Sullivan uploads are 4x3 [no edges].
1:41
Was Alan Price replaced on organ? Doesn't look like him.
Yes, replaced by Dave Rowberry in early May 1965. This was most likely Dave's television debut with the Animals.
Not my taste. I prefer the Blues tune original by Jimmy Reed.
You have no sense of music history🙁
@baldey67 Haha! I have no sense of music history?! Playing music is what I do for a living! Oldies and Blues are, in particular, my favorites. I also teach kids about Blues through a program called Blues In The Schools Program. Let me give you a history lesson since I have no sense of music history.
This song, "Bright Lights, Big City," was originally recorded by the Blues artist Jimmy Reed in 1961. In 1965, it was released by the group the Animals. Blues had a major impact on the creation and development of Rock and Roll. A lot of the English groups who became part of the British invasion started out as either Blues bands or had been influenced strongly by the Blues. A lot of Bristish Rock bands such as the Rolling Stones were avid Blues fans.
Now, let's get back to my comment. My comment was strictly from an opinion point of view. It wasn't from the view of historic significance. So before you tell me I have no sense of music history, think twice.
The Animals' version is ace, I'd say. They did a version of it for their second American album The Animals on Tour, later released a few months later on their second British LP Animal Tracks.
It’s the Ed Sullivan show hearing the animal brings back good memories it was the era of the Vietnamese war the hippie movement and the good old days of smoking grass snd tripping out on L s d for all of you young wipper snaps that would be acid here’s to the good old days love em
