Your recommendation of painting the boards as you go is spot on. It helps in two ways, one you are assured of complete coverage and two you don't have to load your brush so heavy that you end up will places in the gaps that are filled in with paint.
Wow! I love the way you explained everything, from a woman's point of view! I have been to the point of begging for carpenters to install tongue and groove in my farmhouse/cabin style home in the mountains. It's like pulling teeth!! But, I started thinking that I could do something to give that country/mountain look to my kitchen and bath, and you! have helped me decide. Yep, shiplap!! thank you and I have just subscribed!! Thanks!!
Jenna, you are an inspiration to all novice DIY people. Thank you for being direct, to the point, a little silly (like it), and just yourself. And also thank you for not wearing some outfit that just degrades you and takes away from your diy talent, but instead, dressing the part. Very nice video and well done.
Excellent! I was searching about the faux shiplap for our bedroom. You makes my life much easier and cheaper. Your decorating was so beautiful. Thank you!
I love this!! I've been going back and forth on peel-and-stick shiplap wallpaper because of the expense of the tongue & groove boards, and...am so thrilled to find this tutorial! I can now actually make my dream wall affordably because of you! Thanks, Jenna!
Thank you, Jenna Sue, for a wonderful tutorial! It was direct and to the point, easy to follow and cheerful. You've helped me make a decision about how to shiplap my living room.
I was looking for a budget friendly project that looked great so that I could finally complete my bathroom rehab. I'VE FOUND IT!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!😀😀 Subscribed
So after watching your vid, I shiplapped the wall over my fireplace today and it came out amazing! The nickel spacing was perfect! I wanted 4” boards and HD wouldn’t cut them that narrow for me, so had to do that myself, but no biggie! Fun project. Thank you so much!
If they would cut it to 8in. like Jenna did, it would have been a lot easier for you to cut them in half than to struggle with a full 4ft by 8ft sheet.
aww my Jenna Sue. I'm so glad ur doing great in life! I love u and miss u. u look gorgeous, and so happy! my mom just told me u were on UA-cam so I had to find u. I am extremely proud of u. I knew u would always do something great with ur life. xoxo
Jenna you made it look very easy. I have a wall that is already paneled but had some renters paint and I hate the wall now. And since I am moving back into the house I will do the ship lap like you have on top of the paneling. Thanks again.
You explained everything well, gr8 job and gr8 look!!Your shower looks amazing!! One tip to anyone doing this, apply construction adhesive to the back of the shiplap!
Love this tutorial! I’m going to tackle a powder room that has horrid wallpaper on the walls. I love that I don’t have to deal with the wall paper! I can just go right over it with the boards. This is a heaven sent solution!
Just found your video and it was amazing and easy to follow. Now I’m encouraged to try and do it . I’ve been wanted to do this for a while now. Thanks to you I will give it a try and hope for the best. I’ve liked and subscribed.
I love the easy way you explain everything! Hopefully my walls will be smooth😬😬I’m a tools gal and love to have them all even if I don’t use them often!👍
Wonderful job! I will get around to trying this.. I LOVE that short handled paint brush, I buy 2 at a time cause I know whoever comes to help is going to want mine! LOL, it's happened... So talented!! Keep up the good work, everyone will notice in time.
Due to cost difference we decided to use this method over a 3/4 inch overlap board, after installation we felt like we did not get a true ship lap look but were ok with it due to the money saved. After painting it with a latex paint the plywood warped due to the water content of the paint. In the end we were so dissatisfied we ripped it out and went back with a ship lap board. You may want to prime with an oil base primmer before installation to avoid warping.
Shiplap is actually N affordabL option... Thanks 4 the inspiration! N now that I've observD sum othR tutorials on Shiplap DIYs...I 2 agree that paintN in between is a great tip! Thanks, Lauri
Awesome! You got me thinking about trying this in one of my bathrooms. BOTH have to be remodeled ugh! BTW, great choice in tools, I use the same sander, mitre saw, jigsaw, and even paint brush you showed in the vid lol
love this!! so well done! during the whole tutuorial i was trying to think of who you remind me of. it hit me right at the end-mila kunis. i think it's your eyes.
Jenna, great job. If I use the same 1/4 8inch by 8ft vertically, and have to use another 1.5 ft per board, to have two boards looks like 1, will caulk and paint make is seamless or unnoticeable. Going for unnoticeable
Instead of starting from the bottom. Can you start from the top and work your way down? So that way all your boards are the same size. And when u get to the bottom board you rip it and it won’t be noticeable. Cuz most likely you’ll have a base molding. Sorry if this question sounds dumb.
Love this! Im gonna do it! What if the wall is larger than 8ft? Could i just caulk it and sand and paint and make it blend to look good? My wall is 11ft long.
Great Video... ... and Great Timing... I am "Flipping" another RV.. and was trying to think of what I need to do the walls but keep it "Light" (because of weight in the RV... This is a great idea.. but is that Balsa wood? Thanks for sharing this video.
Perfect tutorial ! Thanks for sharing! So hopeful and I can't wait to try it on our new house we are moving into! 💗 Can't wait to see more tutorials you make!
Shouldn't you start at the top and level it out since ceilings are never square? And then if you have to shave a board it's hidden by baseboards? Love the wine tidbit btw!
I love the plank/shiplap look you did and you're silly spirit made video entertaining :) I spyed bedroom w beams in backdrop ... can you give info where they're from and if faux ? Looking for a project trying to decide btwn faux or solid beam :))
great video that includes a couple points not in other videos on topic: specifically painting the top edge as you go and checking level at regular times. Question: what about scenario where you want to the the faux shiplap on textured wall? If you use the "two quarter" separation, I'm concerned you will see "hints" of the texture surfaces between Shiplap boards. what's your suggestion? I could get out the gallon of joint compound and feather the entire surface but that is B-O-R-I-N-G. thanks!
Aloha...I was wondering since this was done in a bathroom if any type of barrier needed to be added to prevent mold or warping of the wood. The bathroom I want to install it in does not have a window but it does have a fan. Thanks for the input!
Would this be an issue in a 2 piece powder room? There is just a sink and a toilet. No shower or bath. Seems humidity would not be an issue in that environment.
Jenna! Thanks for this tutorial. I'm about to put shiplap in my tiny house and am wondering about plywood vs. hardboard :) Will hardboard have a frayed edge when ripped down to 8" strips? Can the edges be sanded like plywood? Thanks so much!
Definitely find the studs, if you later hang anything on a plank thats nailed to drywall, you are asking for issues. Yes, most wall treatments will go through the plank into the drywall itself, but it's best practice to not risk structural integrity.

Literally the cleanest tutorial. Thank you for simplifying this process.
not true she said Home Depot would ripped plywood at the right length .. then don't

Well done, Jenna! I’ve been begging my hubby for years to do this. Now I can do it myself! Thank you!🌷🌷🌷
Thank you, Jenna Sue, for a wonderful tutorial! It was direct and to the point, easy to follow and cheerful. You've helped me make a decision about how to shiplap my living room.
If you made a video about crocheting, I'd watch it all day!
I was looking for a budget friendly project that looked great so that I could finally complete my bathroom rehab. I'VE FOUND IT!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!😀😀 Subscribed
Love this! Just did a tongue and grove ship lap wall, but will be using this technique in our bedroom... So much easier! Keep the tutorials coming!

Love you girl! Hope you're doing amazing
WOW, Rob Bobcat you need to get laid or something. I guess reconnecting with friends makes you a bitch. What a DOUCHE.
We used this and loved it! It really works and couldn’t be easier.
Great idea to paint in between boards! Then you don't have to work so hard to get the paint in there. Great video, keep it up!
Or you can paint before you install.
@@forthebeez that was my thought too.. i thought you could prime the planks before install.
Jenna you made it look very easy. I have a wall that is already paneled but had some renters paint and I hate the wall now. And since I am moving back into the house I will do the ship lap like you have on top of the paneling. Thanks again.
I'm very impressed. Thank you so much for the idea. And thank you so much for sticking to the topic. I've subscribed.
Wow! This is an amazing tutorial. We are remodeling our 1850's farmhouse and this is perfect!
This was great. I love that fact you say nothing is ever even!. No one else states that and I had to discover that on my own!
You explained everything well, gr8 job and gr8 look!!Your shower looks amazing!! One tip to anyone doing this, apply construction adhesive to the back of the shiplap!
I've done shiplap several times and I never thought of using ripped down plywood. That could've saved me hundreds! thanks for the tips!
I did exactly what she states with her instructions and it came out awesome. Thank you !!!
Looks really good! The shiplap isn’t bad either!
Love this tutorial! I’m going to tackle a powder room that has horrid wallpaper on the walls. I love that I don’t have to deal with the wall paper! I can just go right over it with the boards. This is a heaven sent solution!
Thank you for getting STRAIGHT TO IT. You have a subscriber out of me just bc of that! ❤️
Just found your video and it was amazing and easy to follow. Now I’m encouraged to try and do it . I’ve been wanted to do this for a while now. Thanks to you I will give it a try and hope for the best. I’ve liked and subscribed.
It also looks great if you paint it a two tone color and water seal it. Awesome work!!
Great, informative, short video - Saved me quite a bit of money! Also helps to have a looker narrating 😊..
When sanding with an electric sander it helps when you put sandpaper on the sander first.
HAHA Great one!!
thank you for showing and explained like for dummies, like myself, first timer thank you
My favorite tutorial for shiplap!
Jenna, can you please do an instructional video on how to use the stud finder you are using in this video?! That would be great.
So awesome. I wanted this for my new house but the builder said it would cost too much. Forget him I'll do it myself (with your help) :)
Great budget wall decor. This would be great on a bedroom wall and cheaper than pergo! Gotta get the mouse sander - amazing.
I love the easy way you explain everything! Hopefully my walls will be smooth😬😬I’m a tools gal and love to have them all even if I don’t use them often!👍
Your project looks amazing. You are so pretty and omg you are Lauren Conrad’s twin! Greetings from CA. ☀️
Wonderful job! I will get around to trying this.. I LOVE that short handled paint brush, I buy 2 at a time cause I know whoever comes to help is going to want mine! LOL, it's happened... So talented!! Keep up the good work, everyone will notice in time.
Great tips, and really enjoyed your upbeat & funny method of teaching!
Love this idea! You are adorable and make it all look so easy!
Awesome! Thank you. Simple, straight to the point and short! Perfect

This is a really good tip. I was going to ask her about this but I don't think she is responding to questions here on the YT.
Super easy to follow directions!! Thanks J!!
I love your style girlie! Such a cute video and informative too. Nice job!
Bought 6 sheets and had Home Depot cut it for free. Ready to nail it up.
Lynn Killion - Thats so awesome that they cut it for you! I’m hoping they will cut mine ! Do I just tell them the size that I want them to be?
@@brendagonzalez7321 they did not cut ours today. said cuts under 12 inches they couldn't do
Painting between the boards as you go is a great idea! 😊👍🏽
Home made 'nickle gap' look, clever idea!
Going to be tackling this project this weekend in our half bath!!!!!!! Thanks for the tutorial!!!

Thanks for sharing this video.
Can you describe how you cut around the light switches and outlets? Did you have to bring them out so they'd be flush with the shiplap? Thanks!
Perfect tutorial ! Thanks for sharing! So hopeful and I can't wait to try it on our new house we are moving into! 💗 Can't wait to see more tutorials you make!
Very concise and informative!! Great work...
Nice Work Jenna! I'm not sure why I'm just now discovering your channel, but I just subscribed and am looking forward to following your growth.

As always, amazing! :) I think i have the courage now to do this in my entryway!
I like the huge tiles you used for the shower
This is a beautifully done tutorial, I loved loved it! Thanks so much Jenna, you rock!

Would this be an issue in a 2 piece powder room? There is just a sink and a toilet. No shower or bath. Seems humidity would not be an issue in that environment.
Jenna Sue we need to know if you used caulking only vertically or horizontally also in between every board ?!
No caulking between boards! The gap is there on purpose :)
Lovely job there Jen.
ATB,
MM
I've seen how you do this on your blog, but this is a great video! I will probably be doing this in our master bath this summer.
Jenna! Thanks for this tutorial. I'm about to put shiplap in my tiny house and am wondering about plywood vs. hardboard :) Will hardboard have a frayed edge when ripped down to 8" strips? Can the edges be sanded like plywood? Thanks so much!
Did you ever get the answer to this question?
You can sand it with a fine grit sand paper
Did a version of this. Too easy. fantastic.
This is a great video. Period. I’m impressed.
Subscribed because of this video. Great content!
I did it and it looks awesome!!!!!!!
Jenna Sue you inspire me! Thank you

Such a well done tutorial!!! And space(obviously)
Love the optional wine suggestion
I am an Arab, I do not understand what you are saying, but by watching it looks like your work is good, thank you
Excellent vido, great tips. Keep up the good work and don't let the rude comments bother you. I love to see a woman that enjoys working with tools.
Girl you should have your own show on HGTV!!
great video. I did a lot of the same for my wall. I just added it to my hearth room and it looks great for the holidays!
You’re awesome! And idk anyone has ever told you, but you look like Lauren Conrad!
