He is the legend that he is not only because of skills and being the best, also for his personality and (even being a drug addict) his ideals and principles. Just think someone with the personality of CR7, someone with more ego than him, and bring that to 80's 90's. He was someone that without internet, almost every shit he said, becamed viral, and we're talking about times with no tiktok twitter or even google. He also played for Argentina during some of the worst times in the country story, playing and winning against England after they killed a lot of young men in the war against them (this is nothing against England also, Argentina entered on that war because it was under a dictatorship and he was a fcking alcohol addict) And, I think this is maybe one of the "strongest" reasons is that Maradona grew up being extremely extremely poor, he went from the "lowest status" in society to being extremely rich and being treat as a god for a lot of Argentines and Italians (yes, there is an actually religion about Maradona, is true). For a lot of people, he is the representation of no matter how poor you are, no matter you live in the dirt, you can thriump. And he also never forgot his past (Like Messi) and until his last days, he kept building football clubs for low-income neighboors. These kind of things (that Messi knows and replicate) are to me, what makes them the best for Argentines. And Im saying that because I feel its more a generational thing. Both my parents has watched Maradona lifting the world cup in Mexico, but not me, so I cant feel the same way about Maradona, but I do understand that I have a same feeling for Messi.
