    Hello, greetings from Brazil. Excellent video! Minute 31:51 is fantastic, the texture of this Martian meteorite is incredible. The patterns look like the skin of a leopard, simply beautiful. Thank you very much for posting it. All the best to you and your family.
    Sincerely, Geovane Freitas.

      Thank you for the kind words. However, the rock featured at 31:51 is not a meteorite, let alone a Martian Meteorite. I can see where you might think it has a Shergottite-like texture, but it was actually this specific part of the rock that convinced not only our crew, but also the meteorite classifier who was present that this rock is indeed a meteorwrong. I wish I had the ability to post photos within the comments here so I could show you this rock side by side with a Martian Shergottite. Perhaps I will post something like this on our community page? We always tell our crew and many of the amateur hunters who reach out to us that the best method of using photos as a way of identifying potential meteorites is to look for the DIFFERENCES between photos of authenticated meteorites instead of looking for similarities. Sometimes our minds trick us if we are only looking for the similarities. A lot of times, we end up seeing what we are wanting or hoping to see. Anyway, hopefully this insight is helpful. Please keep watching and feeling free to comment! :)

    Great job, guys...
    I always love to dentify the various features that are typical of meteorwrongs before you guys start to identify them 😂

    • @TopherspinMeteorites

      That's awesome and such a GREAT way to learn! Sometimes we chuckle when we are watching the video submissions and hear people pointing out features like fusion crust when it is clearly not fusion crust. However, we try to be patient, kind and understanding with our viewers, at least the nice ones! ha ha... Everyone has to start somewhere. If they keep trying, while remaining open to constructive criticism, eventually there are many people who do learn how to correctly identify meteoritic features. We even have someone on our crew who used to be a little stubborn, but she was so eager to learn and has the mind of a sponge. Anything she learns, she retains and is always thirsty for more knowledge. You can imagine how excited we all were when she drove to the site of a recent meteorite fall and actually found a real meteorite. We were so proud of her. :)

    Really good video. It's nice to see that the submissions had good videos and photos. 2 looked like a rock covered in tar used to patch asphalt roads. 3 seemed close, but Chris mentioned that it could be dinosaur bone. The polished face is reminiscent of that texture. Well done, Crew!

    • @TopherspinMeteorites
      @TopherspinMeteorites  11 днів тому +1

      Thanks Bruce! Yeah, the crew and the meteorite classifier who were present during the recording of this video were all pretty sure right away that these rocks were not meteorites. Topher was pretty sure that #3 wasn't but he actually asked for more close up photos of certain features before he made a decision. As always, we never share any of our opinions before presenting to the crew. Most of the time, Topher doesn't even view the media. He is usually seeing it for the first time with you guys. But that rock had me second guessing so I asked Topher to preview the media for #3 so we would be prepared with additional media if necessary. After the crew discussed this one, we determined it wasn't a meteorite.

    • @TopherspinMeteorites
      @TopherspinMeteorites  11 днів тому +2

      I also wanted to add..... The submitter was present and VERY open to learning from the crew's feedback and accepting the answer. As you know, this isn't always the case. I think he went hunting again soon after we recorded this video and actually found a meteorite! This is exactly why we always advise that people stop spending so much time dwelling on their meteorwrong, that way they can invest their time into finding a meteorite! And that is exactly what Adam did!

    Hi, I have a rock (?) that my dad found some time ago with a metal detector. After a quick research on google (I know it's not very reliable) we came to conclusion that it might be a meteorite. It would be nice if you could give me some ways to verify that, because I don't know if I should just throw it out. Additionally could you tell me if it's alright for me to crack it open either way? Cause I'm not sure if it would be bad if it turned out to actually be a meteorite.
