I love your comment. I have only seen Springsteen live two times in my life. The first was in 1984, on the second show of his "Born in the USA" tour, in St Paul, Minnesota (this would be the night after Courtney Cox co-starred in the "Dancing in the Dark" video, at the same arena). Bruce started "The Promised Land". Somewhere in the first verse, he realized (and you could see it on the projection screens) that the crowd was singing, shouting, screaming, his lyrics back at him, LOUDER than he was singing and the band was playing. Young men, and young women, were feeling the late-teens, early-20s frustration, ambition, yearning, that this song is about, and standing on the armrests of their chairs in the arena, feeding back to him the inspiration live, that he had given them, on records, jukeboxes, and the radio: "Mister, I ain't a boy (girl); no, I'm a man (woman), and I believe in a promised land!" He got a huge smile on his face, stopped singing, and held out his microphone, for the deafening sound, the message, and the love (I think) to come back to him.
I agree with Michael. It is an energy I carry and love. Hairs stick up just thinking about the shows. Just want another and hope to be able to see him again after covid.

He has done this for YEARS.....I knew him when I was right out of high school....he comped tickets to my boyfriend at the time to see them at RUTGERS University...OMG they about tore that place down....it was awesome! He GIVES IT his ALL every show!

What I love about this song is how sonically perfect the band sounds. You can hear each instrument perfectly.
Dude! What a song! This is one of my all-time favorites. What a story behind this song! In Germany, we know - of course - "Born in the USA" and all those famous songs. But all the songs from the Darkness era were thrown away from the German radio stations. But it would've been so important for us to have such music. "The Promised Land" is such a great song, especially in this live version in Barcelona. I love how the crowd moves!
@Aisha a Sorry for being late... Well, my mother was a "Bruce Springsteen fangirl". As long as she were alive, she used to listen to The Boss. Her favorite album was "The Ghost of Tom Joad", and her favorite song was "Jersey Girl".
We used to sit together and listen to "Nebraska" and "Human Touch". And I never will forget the heartbreaking "American Skin". Last year, she passed away. We played the title track "The Ghost of Tom Joad" at her funeral. I was such a moving event.
"The Promised Land" has been my anthem, to which I have turned hundreds of times, since I first heard it 44 years ago. I will never forget how, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, in 1984, thousands of young women and young men stood on the armrests of their chairs in a hockey arena, and screamed Springsteen's lyrics back at him: "... mister, I ain't a boy (girl); no, I'm a man (woman), and I believe in a promised land!" That has helped sustain my love, and my hope, for this world.
That solo......... pure ecstasy.
This is the only song that I have requested be played at my Memorial someday when I die. I LOVE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN'S SONGS

The joy in all of their faces to be performing again...is just touching. The "other band" was great...very tight...But it isn't about being "tight"...it is about being right. And E street is as right as it gets.

This band played their hearts out every song every goddamn performance. Really quite amazing.
I always expect to overplay this song, but then whenever I put it on it rattles my heart as if I'm hearing it for the first time. Especially as a modern day teenager, this song makes me feel reckless, and that something big is waiting to happen.
I know that feeling, that opening drum, the harmonica, it can never get tired

This is my favorite Springsteen song. It's both an angry and spirituality positive song. It moves me like no other song ever has. Truly great songwriting, a work of art. That's why he's the BOSS!

One of the best things that ever happened to me was when my dad brought home the We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions album in 2006. 13 years and 11 Bruce Springsteen shows later, i have never grown tired of this man's music, and I never will

If you have a General Admission (floor) ticket and arrive about 4:00 for the "7:30" show, that begins at 8:20, you can be in the lottery to make it into The Pit, the area directly in front of the page. I made it in 2009 in Greenville, SC, and was standing against the runway below the stage in front of Clarence. Near the end of Promised Land, Bruce held the mic down to me to sing, "La, la la, la la, la la, la la, la la, la la la la la." This is probably a comment on the shallow, shell-of-a-life, I've led, but singing those la la las was one of the highlights.

Roy Causton Roy, we both know that Bruce is a great person; not only our greatest musician, songwriter/performer, but a big part of our national (or North American) conscience. I’m just *lucky* to be his contemporary and to have had the opportunity to share the same time and space with him for three or so hours over 60 times, beginning in 1978.

Now, those who have seen him 2.0 times, or more, per year, over a 40 or more year span do have a problem. They need to enter Springsteen detox, and/ or a 12-step program, the first of which is, obviously, to admit that Bruce Springsteen has taken over your life to the point that you need help from a higher power to shake his influence.
But me and 1.6? Just another average fan who recognizes that a Bruce Springsteen concert in one of life’s grandest experiences.
