    Too bad most exercise videos don't stress proper form and injury prevention. They just list out a bunch if exercises and say do this and that to build this and that. This is a great video.

    The UK’s Radio 1 DJs were doing 3 mins of ‘Burpees’ and then immediately coming back on air. Most amusing radio, as they were completely knackered, and could barely speak. I didn’t know what a ‘burpee’ was, and Mr. Funk has not only explained it, but demonstrated how to do it correctly to avoid common injuries. Nice bit of tuition video. Top marks, Mr. Funk.

    Great video. I love the fact that you demonstrate the burpee without the need to do a jump. It's okay to not jump - jumping adds stress to the joints - and for people like myself with rheumatic issues, it heightens the risk of injury. I can do these without the jumps and it works great.

    • @TRUTH-4U-NOW
      @TRUTH-4U-NOW Рік тому

      only one problem, jumping is the biggest part of the burpee. Burpees without jumping is just standing up between push ups.
      I had rheumatism, especially in the knees, but since I started running (3k /day) doing squats and jumping burpees, no more knee pain.
      Every one is different.

    I also have to add that I HATE Crossfit style burpees. They lean over, immediately drop their chest to the ground with hips touching the floor, and then "bow and snake" up. When I do 10 sets of 10 for 100 burpees, my legs and upper body are on FIRE. I do a squat, kick back into a full push-up position, and do an actual push-up on every rep. Just like I don't do "kip-up" pull-ups either. But when I do 100 actual burpes in 13-15 minutes I feel more beat down than with 45-60 minute full body high intensity workouts. Crazy!

    • @lokeey782
      @lokeey782 8 років тому +1

      Burpees are actually a variation of an 8-Count Body Builder, which requires a full push-up as you are doing. That snake crap is what I've never understood.

    • @LovelyDollz1
      @LovelyDollz1 7 років тому

      Ryan Deffley doesn't it hurt your shoulders and back when touching the floor during the push up part?! I see a lot of people doing it and always thought it was the wrong way to do a burpee.

    For those of you that do CrossFit, please ensure you focus on form over speed. I’ve been doing CrossFit for many years and during AMRAPS, I find people more often than not go as fast as possible with garbage form. Your coaches should be intervening but those of you that do it at home,...proper technique is crucial!!!! Thanks for the video my friend.

      Just starting! I'm going to follow this fitness challenge. 20 . pushups, 20 burpees, 20 crunches & 20 squats for five days. Then the next week increase by 10 and every week thereafter till you reach 100.

    • @roddenby
      @roddenby 10 років тому +3

      Tanya Francis That sounds like a great fitness challenge. I think you will get great benefit from your workout. With a burpee you get all the benefit of pushups, crunches and squats plus cardio in one movement. So if you don't feel like a big work out you can just burpee. Thats why I love this exercise.

    Thank you for helping me get the burpees going. This technique works great for me. I am not as young as I used to be-getting older, heavier, all that-so getting the effective intensity of activity without overuse injuries has been a real problem. Wearing wrist wraps and workout gloves to protect my hands and wrists, I modified the burpee to exclude the jump because I pulled a muscle in my inner thigh the first set, but I didn't give up. Working around that I am definitely seeing results. the perfect intensity to tone muscles, get the heart pounding, open the airways and burn fat. I was able to do 30 burpees every day the second week. I doubled the burpees by doing the laddering routine with brief rest intervals 1 rep, 2 reps, 3 reps, etc., up the ladder, then decreasing the number of reps going down the ladder. I'm not sure my math is very good, but it is a great workout! The burpees don't require expensive equipment or much room. Thanks again, Mr.Roberts for helping me succeed on my personal health and fitness crusade.

    I am no where near this level yet (just beginning and am all soft and sad), but I just wanted to say that I love this breakdown with a focus on safety, using actual musculoskeletal jargon, and not making me, the viewer, feel like a total 'tard. Watching this, you make me feel like I can almost do this...some day! Very professional and kind!

    Thank you, it helps me to have an exercise broken down into to parts like this. To see where I need improvement is key for growth. I read a quote yesterday that said “exercise is a celebration for what the body is capable of not something you do because u ate too much”

    I love to do burpees, but I'm not able to do a push up properly :(.

    • @whatitdoes
      @whatitdoes 10 років тому +2

      you can always rest your knee on the ground and keep your upper body in a neutral position until you build enough strength in upper body and core. then you can make the legs straight.

    • @michaelthan6467
      @michaelthan6467 7 років тому

      Actually you don't need to be able to do a full push up properly to be able to enjoy the benefits of the burpee. You can worm or peel yourself off the ground with enough momentum to bring your feet under you

      An actual burpee is without the pushup. The push up added is a burpee vatiation.

    • @thomasbarreca6305

      I believe that what you're describing, a burpee without the pushup, is commonly called a squat thrust.

    • @gretashapiro4118
      @gretashapiro4118 6 років тому

      Do them separately. The burpee doesn't have to include the push up or hop

    Awesome. It is very discouraging for a middle aged person trying to get back in shape when they keep injuring themselves and the pain makes sitting down to focus on work and school difficult. I now feel I can get after it while being less likely to injure myself. Thanks!

What you are showing looks right and makes sense. This is the best video on UA-cam on how to properly perform a burpee!

    Iron Wolf does his burpees in a different way that I can't seem to do without hurting my lower back so I do that squat at the beginning like you said in this vid, and now i have confirmation it's good tech!

    • @talemire258
      @talemire258 3 роки тому

      I watch Iron Wolf too, but I still do my burpee this way (squat-pump-jump). One thing I've incorporated from him though is his 6 count which helps with cadence and breathing.

      @@talemire258 yeh I count too, weirdly meditative when you do the counting and I agree it helps with breathing. Amazing what doing regular burpees can do...love them now haha.

    Excellent, good going! Keeping the arms close instead of having elbows pointed outwards is a challenge for beginners, which is why it's a good idea to practice slowly when doing burpees for the first time. Thanks, very helpful!

    Good tips... they'll help me correct my burpee form. Appreciate the time you took to do this vid. One suggestion: use a lapel mic with a windscreen when recording outdoors. The lapel mic will keep your voice volume consistent as you move closer or farther from your camera, and the windscreen will prevent having the wind gusts overpower your voice.
