But also on removing the roots that cause these circumstances

Lol, I can't even get a single soul away from WhatsApp. So I'm still using it. I don't want to, but it's basically the only option.
Some Folks use Telegram, at least additionally. Which is propably better then whatsapp, but still pretty meh. Tough I think most contacts I got there are only on that plattform because of those Channels.
Nobody will go to Signal. Nobody will go to Threema. Or any Messenger really. Some maybe have Facebook Messenger, but that's pretty much the worst option out of all.

Signal is still one of the best alternatives that balances usability and privacy. You don't have to opt into MobileCoin use. The Hated One is a classic click baiter.
The upkeep of such a huge service doesn't come free. At some point they were bound to do something to make money to keep up their service. They can't rely on donations forever.
I want Rob Braxman's take on this as well.
So sad to see this but grateful that someone is watching so closely. I got my core group of friends to Signal, which was an epic struggle, and see little hope of getting them to go anywhere else if I say it was all for nothing. Money wins. Always.
Money ruins things..
But Foss and decentralization seems to be a big step in getting rid of this..

Matrix is nice, but more complex, that makes it harder to convince "normal" people to switch.
@@1Hippo I think Matrix is awesome but like you said, it's a bit too involving for my normies.
As someone who used GrapheneOS for 4 months, I don't think privacy through FOSS alone is realistic anymore. If FOSS was used by my workplace and my school then it would be easy to go 100% FOSS everywhere, but that's just not how it is.
I really think legislation is the only solution at this point. GDPR wasn't strict enough, but it was a good first step.
When things become too popular, this is the end result. I felt this was coming for years about signal..
I mean, business-wise, hosting 100.000 users is almost okay server-wise for messaging. Hosting a billion users can become very quickly unsustainable especially when you have voicecall and videocall. I understand this business wise, and it is not about greed so much as it is about app maintenance and sustainability. But it's a sad truth.
We either have to invent a new sustainable FOSS Open source practice for all of us, or we'll rot with proprietary software.
Matrix seems to be going for that, but it seems like it's kinda like Email servers. Email servers are technically .... centralized. A server needs to be hosted, administrated and managed by someone and somewhere. So the whole "decentralization" thing is kinda a myth, but also hides a small truth because not all messages are stored in one single server of one single organization.
And emails still require a server to send the message on, point is you can't have an email if you're not registered on someone's server (gmail server, yahoo server etc.). So someone still has your data in emails and Google still has good amount of access to my gmail account's data.
I still dont fully understand how Matrix works, but if its like emails, it's not too promising for me.

AND NOW THIS! 😡
its still good for now, they seem to be backing off mobilcoin and the source code has been updated. still very sketchy owner for trying it but dont rush to switch
I get the ‘the vibes’ are not encouraging, but using Signal is still way way more privacy friendly than WhatsApp. The danger with a clickbaite title like this is that people won’t bother to move away from WhatsApp in the first place. That’s much worse than a potential flaw in MobileCoin which very few users will actually use.
Completely agree
So what the Signal team is doing behind the scenes should just be ignored so people don't use WhatsApp??? Use Matrix ffs! (You heard the parts about the coins already is mined and that private persons can only invest 5k but big companies can buy essentially without limit.. What does that tell you?)
@@user-pf2rt3fz3j A messenger app's usefulness is determined by how many other people are using it. In my part of the world WhatsApp is really dominant, but Signal is starting to get some foothold. If Signal wants to be a credible alternative then people will be looking for voice and video calling capabilities. That is expensive, so I can see the conundrum for the company on how to fund this. I still think weaning people off WhatsApp is more important and therefore think the thumbnail saying "delete Signal" is unhelpful. BTW I have not heard of Matrix and cannot find it in my phone's app store

Hearing this news frustrates me. I've gone ahead and installed Element / Matrix on my phone; I hope I can put it to good use. keep up the good work
If you want serious privacy you'll have to fight for it diligently and consistently. For android phones you can decouple from google by using custom open source android os' like LineageOS or GrapheneOS (the latter has a heavy emphasis on privacy). For the desktop computer QubesOS is an insane linux distribution that has bulletproof privacy and security by isolating software with virtual machines - makes windows look like spyware. But the price to pay for all of that is high because you need to be/become a power user to handle them and you will be plagued with app compatibility issues. You can't really game on a qubesos system for example.
Internet: pros < cons
Going caveman is they way to skip this evil world

@not hing Element is great as well but Signal was really the easy open source solution. Why does the CEO have to be so greedy and make stupid decisions?
@not hing You do know that Matrix doesn't protect your metadata?
@@pipeliner8969 Again he is really frustrated at mobilecoin involvement in this crap , that's true they have not educated users enough before introducing it
Now calling it greed isn't true , These projects do need funding and they are doing so because they will get some of the money you transact (0.04Mob which might change setting it around to 0.02 USD ) . They still would have to show this under SEC filing and we would know how much money they are getting.
Question is what do I as a user have sacrificed with this feature? It has been advertised as Signal just killed itself , you have to manually enable payment if you want and if you don't want it , it doesn't exists for you. So what do i as a person lose ? Nothing .
People are fueling into hype , let them develop it and then we see what their goal is , they also plan to introduce other coins , there's lot of development to happen , meanwhile if you think MOB is good enough do your transactions in it.

Like imagine an evedropped attempting to intercept the communication within a public room, all he has to do is join the room and request the encryption key of each user.
However this maybe fixed if you have an interface telling you who requested the keys and wether allow him to read the messages you sent, or make it automated like a whitelist, blacklist.
All these platforms are literally useless if you cannot get anybody that you actually need to message to use them. It’s a damn shame

This sure is a stab in the back by Signal. Now more than ever we need a secure messaging platform that doesn't compromise privacy for profit.
They don't do that. To date Signal is still as secure as it was. The MobileCoin thing is just a feature that you have to intentionally activate to use and it does not compromise your privacy.
@@swake0019 i was not surprice at all till is not longer open source. The need of hide something its obvious.
Too bad! I thought Signal was our privacy saviour. Alas! So where to now?!
Is there going to be a video explaining matrix?
*When you realize almost all your government communication is done on Signal :D :D :D :D :D*
I watched this right after his other vid where he recommended Signal...
Signal server was updated 14 days ago
I like the idea of using crypto to finance your app, so it's even sadder to hear that one of the first FOSS apps that tried such a monetization failed this badly.
Imagine signal would finally allow decentralized servers. Their official servers would also decentralize, meaning they'd finally get servers in the EU etc. but they'd allow for users to host their own and add them, just like they did with proxies.
Now imagine those servers would also handle transactions via their crypto currency, or even better, essentially mine the crypto currency per message or megabyte data they transfer. This way the official Signal servers could still get most of the funding, but there'd even be a financial incentive for people to host servers. Maybe even with a penalty for downtime / a multiplier for more consecutive online days. Signal would ensure their funding for continuous development whilst being a truly scalable system that does not have to fear regulation by financial systems.
so sad, money, money, money..
I guess this means Signal for now but I will waiting for new updates to see how they manage this situation
Ahhaahhaa! Everybody is a scum, everybody falls to greed, eventually. Ahahahahah!
I'd be interested if you could do a video about matrix and explain it's pros and cons:) especially if you could do a side-by-side comparison between it and signal. Also is there any chance you could do a video on the pros and cons of apple's imessage? I'm not sure if it has any privacy/security problems other than it being proprietary. But if there are I think it would be helpful if you made a video on it that's "normie" friendly since I assume most people don't see any reason to switch from it to apps like signal and therefore it's probably harder to get our IOS friends and family to switch.
We need a better way to chat where no one connects to a server in order to chat
ok then you must do a video on updated list of best apps that you think will serve the purposes please.
Crypto is the digital version of COVID.
Unlike in real life, I don't need to wead a mask to protect myself tho.
I guess we all wondered how his face looked underneath the mask.
Now we now.
His face is a radiant heater.
Thanks for this.
@The Hated One My friends and family uses Whatsapp and Telegram. I tried to convince them to try signal but all of them call me paranoid. So which should i use? Telegram or Whatsapp??
Telegram. No facebook presence already makes it better.
Signal is the most secure messenger out of all of them. Telegram is not even using end-to-end encryption by default and WhatsApp is a data mining operation tracking all of your metadata. Signal is still far more superior. However, for the long term and to escape centralization, Matrix is a much more sustainable option.
@@TheHatedOne you better do a video about that
@@TheHatedOne Is there a way to remove metadata if i need to use whatsapp?
