Hey Galen, I'm looking to start building websites with wordpress. Do you think it's a good idea or should I switch to webflow or squarespace?

That's totally up to you! There's no right or wrong way to start a web design business. It comes down to which platform you're the most comfortable with and which one you enjoy the most.

Wait, I don't have to create a full website in Squarespace for my portfolio??? I had no idea!!! I have been stressing myself out around this. I have made plenty of website mockups in AdobeXD & in Figma, and I have deleted so many. SMH. Thank you so very much for this, I am very grateful. (My apolgies if this is a duplicate comment, my screen froze.)

Definitely use the mockups you design as part of your portfolio, but it's ideal if you build them out into actual websites to show that you can create a functioning version of the mockup (unless you plan to just do the design and have clients work with a separate developer to build out your designs). I do think having your own website to display your work is important too! That way you have somewhere to send potential clients from your social media channels so they can fill out your contact form. It doesn't have to be perfect to start, just something simple to display your work and give potential clients the option to contact you. Hope that helps!

How do you keep your mock-up website and use it as a template if the trial for that website ends?

Are you a circle member? If not, I would join. Then you get 6 month trials. If it's a demo site you should also be able to extend the trial by reaching out to support. Hope that helps!

What platform do you use to create the actual website?

This is a great question! I build most websites on either Showit or Squarespace. Here's a video I made comparing the two options: ua-cam.com/video/t38_kwRNIMI/v-deo.html
