I have loved this song since I first heard it in the 1980s. I stumbled upon new depths of meaning on holiday in the Netherlands last year. We were cycling along the river Waal just downstream from the city of Nijmegen where there had been fierce fighting in 1944 in the attempt to cross the Waal and relieve British paras trapped on the Rhine at Arnhem some 10 miles north. We came across a memorial on the riverbank to 49 men of the US 82nd Airborne who had died in what war historians have described as a semi-suicidal opposed daylight crossing. It was successful, but at great cost. Ultimately of course it was a futile waste of life, as they could not then force a way through to Arnhem. They had died fighting for their brothers in arms just 10 miles away. As we stood at the memorial an young Dutchman came by and shared our moments of respect. He was two generations removed from that conflict but said he stopped by regularly to honour the men who died to liberate his city and country. As we chatted I noticed a small tribute which someone had placed at the foot of the memorial stone. It was a photo and some memorabilia in memory of a young soldier, 26 years old, who had died in Afghanistan in 2009. Next to his photo was a verse from "Brothers in Arms". I assumed he was also US Airborne and his loved ones had wanted to mark the link with his regiment's past. But when I got home I did some research and discovered that he was corporal Kevin van de Rijdt of the Dutch special forces who had been killed by the Taliban in September 2009. Like the men at Nijmegen, he had been far from home, fighting with his brothers in arms. Someone - parent, partner, or fellow soldier had wanted to make the connections in time and space. I find this very moving and can't now listen to that song without visualising the Waal memorial and Kevin's picture. The cause may be noble and the soldiers heroic but the human cost is tragic. For me, Knopfler has absolutely nailed the war song for all time. Thank you.

Such a beautiful sad song. War is sick and vile. It brings out a beauty and sadness of man's losses but that love can be had in other ways than violence. Look at the World at War series after WWII. I recall as a kid watching just after WWII - late 1950s. We are all human beings first. Death should come last.

💫Brothers In Arms - Lyrics💫
"These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Someday you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn to be
Brothers in arms
Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I've witnessed your suffering
As the battle raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms
There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
Now the sun's gone to hell and
The moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We are fools to make war
On our brothers in arms"

Simplesmente excelente.
Uma das melhores apresentações que já vi.
For all my old fallen comrades from rhodesian war. I salute you. Thank you for your time. God bless you always. 💖💖👍👍never forgotten.
When you play this song... I come back to the 80's..and i feel like i was.
God bless you for all the amazing music you made blessed to have known you when I did not even speak English
Such a beautiful sad song. War is sick and vile. It brings out a beauty and sadness of man's losses but that love can be had in other ways than violence. Look at the World at War series after WWII. I recall as a kid watching just after WWII - late 1950s. We are all human beings first. Death should come last.
Um grande artistas com lindas canções, MK sempre impecável!
Abraços e saudações nordestinas do Brasil

Best piece of art ever made. Genius.... we love you, Mark ❤❤❤
When I was 10 years old. I was fortunate enough to listen to the alchemy album. Since then dire Straits have always been part of my life., I picked up a guitar because of this man. I’m not very good as I didn’t practice enough, but what I do know is thanks to him.
This is one of the most amazingly fantastic songs ever
everything about this performance is perfect
It brings the inner self right there where all things are right for those short moments.
Thank you for being a fabric of my memories for the last several decades. Contrary to the player from Sultans of Swing, you definitely can make it cry and sing. Everytime I see you play it brings tears to my eyes
You make me cry again, what a feeling ! One of my favorite song ! Thk for all !
