@@kateygunter6564 they actually didn't. They filed chapter 11 bankruptcy and then with the financial restructuring, closed the least profitable stores that had leases up and they've opened super stores. Overall sales and profitability increased.
You have to go for the multiple shoe sets to get them to regular Payless prices. The Bogo or Bogo half off is what makes them the prices you might expect.
I just want to thank you so much for raising awareness for St. Jude. My sister is a St. Jude baby, she was born with a hole in her heart and now has a artificial heart valve that was experimental for babies at the time. Without St. Jude my sister would not be here. Thank you for supporting such a worthy and life changing cause.

I never understood why people were so averse to cheap shoes. As long as it fits, is reasonably comfortable, isn't falling apart, and I like them, I'll wear them .

It would have been a give away, though. A male crew member may have damaged a $500 shoe, so they would have likely been in the cheap one.
