My make up bag would scream. "Don't take me ". Great video. I have a whole bunch of candle jars with bits of wax. So this would be a great way to use them up. I saw Big Family Homestead took a small unused paint can , put a roll of toilet paper in side and poured a bottle of rubbing alcohol on top. Talk about a hot fire. Good to keep in trunk of car in a BOB as they are so small. Hey I got my chickens and ducks. I uploaded a video.
I always like to see variations on this - no two people do them the same. I make about 100 at a time and keep them in one of those cheap plastic meal-freezer dishes. They never get wet that way, and the plastic dish weighs about zero. Carry on!
This is an idea I hadn't seen before. They look like they will work really well. Linda and I have all the ingredients, but I'll have to get a cheap pan and tongs, she would never let me do it in her good pans! And I wouldn't want to eat anything cooked in a pan after it had been used to make those, anyway. Thanks for the video, it will be good info to have.
They work great....I did another video showing the burn time of one of them, in the wind. Same here with the pan. I bought the pan and tongs at Goodwill lol. Not for eating for sure lol.
Nice video Joe, I make my own out of the same material but I use a candle warmer that melts the candle and I dip my pads in it, no mess, no dirtying another vessel, nice touch with the the PT jelly too. Did you time how long the burn lasted for one?
I made these! I only made about 16 because I wanted to see how well they worked. They work GREAT! I put them on a tray in the deep freeze after I dipped them in the Vaseline so when I dipped them in the wax they hardened QUICKLY. I used Twizzers to handle the cotton pads. Then I put 2 of them in my survival kit's fire pouch and the rest in a large plastic jar in my deep freeze (it gets hot in Summer where I live - and I keep my candles there as well.) Somebody gave me a whole box of old candles and I made some survival candles as well by dipping some thick string into a tall can of melted wax. They look funny but they work great.
Hey Joe! I use the same cotton pads, but just pour about a teaspoon of molten wax into the centre of each one. Pop half a dozen in a small zip-lock bag and keep 'em with my other fire starting kit. Vaseline is too messy for me, although I do have a tiny pot in my first aid kit. Nitro-cellulose from shotgun shells is a great accelerant too. (Allegedly.) I can post you some dryer lint if you like. ;o) ROFL! ATB matey.
+SarkyBugger lol on the dryer lint! I have plenty, but it's full of dog hair lol. These work great because sometimes you only need a small piece to start a fire. A single puck could start many.
What if when you dip them in the wax and have that on both sides that you would lay them on a paper towel with a little space between them and simply cut them out and squares and you could light the paper towel because the wax would leak in the air around the edge the paper towel would light easily and would feed all the way around the disc
I’ve done this and it’s cool but the problem I had was storage. In Texas it’s hot and it’s hard to place them in a good spot without them getting melted and making a mess.
Another suggestion You're laying them in a line you could lay out length of cotton string down each line and lay the wax desk on the string and paper towel and let it soak into the string and paper towel as it dried and then cut the paper towel in between the disc and that would put a wick on the disc to light it and it would give you time to place it under the bundle before it caught good
I dip in them in the yellow heat then I dip them in the dollar store crayons the crayons work like the candle does the wax seals the heat inside and I store them in old chew cans

I’ve been making fire starters with wax and soft wood shavings in a paper cup…
I like your way MUCH BETTER ❤❤

+HEN FEATHER HOMESTEAD I saw Jnull0 do that as an emergency heat source and cooking on. Great ideas!
+HEN FEATHER HOMESTEAD I'm going to check out your video now! That's a great step to take!
Gotta love those yardbirds, what kind did you get? I'm headed over to check your channel out.

Good idea small and compact.
I have seen this combination of Vaseline and wax before, only pre mixed together, then dipping the cotton pads in said mixture, then cooled.
Good video, I just learned something useful. thanks
+Leonard Roark Great ! Thank you!
I need to make some of those just to start fires in my wood burning grill! tfs!
+Ann Crum's Mini Homestead News They would be great for that. Cut them in quarters, and star 4 for the price of one lol
nice idea Joe
+chuckyar15 Thanks. They work great.
Great demo..complete and concise
Will do! Thank you!!!!
Nice job Joe, Thanks for sharing
+Yankee Liv'n Thanks !
Nice job brother!
+Survival Mindset Thanks.
Awesome idea Joe!!!!!!!
+Fireside Coffee Thanks. They work great.

+Bush Girl Karen Thanks. Heading out now to do a video testing different things with them lol.
+Bush Girl Karen I posted another video of the test burn. A full ten minutes of a good hot burn.
Try adding some plain lamp oil to the wax and leave out the Vaseline. Makes them really flammable. But very water proof.
+me me Thanks. I will try that on a batch.

That was worth a like. Thanks for the vid Joe.
+Randy Medors Thanks. I appreciate that!
great job buddy God bless
+Survival Preacher Thanks Casey! I have to test them in the rain like yours.

I melt the wax and the petroleum jelly together in the same pan and then dip them in to the mixture
What if when you dip them in the wax and have that on both sides that you would lay them on a paper towel with a little space between them and simply cut them out and squares and you could light the paper towel because the wax would leak in the air around the edge the paper towel would light easily and would feed all the way around the disc

make them with 100% wax then. its a bit finicky to get them "flufed up" but they will stay strong under heat.
That's made me hungry ..is that wrong ? 😂😂
+versatec1 I had to hide them from the dogs lol
Complimenti.100%

+bobinmissouri That's what I need! Old chew cans. I never thought of that. Great idea. I am going to try some with heet.
white man version of buffalo chips will smell better if candle scented.
+Frederick Nolan Exactly!
wish I knew how to edit videos can you do a video for us old timers lol I will be 60 in May lol on how to edit
+bobinmissouri That's a hard one. I'm still learning how to.
:-)
No reason to add Vaseline, works perfect with just wax . Save money & time .
joe your getting boring
