- Here's the second chapter of my jazz transcription videos, and this time it's about #Stephane Grappelli's ever famous solo on Minor Swing! It contains a transcription that I hope to be the most accurate you'll find on the web (with all bowings, fingerings, slides, vibratos, ghost notes), technical explanations as well as a historical perspective linking to the origins of jazz violin and gipsy ("manouche") jazz!

I am a bit obsessed with Grappelli's musical style and have been looking for good information on him for years. The books analyzing his playing are useful, but, they do not convey Grappelli's sweetness and elegance. Your playing does!
Such wonderful instructions! I love the way you have carefully given examples and co-ordinated the visuals with your explanations. The moving indicator of which note is being played on the sheet makes it easier to understand what technique you are using while playing. I have been watching this over and over.

Man, I don't even play violin, I was looking for Django's solo, but this analysis is superb. I only recently started learning music theory and seeing how the music I'm familiar with is constructed is immensely helpful. Thanks a ton for the video and the English subtitles and the transcription!

@@aitaliyahiaanis583 Une Ghost note (note "fantôme"), c'est une note qui est à peine jouée, elle n'a pas un rôle mélodique ou harmonique, mais plutôt un rôle rythmique, de façon à faire entendre la pulsation. Les Ghost notes peuvent parfois être notées par des petites notes ou par des croix.

En guitare manouche nous utilisons les accords de django Am6, Dm6, E9, Bm7-5b. Le duo Gravelle Django était tout simplement Magique.
