While you were talking about varieties I did a web search. There are over 50,000 in total and it's agreed that there are over 500 in Russia. Here in Canada there are only 150 registered varieties, 200 in the U.S. and it say 66 are grown in Australia. As for the poultry display, I found this little tidbit that might explain why they were at the convention: "poultry-manured treatments averaged 13 to 17% more annual total tuber yield and 19 to 34% more annual marketable tuber yield than the no manure control."👍

When I was a kid in my mom stored potatoes in big cardboard boxes fill with sand on the concrete floor of the garage where it was cool in the summer and cold in the winter. Stored with a little access to air like that the potatoes were in great condition until we finally ran out. If I had a root cellar, perhaps I would opt for cardboard rather than plastic or wood. (But, I don’t because I live in the desert and it’s hot and sunny. I tried to plant potatoes one spring and they weren’t very good.)

I would think that the plastic crates are lighter to transport, and easy to clean and wouldn't be as likely to harbor potato diseases as wood crates. But I guess would crates would be sturdier and last longer. So, I don't know which would be better, I assume it would depend on what kind of farming operation you had as to which would be more appropriate.

Love the Expo videos. A bit of Aussie Potato Trivia: All potatoes sold in aussie supermarket are waxy thin skinned cultivars. Good for roasting and salads, middling for mash and very poor for frying. Thicker skinned starchy potatoes only really grow well in Tassie as they prefer it cooler. Almost all of these starchy brown skinned spuds excellent for frying; are bought up by corporations like McCains and the restaurant industry for chips. So if you want to make chips at home in straya; your choices are pre-cut frozen, or soggy fries. Climates are fun.

    Hello Russell,
Thank you for this interesting video, even if the topic of "potatoes" is a bit "boring" at first glance.
I grew up in the country myself and, as a teenager, I grew apples, pears,
Picked cherries and strawberries during the holidays and after school.
I think that only a few people can imagine the work it takes to finally get the food on the table, regardless of whether it is a "simple" potato or an apple and what “technology” is behind it today.
Personally, I like to eat German-style "fried potatoes", boiled, fried and then with ham, eggs and cucumbers.
I'd love to see more videos like this about trade fairs and events of all kinds, even if they (probably) don't achieve the high number of views.
PS: Have you already been to "Atom" and to the exhibition of each one
    Regions of Russia?
Should be very interesting and still free until April...
    Greetings from Turkey

Here I've seen red, white, russet, and Yukon gold potatoes. I usually buy young red potatoes. My late dad and I planted potatoes in his backyard garden. All you need to do to grow potatoes is form a row but it must be high. Then plant the potato's eyes that have been cut from the potato. Soon sprouts will emerge. I make potato salad like my late mother did. Southern style, it's very yummy. Also, bake big russet potatoes from time to time. I'm in the southern U.S.

Hello. How to make potato salad ?

    • @rickeyjones8459
      @rickeyjones8459 8 місяців тому +1

@@joeshill3667 it's really simple. This is a Southern style. First depending on which potatoes you choose, I normally use baby red potatoes, however, white potatoes will work. Peel your potatoes, and boil them till done. While you are boiling potatoes also hard boil 2 eggs.
After the potatoes are done and the eggs remove the shell from the eggs. I've found the easiest way to remove shells from boiled eggs is to dump out the hot water. Fill the pot with boiled eggs with cold water. The eggs should peel easily.
Okay, now with a potato masher mash potatoes and eggs. Next, add yellow mustard and mayonnaise. I use Miracle Whip ( salad dressing) however mayonnaise will work. Also, add some dill pickle chips or Sweet salad cubes. Sweet salad cubes are sweet pickles that are very small cubes with some other ingredients. Blend all this together. Then you're done. There are other recipes for potato salad. This is how my mother made it. I suppose it was how her mother made it. I hope I did not confuse anyone.

We always spend time on “the floor” shopping for and looking at various dental products being advertised by the many sponsors of the convention. Everything from x-ray machines, dental chairs, dental instruments and dental materials for use in the profession. It’s endlessly fascinating to see what’s new on the horizon in the field of dentistry.
