Tripitaka is most likely dead bc he’s the reincarnation of the Golden Cicada, which was specifically cursed to ten lifetimes in the mortal realm Mr. Tang himself is one of those lifetimes
I don't think so. In the book, Tripitaka/Tang Sanzang became a Buddha at the end (although we don't know if he became a Buddha in Monkie Kid), so in the book he couldn't have had anymore lives after that, since Buddhas are not reincarnated again. ""Sage Monk," said Tathagata, "in your previous incarnation you were originally my second disciple named Master Gold Cicada. .... For such magnificent merit, you will receive a great promotion to become the Buddha of Candana Merit." JTTW, Vol 4, Chapter 100, page 381 (Anthony C. Yu translation) Also, this quote in the book says the 10 lives have already happened: "That Tang Monk is actually the incarnation of the Elder Gold Cicada, a virtuous man who has practiced austerities for ten existences" JTTW, Vol 2, Chapter 33, page 105 (Anthony C. Yu translation) This article has a good summary. It says: "the Golden Cicada was banished to live out ten pious lives in China until the time came for him to gain merit as the scripture pilgrim, thereby gaining reentry into paradise". journeytothewestresearch.com/2018/05/26/tripitaka-and-the-golden-cicada/ So, it looks like Tripitaka/Tang Sanzang was actually the tenth life (or maybe the ten lives came before him, and Tang Sanzang was the eleventh life?). If Tang Sanzang did actually become a Buddha in Monkie Kid, then Mr. Tang would have to literally Tang Sanzang, since Tang Sanzang was a celibate monk (so no kids/descendents) and wouldn't have been reincarnated again. But like I said, we don't know if Tang Sanzang ended up becoming a Buddha in Monkie Kid.

I like your theory that Ai Lie is alive. In addition, there are still details that I noticed. In 1S3S, we are shown the house of Mei, but there is not a single portrait with Ao Lie. Also in the same series, we are shown ancestors in the form of dragons. Having looked closely at all the dragons, there is no Ao Lie. 1. Black horns, which are almost not there, only white. 2. Sparse eyebrows, there are no similar ones. 3. Teeth that look up. Also, when the main characters get to the library in season 3, there is no dragon statue or horse. Just portrait. If Mei had been trapped by the ink in a place with the others, then maybe we would have realized right away that Ao Lie is dead.
Wait how can they be the exact pilgrims if Tang mentioned that he actually met pigsy's parents and we have pictures as proof? Pigsy also mentions that his grandmother was present in his current noodle shop but I doubt that would've happened like +500 years
Honestly, I say it frankly. Mai, the dragon horse girl, is one of the best characters that I have seen in the program, but I strongly noticed that she has a separate story from the stories of other characters in the program other than NMK is the hero of the program, but Mai is considered an important main character in the program. One of the strangest stories, I did not understand well
That's definitely a possibility! However, right now, multiple people are trapped in the piece of Scroll that Azure has possession of (Red Son, DBK, Princess Iron Fan, and some random Celestial Warriors). And I doubt that the main characters are going to individually free every single one of them - they are probably going to get possession of the Scroll and do some sort of spell that automatically frees everyone in it. And that would include Ao Lie, if he's trapped in there 👀
Half a year later, there was a desire to recall all the theories and return to this video. And I remembered my post. I still won't stop obsessing that Ao Lie is not visible at all. 1. (A Hero Is Born). There was a moment when all the pilgrims introduced themselves to MK, there was no Ao Lie itself. 2. (S3E5). With amnesia, Sun Wukong mentioned/remembered everyone except Ao Lie. 3.(S26E). Mei holds a package from the game in her hand, all the pilgrims are depicted there, except Ao Lie. I also wrote here that it is not on the statues either. He is intentionally not given screen time or is so underestimated...
I am going to hold onto every single bit of fricking hope that he will have more screen time in season 5 and is still alive because if he isn't. I'm going to fricking cry my eyes out in the worst way ever seen. (I watched Lego monkey kid bc of one edit of Ao lie, I watched the entire show in like 3 days and I realized I already loved the other characters and the story itself asides from Ao lie being the main reason I watched it)
I really hope Ao Lie is alive. Like, he's so cool! What bothers me is that there is a scene where the spirits of the pilgrims appear to comfort Wukong, including Ao Lie, which leaves me in doubt about whether he is alive or not. If he really died, at least explain how, as we will probably have more of the samadhi fire in the fifth season. But if he really died, I will cry a lot.
Hi, i thought of this after reading a fan story of what could have happened had Wukong confronted Ao lie in the ink scroll, which reminded me of your theory 😆: If we were to assume the Ao lie Mei and Tang meet in the scroll is the real one (like how Peng and Yellow Tusk were also kept in the scroll), is it possible that Ao lie was placed in the scroll to preserve his life? (Maybe to save him, or to use him as a means to force Wukong to face him again)
Thank you! For most of my theories, I do tend to look at the original book. The book really gives a lot of context to the show and is helpful for understanding certain things :)

This is an important point that we must pay attention to. Tang was imprisoned inside the body of Emperor Tang Senzang, which means that this was the previous life of Tang. And also Chu Bagi and Sadni But Mai can't possibly be the Western White Horse Dragon thousands of years ago because they've already met But in the ring of fire, Smadhi Begzi, May, Sandy and Tang were familiar with the place where the fire split, which is evidence that the pilgrims did not die. By the way, I was wondering about Mai, because I know that M.K. is the hero of the program, but I feel that Mai has a hidden importance in the scroll of memories, as teacher Subodhi tried to confuse M.K., and it turned out that he was Haberu, maybe Mai as well. It was muddled by Teacher Subbody's ink
Your theories are all great, this being no exception! To add on, there was this post on twitter that pointed out Ao Lie's background in the S4 Special Intro being the only one with stairs leading to..somewhere, we don't know where but he's the only one with stairs, which could imply that we'll see him soon because of....stairs
Kind of, yeah! I actually talked about this in this video about the Scroll: ua-cam.com/video/kq-Octu53Pw/v-deo.html I made that video before season 4 aired, so a lot of the stuff in it is wrong/outdated. But, at 2:53, I talk about how the symbols on the Scroll are zodiac symbols written in Oracle Bone Script. Now, the only group of characters that include ALL of the Zodiac symbols in Journey to the West are the 28 Mansions, so I'm thinking they have something to do with the Scroll. And Kui Mulang is one of the 28 Mansions :) I do plan to make an updated video just on this mentioning some other stuff, but I don't know if I'll have time before the special airs (ofc, if I don't make it before the special airs, but the special doesn't prove/disprove my theory and/or completely reveal what's up with the Scroll, then I can always make that video after the special)
If this is the real Ao lie , why isn't he trying to escape the scroll? Or telling Mei about it so someone will come in the future to save him if he for some reason can't escape from it by himself.
I was thinking, because he has been in there so long, he is trapped in the memories so much he doesn't even know it anymore. Maybe when he first got stuck in there he tried to escape and wound up in a memory is is not supposed to be in.
I know it could be that they're both descendants and reincarnations because in a lot of Asian cultures reincarnation is most likely to happen in your family line
1:21 Ao Guang is actually Ao Lie’s brother, according to the show. I don’t know why the LMK Fan Wiki says the he is Ao Lie’s uncle though when early in season 3 Ao Guang himself specifically calls Ao Lie his brother.
To be fair to Master Subodhi, the book version of him is a beast, described as having "six ears" which is books way of saying "all knowing". At least according to the Anthony C. Yu's translation notes. Him seeing the future might be the only reason he agreed to name and train someone like Wukong.
Where is Master Subodhi decribed as having six ears? I only know of the passage where Sun Wukong, in Master Subodhi's presence, said "there are no six ears here". From what I know, the phrase "six ears" signifies an eavesdropper/third party (since, when two people are talking they have four ears altogether, and so a third person listening in makes six ears). I haven't heard of "six ears" meaning all-knowing, so I'd like to know more about this (espeacially as it might contribute to some stuff I'm doing on the Six Eared Macaque) - do you happen to have the page number? The Six Eared Macaque was described as knowing the past and future by the Buddha, and his name comes from the phrase "six ears", so, if "six ears" also has the meaning of being all-knowing, that could explain why the Buddha described the Six Eared Macaque as knowing the past and future.
But just because the fruit lengthened their lifespan doesn't mean they're invanreble like Wukong. It just means they're "fake immortals" like Buddha called Monkey, when he was rempaging through heaven, cause he hasn't reached ture immortality/Buddhahood yet. So that would mean the lifespan got longer, but they could still be killed. Like Macaque, who as celestial monkey should also have been sorta immortal, but still could get killed. Being immortal ≠ being invincible. So, with that in mind, it could be that Wujing and Pig were killed in a beatle or fight and got reincarnated as Sandy and Pigsy. Or easier and simples explaination. The show is, just as the book, inconsintened with some things.
True, but it would be a bit suspicious if all of them got killed. Especially Tang Sanzang, since he became a Buddha at the end of the book. And Buddha's actually don't reincarnate - so if Tang Sanzang became a Buddha, he shouldn't have any more lives after that. However, since Sun Wukong and Tang Sanzang became Buddhas at the end of the book, but Sun Wukong and Mr. Tang* definitely don't appear to be Buddhas, maybe their Journey in Monkie Kid wasn't successful and something bad happened 👀 *I think Mr. Tang really is Tang Sanzang, but he lost his memories. But if Mr. Tang really is a reincarnation of Tang Sanzang, then that means Tang Sanzang definitely didn't become a Buddha and the Journey likely was indeed a failure.
@@RVSketch I was thinking the same. Maybe the journey was successful or not. Or maybe they just didn became Buddhas at the end. The show Ssms to not follow the actuall story of the book anyway and instead sims to be more or less inspiered by it. Unless there is gonna be a giant revile at the end that all was 'fake' or atleast not how they thought things were. Like you said in your video. 🤔
I can see aoi le a still being alive because he is a frinking dragon and he's not we're he is supposed to be and maybe sunwukong doesn't know aoi le a is still alive but that's my opinion
Yeah if he is dead I will be super mad bc aio le a his uncle is still alive and well like you said sunwukong doesn't know or he's just chilling some where that sunwukong doesn't noo
@@RVSketch What if Ao lie knows he is Trapped in the scroll of Memory and tried changing his Fate By Letting Kui Mulang try to kill him But he keeps getting saved over and over again and He wishes That If that person didn't Save him He would be Out of the scroll
But he should still be alive, i mean his brother is alive, he is immortal right? Unless he has that type of immortality where you can still be killed by somebody and probably somebody killed him
I'm not sure if they're immortal (they might just live a really long time), but yeah, if they are immortal, it would be the type where you can still get killed.
It means Ollie might be locked up in the manuscript because he did a bad thing or Izor or whatever he did You want to say that it may not be a curse, but rather contain it, and this may be a reason Thousands of generations ago, Mai the Dragon Horse Girl and her grandfather managed to contain the destructive fire of Samadhi, so they could contain the curse. Sorry I may not be logical but I've thought about it a lot Since I don't know if Master Spode with May was a ink or not, he may have confused her so that the curse would control her.
but what about the samadhi fire if really Ao lie still alive it mean the four ring of the samadhi fire still inside him not inside Mei.this my opinion but I really hope if he's still alive
If Ao Lie is still alive, I don't think the Fourth Ring would be in him. I think it just got passed down when he had a child. Kind of like how, in Ninjago, Elemental Masters lose their powers once they pass them down to their children.
@@mohammadtarek3842 yeah I know - I just meant he didn't have a regular human form in the book, but he did shapeshift into a human woman one time. So, LMK giving him a regular human form makes sense.
@@حياهالكرتون well I'll look into Master Subodhi, but Sun Wukong/the Monkey King wasn't created by Aeon/the Emperor's daughter in Journey to the West. I can't find anything on this, but there may be an adaptation or other version where this is true. Monkey King's creation/existence is detailed in the first chapter of Journey to the West, but no one created him. But I'll have to look into some of the earlier versions of Monkey King that came before the Journey to the West novel, as well as some of the early adaptations. It's possible the Monkey King was made by the Emperor's daughter in one of those, but since Monkie Kid is specifically based on the Journey to the West novel, it probably won't be in the show.
1:21 Ao Guang is actually Ao Lie’s brother, according to the show. I don’t know why the LMK Fan Wiki says the he is Ao Lie’s uncle though when early in season 3 Ao Guang himself specifically calls Ao Lie his brother.
In S3E2, Au Guang says: "I know this blade. It belonged to my brother, the Dragon of the West. You mean to tell me you are a descendant of Ao Ji." He wasn't talking about Ao Lie there. The Dragon of the West/Ao Ji was Ao Lie's father, and he originally owned and created the Dragon Blade, not Ao Lie.
To be honest, Ao Guang’s mention of Ao Ji always confused me for some reason that I couldn’t figure out. But your explanation of who Ao Ji is cleared that confusion. Thank you.
@@KnightsOfCamelore yeah, it did kind of come out of nowhere. Although, in-universe, it wouldn't make sense for Ao Guang to mention Ao Lie at the sight of the sword, as Ao Ji made it and we don't know if Ao Lie ever even used it.
Tang* definitely don't appear to be Buddhas, maybe their Journey in Monkie Kid wasn't successful and something bad happened 👀
*I think Mr.
I don't know but he's best boy Ao Lie
HOLY SHIT (POSITIVE)
Thanks! :D
I can see aoi le a still being alive because he is a frinking dragon and he's not we're he is supposed to be and maybe sunwukong doesn't know aoi le a is still alive but that's my opinion
Yeah! And, if he is dead, we'd better get an explanation! We still have no idea what happened to him or the other pilgrims 😭
Yeah if he is dead I will be super mad bc aio le a his uncle is still alive and well like you said sunwukong doesn't know or he's just chilling some where that sunwukong doesn't noo
@@Dinocorn_peace Yeah, I'll also be upset if he ends up being dead 😭
He needs more screen time
Definitely!
Did they just ditch him or something!? Did someone ditch ao lie!?
I hope not 😭
@@RVSketch What if Ao lie knows he is Trapped in the scroll of Memory and tried changing his Fate By Letting Kui Mulang try to kill him But he keeps getting saved over and over again and He wishes That If that person didn't Save him He would be Out of the scroll
But he should still be alive, i mean his brother is alive, he is immortal right?
Unless he has that type of immortality where you can still be killed by somebody and probably somebody killed him
I'm not sure if they're immortal (they might just live a really long time), but yeah, if they are immortal, it would be the type where you can still get killed.
sorry I am late,I have a theory that when mk and mei freed tang,it might have changed the events in the story and so ao lie is alone.
Great video!
Thanks!
I have a theory what if the golden cicada that tang made when mei was Turing to the Samadhi was the monk of tang ant sister
Hmmm. That is a pretty interesting theory 👀
It means Ollie might be locked up in the manuscript because he did a bad thing or Izor or whatever he did
You want to say that it may not be a curse, but rather contain it, and this may be a reason
Thousands of generations ago, Mai the Dragon Horse Girl and her grandfather managed to contain the destructive fire of Samadhi, so they could contain the curse.
Sorry I may not be logical but I've thought about it a lot
Since I don't know if Master Spode with May was a ink or not, he may have confused her so that the curse would control her.
Oh interesting 👀
Wate apawt Princesse
but what about the samadhi fire if really Ao lie still alive it mean the four ring of the samadhi fire still inside him not inside Mei.this my opinion but I really hope if he's still alive
If Ao Lie is still alive, I don't think the Fourth Ring would be in him. I think it just got passed down when he had a child. Kind of like how, in Ninjago, Elemental Masters lose their powers once they pass them down to their children.
So ao lie still alive?
Well, I think he is - but it's just a theory at the moment. Currently, it's not been confirmed if he's dead or alive 😔
@@RVSketch oh ok thanks 😭💚
But ao lie is in mei's sword
I don't think that is confirmed - that is a power Mei has - it has never been said that that is literally Ao Lie. But it's a cool theory!
I have a question :how did Ao lie get a humanoid form?
He has shapeshifting powers. I don't think he had a regular/normal human form in the book, but he did shapeshift into palace maid in Chapter 30.
@@RVSketch it has been hinted in the intro of season 4 that it's his regular/normal human form.
@@mohammadtarek3842 yeah I know - I just meant he didn't have a regular human form in the book, but he did shapeshift into a human woman one time. So, LMK giving him a regular human form makes sense.
Excuse me, but I wanted to say that the great teacher in the original book is dead
Master Subodhi?
Yes@@RVSketch
@@حياهالكرتون Oh that's interesting. Do you happen to know what chapter or volume that was mentioned in?
Honestly, I read it from multiple sources, and also the one who made Monkej is Aeon, the Emperor's daughter@@RVSketch
In S3E2, Au Guang says:
"I know this blade. It belonged to my brother, the Dragon of the West. You mean to tell me you are a descendant of Ao Ji."
He wasn't talking about Ao Lie there. The Dragon of the West/Ao Ji was Ao Lie's father, and he originally owned and created the Dragon Blade, not Ao Lie.
@@RVSketch Right. I forgot about that. My mistake. 😅
But it would've been helpful if Ao Ji had actually ever been mentioned before! I believe this was the only time he's ever been talked about in the show.
But I suppose Chinese viewers would've already had the context for who Ao Ji is.
@@RVSketch That was indeed the only moment that Ao Ji was mentioned in the entire show so far. But who knows. Maybe he will be mentioned again in season 6 when it comes out, or in a more distant future season.
