In Soviet Union showing your face was normal (as a member of special operation unit) because they was no fear that anyone would retaliate (a.k.a. mafia that you were killing/hunting/imprisoning). This 'masked' 'fetish' (now anti-terrorist nonsense) was widely practiced by the death squads originating from/by (today) capitalist countries (be that some regular or irregular troops). All these pictures are from Spetsnaz, just read the abbreviation, or read video description of what it stands for.
dude, holy shit you didn't flip out like any other person would....i respect you buddy, and honestly i was just being cocky, from what i've heard spetsnaz have quite the record and toughness under their belt
I'm glad people still remember how to conduct simple conversation. Being a capitalism or a communist have nothing to do with nationalities or with any other similar-level human trait. Capitalist is a person who controls the means of production, in any meaning and in any level. The rest are the working class. Quite the opposite, Stalin was the least corrupted person in Soviet history... same goes for Lenin, of course...etc History is a life teacher, isn't it. And I thank you for your comment!
Exactly. This is what I said from beginning. This is not only tribute to newly formed anti-terrorist units, nor its a tribute to all other units adjacent to the ministries and sub-branching. Its an overall tribute, because of their special, unified to a point, training and experience they shown in history...
Exactly! And they train in case they 'need to use that body of theirs', 100% sure in self. It is the same with intelligence officers, they train hard in combat even if their chance of using that knowledge is about 1%, they need to be 100% certain that will not fail in that 'faculty'...
I'll give it this though, on a U.S. show here,.. Deadliest Warrior.. they run tests on weapons and people who studied two different warriors from history to see who would best the other in combat (via computer sim) So they had U.S. Green Beret vs. Russian Spetsnaz ....With 2 U.S. Soldiers and 2 Spetsnaz.. very cool demonstrating weapons and tactics. comp sim.Spetsnaz won by 6 kills out of 1000 battles! Of course I still think our guys would win in rl :P Of course I hope our people never fight.
Army Rangers are considered SF, but used only in large operations. (Taking an airfield). The Airforce has special ops and are often used in Army operations. Special ops Helocopters with all the bells and whistles as well as AC130 gunships that are very good.
He means you don't fully understand what is involved with being in this unit. Army life is very appealing to many people but many people can't handle it. And Spetsnaz is going be even tougher.
@Clipse2095 There is no such thing as a MiG 28, but i guess you mean the Mil-28 otherwise known as the "Havoc", the KA-52 is the one called "Alligator"
Spetsnatz are special purpose units in the Soviet/Russian State aparatus (military and civilian). They proved themselves from WW2 (indirectly in Civil War) till now in South Ossetia...
The first and primary weapon of any SF soldier or officer is his head, his ability to make right decisions. You can train your body, but if you're stupid, you won't make it there. Just because you didn't do the right thing at the right moment.
Единственный род войск, который отдаёт свои жизни в мирное в мирное время, спасая и защищая жизни гражданского населения! Слава спецназу всех государств!!! Особенно нашему) -> evilfalseprophet : главное эфективность, а не дизайн;-)
Well, if that happens... The winner will write history... Thanks, to be honest, the music inspired me! P.S. At least we saw the US Spetsnaz in action, now we just need to see RU Spetsnaz...
I don't understand you first question, but they are present in air, ground and sea... Both in military and intelligence services... Spetsnaz means, in very blunt and short, Special Forces. ;) Maybe the rythm is new, but the song is old, and the words indicate a patriotic song of the Spetsnaz...
AN-94 is made only for home production, and its currently slowly replacing standard AK-74M weapons. While AK 101 is made especially for export, seeing how it chambers 5.56x45mm (NATO) round. While you probably meant AK 103, which is made more for limited home use and export.

Comparing courage, strength, and ability are relative for people with the same demanding training. By what they bring to the battle, I am talking about, the resources they can call upon to deal with what they need to deal with. Do they have GPS navagation, secure communications, and how far can it reach. Can they call in a strike when needed?
Im supposed to try to join in a year ... but i have no idea what am i supposed to do... i mean how am i supposed to join. im already training for that since i was a little kid
Yes im a Russian ( but i live in Serbia) yh i was born in Russia and have family there but live here and have 1 part of family here that might be a problem and dont worry i know russian but cant write atm because of my keyboard....

LOL, yes GLONASS is finally operational again. Prior to this year it was only partly operational due to the demise of its satelites, and then only in Russia. Does thier computer in the field have the ability to hook up with satelites, to receive recon aircraft, live video, laser targeting, etc. The ability to do this sounds easy, but takes a lot of equipment all around to do.
First Spetsnaz in Soviet Union were Internal troop units of the Cheka. Such for instance OMSDON... Spetsnaz was present in almost all security oriented ministries in Soviet Union in one form or another. Because Spetsnaz means nothing more then Special purpose armies. Be that in diplomatic core, or in military intelligence... or any other division.
Truly being serious about my previous question. America's great and all, but I don't want to be part of something that says freedom for all, but then hasn't even passed the point accepting people who are even willing to die for it.
In fact, I appreciate @combatskin's notion of differentiation in certain qualities, but I must say that this tribute is primary to the forces of Soviet Union (from all eras, especially the beginning), and that present 'heritage' puts them 'above' all others (non-socialistic) Spec-ops troops.
It all depends on type of usage of SF, the type of the 'battlefield' they utilise, look at the S-300/400 system (as an whole concept of Russian technology usage)... Don't forget that Russia is no 3rd world country in every 'modern' aspect, especially now... P.S. By the words of the Russian Scientific Institute of Space Instrument Engineering it is said that 2009 will be the year of total world coverage...
Well TacticalConnoisseur, you should do a bit more research. And if something confuses you, that must be the time origin of the pictures, spanning from CCCP, trough out Yeltsin period, and now.
If you want something really Impressive look at storm-333 (And for the love of God, don;t use Wikipedia). A small group of Spetsnaz stormed the Afghan Presidents palace, which was guarded by 200 elite guards, Heavy machine guns, and artillery. Spetsnaz won. Please Note - What you read will probably say that the Spetsnaz losses were something around 20-25 dead. In all actuality most of these were part of the "Special Muslim battalion" which were not all that well trained. Alpha losses:2 men
'special field' Spetsnaz? First time I hear this connotation. You can't equate Spetsnaz with for instance, SAS or USMC... cause Spetsnaz is a wider term, but could you be specific in explaining what 'special field' derivation stands for?
Again, no argument from me. But the issue of who brings more to the battlefield in terms of communications, the ability to bring in firepower, satelite links to relay intel, etc. I have no doubt many SF units around the world are intelligent, courageous, well trained fighters, capable of taking out the bad guys, but intel, backup assets, secure communications make a big difference.
That is the reason I made this video. I hate to watch those pictures of Russian 'SF' from the period near the fall of SU and the Yeltsin period... Looking like band of cutthroats and cavemen. Today the things are totally different, and It is hard to find appropriate pictures from 'today' period, especially if you don't know Russian very good...
Russia has never been a third world country. And in the US we would not classify Air Defence as SF, altho I believe in Russia they do. SF in the US is usually limited to Army SF, used for training forces of other countries or guerilla fighters. Also used for recon and intell gathering) (Hunter killer teams. Used for hostage rescue and taking down high value targets)Navy Seals are often used in hunter killer teams. The Marines have Marine recon that have just been upgraded to SF.
15 years ago i listened this like children. Today this burn strong emotions in me. Grettings from Serbia!!! We will always support you brothers!

exactly right, without proper intelegence and air support u can be ambushed, and no matter what your training is u won't survive if the bullet hits u

Yeah, they "disarmed the terrorists" and only let 334, including 156 children die, with nearly 200 people gone missing. That's a job well done.
Spetsnaz the best
