- Today, "Russian special forces (Spetsnaz) can refer to any elite or special purpose units under subordination of the Federal Security Service (FSB) or Internal Troops of Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the units controlled by the military intelligence service GRU. Exactly. This is what I said from beginning. This is not only tribute to newly formed anti-terrorist units, nor its a tribute to all other units adjacent to the ministries and sub-branching. Its an overall tribute, because of their special, unified to a point, training and experience they shown in history...

He means you don't fully understand what is involved with being in this unit. Army life is very appealing to many people but many people can't handle it. And Spetsnaz is going be even tougher.

I'll give it this though, on a U.S. show here,.. Deadliest Warrior.. they run tests on weapons and people who studied two different warriors from history to see who would best the other in combat (via computer sim)
So they had U.S. Green Beret vs. Russian Spetsnaz ....With 2 U.S. Soldiers and 2 Spetsnaz.. very cool demonstrating weapons and tactics.

Exactly! And they train in case they 'need to use that body of theirs', 100% sure in self. It is the same with intelligence officers, they train hard in combat even if their chance of using that knowledge is about 1%, they need to be 100% certain that will not fail in that 'faculty'...

The first and primary weapon of any SF soldier or officer is his head, his ability to make right decisions. You can train your body, but if you're stupid, you won't make it there. Just because you didn't do the right thing at the right moment.

Army Rangers are considered SF, but used only in large operations. (Taking an airfield). The Airforce has special ops and are often used in Army operations. Special ops Helocopters with all the bells and whistles as well as AC130 gunships that are very good.

Spetsnatz are special purpose units in the Soviet/Russian State aparatus (military and civilian).
They proved themselves from WW2 (indirectly in Civil War) till now in South Ossetia...

AN-94 is made only for home production, and its currently slowly replacing standard AK-74M weapons.
While AK 101 is made especially for export, seeing how it chambers 5.56x45mm (NATO) round. While you probably meant AK 103, which is made more for limited home use and export.

In fact, I appreciate @combatskin's notion of differentiation in certain qualities, but I must say that this tribute is primary to the forces of Soviet Union (from all eras, especially the beginning), and that present 'heritage' puts them 'above' all others (non-socialistic) Spec-ops troops.

Comparing courage, strength, and ability are relative for people with the same demanding training. By what they bring to the battle, I am talking about, the resources they can call upon to deal with what they need to deal with. Do they have GPS navagation, secure communications, and how far can it reach. Can they call in a strike when needed?

I don't understand you first question, but they are present in air, ground and sea... Both in military and intelligence services... Spetsnaz means, in very blunt and short, Special Forces. ;)
Maybe the rythm is new, but the song is old, and the words indicate a patriotic song of the Spetsnaz...

First Spetsnaz in Soviet Union were Internal troop units of the Cheka. Such for instance OMSDON... Spetsnaz was present in almost all security oriented ministries in Soviet Union in one form or another.
Because Spetsnaz means nothing more then Special purpose armies. Be that in diplomatic core, or in military intelligence... or any other division.

If you want something really Impressive look at storm-333 (And for the love of God, don;t use Wikipedia). A small group of Spetsnaz stormed the Afghan Presidents palace, which was guarded by 200 elite guards, Heavy machine guns, and artillery. Spetsnaz won. Please Note - What you read will probably say that the Spetsnaz losses were something around 20-25 dead. In all actuality most of these were part of the "Special Muslim battalion" which were not all that well trained. Alpha losses:2 men
