I made a custom, modern sliding barn door for my parents' new house in ONE WEEKEND. Here's how I did it (with a little help from my partner in crime)!

I love this! My upstairs bathroom has no room for a door so it opens to the outside right at the top of the stairs. I had been thinking about doing this but they are so expensive. I can totally see myself making one. You rock!!

Great first attempt on the roll-up chair. The polyester strapping worked great on the base and seat as it (the strapping) is applied to the outside of the curved shape. Have you considered applying the polyester strapping to the outside of the curve for the back part of the chair? Unfortunately, I'm not sure it will roll up as nicely - might be two rolls. Good luck! I hope you find a solution.

I was thinking of using your idea but I have an opening that is 44" wide. I was thinking of 2 -22" doors. It's not a typical size door so I would need to cut something to size. Any suggestions for a base door to start with?
You should add some soft close mechanisms. Nice work... your folks should be very happy!

Thanks for the great video. I needed 2 custom bypass doors in a bathroom and this design worked well. I used 1/2 in plywood instead of slab door to keep thickness down. I too was rushed for time so tried the one step Poly Shades. Big mistake. Easily the worst product I have ever used. It was like spreading Hershey syrup and killed all the wood figuring. Sanded it all back down and went with 3 coats stain and then 3 coats wipe on poly. I wouldn't recommend the one step product to anyone. Overall, enjoyable project to finish out my bathroom remodel. Keep it up.

The poplar wood took the stain that well? Is there a trick to it besides the pre-treat? Also, great design, and an added bonus is it tricks the eyes into thinking the door opening isn't so small.
