When I watched this in theaters, I loved this. Timothee is very underrated for this talent as an actor and his singing voice. 👌. I’m learning the songs too
Glad that you loved the film. The film was great. This is definitely a prequel to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) film with Gene Wilder as Wonka. If you guys haven’t seen the original Willy Wonka, you should. It’s such a classic
If people still had doubts about him, Timothee Chalamet proved beyond doubt just how capable an actor he is with this role. This positive, zany, carefree version of young Wonka is an absolute treat to watch.
The movie captured so many current day topics and illustrated them perfectly: the corrupt police force, the chocolate cartel controlling everyone and everything, the forced work labor that's bordering on slavery.
It's been really cool, portraying the 3 members of the chocolate cartel as almost devils of sorts : they have the priest and church sinning for their chocolate-y favours, the police chief can never resist their temptations and the offer they make Wonka after his shop is destroyed - trying to smother his soul, his will to fight with the prospect of having all his friends live a better life - without Wonka in their lives and without him doing what he loves - making chocolate.
Gettin the chocolate so you can properly enjoy the Wonka experience was a brilliant idea ❤

I’m not a fan of musicals but this was such a good movie because this being the prequel to the 1971 version of Willy Wonka made it feel nostalgic!

Wonka (2023) is a prequel to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory (1971) starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka not the (2005) remake. So the Gene Wilder one is the one to watch Magy.
I loved Wonka & saw it in the cinema. I was so impressed how well they did for a prequel.
I was a little disappointed with your editor here as he or she cut your reaction to my favorite scene at the Zoo where Willy cheers up Noodle. That's the scene & song that made me love this film. Other than that great reaction ladies.
I do think there's some stuff from the 2005 movie. Might just be me, but I think it's a good mix of the two.
Timothee Chalamet was a great Willy Wonka! He manages to provide his own interpretation of the character that withstands comparisons to Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp, and his spirited performance is arguably one of the film's strengths. Also helps that he's surrounded by a talented supporting cast that adds to the experience as well, including Hugh Grant stealing his handful of scenes as an Oompa Loompa.
19:30 - That's probably the best song in the movie. I almost cried at it
Magy, you should watch the 1984 movie Heartbreakers. It's such a great and underrated movie.

This movie came out in theaters during the winter holidays, and I can tell you, it was the absolute perfect Christmas movie !
It melted my heart so much I ended up buying tons of chocolate, stuff my face with it, then go back to watch the movie a second time, this time with my belly full of chocolate (the first time I went in with an empty stomach, which was a terrible mistake).
This movie is basically Harry Potter in the land of the Magic Chocolate ! It feels like what a Disney live action adaptation movie should look and feel like.
Funny that it's been made by Warner Bros.
If it still plays in theaters around you, I urge you to go watch it again there, it really is a big screen experience.

While the majority of the songs are original. The Oompa Loompa song and the Imagination song are from the 1971 movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. So you guys should probably react to that next.

I have a theory: Rohal Dahl judged the movie with Gene Wilder too fancy and based too much on Willy so i guess that's the reason they gived Willy a backstory similar to Charlie's backstory in Tim Burton's chocolate factory (he was also that poor to have a chocolate bar just for his birthday)
I believe Rohal Dahl hated every movie based on his work.
Magy must see "the society of the snow", it's a real story from my country Uruguay, theres some cameos of the real survivors

Everyone have a different opinion but for me the evolution of the character on the 3 films is this one, then the gene wilder one and at the end depp. The way wonka evolve into his darker and expierenced side. Love this version and its "inocense"

I hope you ladies decide to watch the original Willy Wonka with Gene Wilder as this one you just watched is more closely related to that one. It’s generally considered to be a better movie than the Johnny Depp version. I’ve loved the original since I was “little”.

Wonka was how I expected it fun, entertaining, happy, and dreamy. Of course the Tim Burton version is his style and Johnny Depp is brilliant as willy wonka but Timothy was a silly, cute and sweet version of wonka which I love. I actually love both of the movies.
Slugworth Is the main villain cuz he and His comrades use the money to corrupt the people with chocolate destroying Wonka's Dream. And lying about Noodle's mom, the girl was searching for her but for His Evil actions, she ended working as a slave of Olivia Colman's character.

Magy, I've just walked in the door from seeing this at the cinema with my mother and it was brilliant.
Please check out the Horrible Histories TV series. Several of the guys from this film, including one of its screenwriters, are in that series and they made it hilarious.
Timothee is briliant. He's only young and up-and-coming, yet he's already come pretty far as an actor. This is easily his best role.

I've seen this movie 8 times cause I loved it. Of course it's a well made musical so that's why it was easy to get back into it but it was great to me too.

I think it's a very good movie.
You need to watch the original 1971 version of Willy Wonka, because you wont have the same nostalgic feeling watching Wonka if you don't. Especially when he sings Pure Imagination. Because they based this movie more off the original with Gene Wilder.
