3:11 that car parked on the side of the main strait, totally cool situation....today we would have red flagged the race and postponed it for a couple of days to ensure the car was fully behind the barriers. 😂
The only reason Irvine end up in front of Herbert was because he didn't need to brake as hard to do the chicane. It doesn't matter if Herbert went off, Irvine took advantage of not braking sooner to make the chicane.
In Canada at this time of F1 we were forced to listen to Vic Rauters and Gerry Donaldson doing the commentating. Why on earth TSN thought that was a good idea was always beyond me.

kinda love we got to see what Irvine could really do in 1999 after Schumi broke his leg, instead of just being happy to be there collecting a big pay check to help Michael once in a while, he had to lead the team & did much better than anyone expected, yeah he had a couple of bad results but getting a number of wins was great
He only won when Häkkinen had a DNF in Australia or Germany or was spun around by his team mate in Austria. Also Coulthard had a DNF in Australia. And in Malaysia he won because Schumacher held up the McLaren-Mercedes.
Schumi came back after long injury and blew the whole field by a second or so. So I would rather argue Irvine somehow managed to not win a championship with superb machinery.
I remember this season, I had very spectations for Irvine in the next one but he move to Jag to get the best helmet ever. Instead, Barrichello took the shield
This.. everyone saying FIA let him off but Herbert failed to make the corner as well so it was chalked down to both as bad as each other if Herbert had stayed in track Irvine would have been deemed as only completing the overtake via going off track.
Good old times, screaming engines, dead cars resting on the side, they knew how it was supposed to be back then, not all the today crap whenever there are two drops of water on the track and 10 pace cars lap because someone fuc**d up a turn...
Eddie had his share of bad luck in 99, along with some understandable selfishness from Schumacher when he returned to the team. He would’ve been a very unexpected but popular champion that year if things went slightly differently.
@@TPH250290 Because he recovered to 3rd after dropping to the back of the field. Verstappen pulled of something similar in 2016 in Brazil, mind you it was in the wet.
How many other F1 drivers champion titles DC "stole" preventing them aquire one?!!! Not only GP-Canada that year but also preventing MS to win the ultimate Suzuka that year weaving in front him unabling him to pass and beat MH and take away crucial points in favour of Eddie so he can be crowned F1-champ 1999 (for me the one and only trully for 1999). Not to mention 1998 Spa-Froncorchamp DC after causing start mayhem and re-start with 4 laps behind the leader (MS) and re-leased from the pits with one intention only, dragging on the pouring rain on the race line in a cloud of water spray only to provoke rear impact of MS once again playing ball for and making MH champion 1998!!! Or the most blatant one-1997 moving aside for Villeneuve pass at the ultimate race after FW called RD asking for a favour so the drivers title won't end in Maranello!
Schumacher ended his own 1997 championship by t-boning into Villeneuve. DC and Hakkinen both drove by him. As for 98, well, to me it looked like Schumacher just expected Coulthard to just magically disappear. Which, obviously he didn't.
I miss the days when you could just leave the car on the side of the road. The modern day F1 steward snowflakes would probably give out 800 penalties for just the 5 minutes shown here
By today's rules, Eddie would be sentenced to life in prison.
