Played this in my high school jazz band. We won many competitions with this piece. We had so much fun playing this. Good memories of an awesome song.

My uncle is a pretty awesome jazz guitarist (in addition to being a cardiologist…I sorta hate how talented he is. Lol). He had a stack of Spyro Gyra records he introduced me to when I was a little kid in the mid-80s and starting to learn piano and all that. I’ll always be grateful to him. These guys are fantastic, fantastic players! Still love them to this day. Jay Beckenstein, in particular, is a hero. Super underrated jazz saxophonist. A million sax players have copied his sound and made careers out of it. Lol.

For me, this is the musical piece of the Spyro Gyra that stands out from the rest! Whenever I listen to this, it feels like Christmas is just around the corner with the breeze smelling of freshly picked apples and evokes happy and joyful memories for me! I love this to bits!

after a show, Beckenstein autographed this album for me and shared that he has this painting in his home in NY. He also said that when the album cover was first painted, it had NO PEOPLE in it. He told the artist to go back and put people in it..... check out the small addition of people in the bottom in a parade. Mr. Beckenstein is very gracious and funny during shows. if you haven't seen SG live....do yourself a favor and GO.

Saw them at Studio 54 in NYC (after that club reopened) then at the Rialto in Elizabeth, NJ. The Jeff Lorber group opened for them and guess who was in that band at the time? Kenny G!

Paul Shaffer's band plays on this track as well as a few SNL band members (Will Lee, Hiram Bullock, Steve Jordan, Crusher Bennett, Tom Malone).
actually the original Late Night band was the 24th Street Band with Paul replacing Clifford Carter... Will Lee, Hiram Bullock, Steve Jordan, and Clifford Carter.
