      Sure certain 'Welfare Polices'( And Medicare/Medicaid in a form reparations for Black Americans might be not such a bad thing)can be helpful,but u don't want to incentify someone not to work,because it's been shown not to be too successful in the past!!.Just like if a person wins money gambling in some fashion, ' money found ( as the saying goes) they tend to be less prudent& more capricious as opposed to money which has been earned through hard work!
      And I dont agree when comparisons are made with Europe (Scandinavia,France,Holland and Germany come to mind) because those countries did'nt just arrive at those junctures over night,hey took hundreds of yrs to establish a certain mindset and Philosophy towards paying higher Taxes ( Something that Americans find hard to wrap their head around!)
      And on ' The White Saviour compex' the Dude who owned up to it with such pride,made me cringe! If u wish to be charitable,then do so with everyone& anyone,but directing it at Minorities is so 'Lets occupy the moral high ground' and f##king condescending to say the least!

      It makes sense. Like every multi billionaire is white and they have so much wealth that ignoring them by going from mean to mode salary drops it nationwide by several thousand dollars per year. One multi billionaire probably has more wealth than like all black americans combined, and then you have the others and then finally normal white people. I really would like to see the racial/gender numbers with them removed because those like 40 people have unfathomable wealth and only barely like poor whites more than poor blacks.

    Just giving people money often does not materially change their lives, strings attached or not. A quick Google shows that 70% of lottery winners are broke within a few years. Money is a bandaid on a gaping wound that is a lifetyle/culture that needs to change for longterm success.

    Ooh, i loved you pointing out that MLK was not a particularly good man. For some our society we have a tendency to talk about historical figures in absolutes. MLK said some good things, therefore we are supposed to treat everything he may have said as gospel. Columbus did some good things so some try to idolize him, whereas some terrible things were done to natives by his explorations therefore he was terrible. The Founding Fathers owned slaves so we must discount everything good they did. It is ridiculous. Good people make mistakes, it doesn't undo the good. Not so good people can still accomplish great things and it is ok to acknowledge the good and the bad. We can learn from both.
    I will say that when kids are younger it is probably better to accentuate the good more than the bad, but to ignore it completely can be as harmful as focusing too much on the bad.

    On reparations, i feel like instead of giving black people, it should be invested more into inner-city schools and neighborhoods to provide better resources and opportunities. I think one thing the liberals glossed over is that funding of majority black communities starts at the state level and in a lot of liberal states, their policies do not end up helping black people at all. Johnny Harris did an op-ed on this for the NY times. People should give it a listen.

    • @DreadnoughtFiend

    • @DramaStar754
      @DramaStar754 Рік тому +5

      Off the top of my head, I think of funding for textbooks that are up to date, new computers, school renovations, etc. One thing i hated about BLM was that the amount of money they made didn't do any of those things. Another thing is that at certain city council meetings that focus on affordable housing are more often voted in favor of single family homes even though more affordable housing would probably alleviate the homelessness issues in places like California and NY, and these are liberals voting agaisnt this. I don't think flat out giving black people money will be beneficial, but utilizing money at the base level towards better resources will set the community on the right path. I'm a black non-conservative/non-liberal, so I don't have an extreme take on a topic like this, but in my experience, i don't know many black people that are active in their community council meetings to vote on issues that directly affect their communites, so it's also on black people to step up and not just the local governments.

    • @ca8944
      @ca8944 Рік тому +4

      @@DramaStar754just giving housing to the homeless doesn’t alleviate homelessness.
      They would need to go to rehab to get off drugs and/or get mental health treatment and/or get a job or enter some kind of job training that guarantees a job.

    • @DramaStar754
      @DramaStar754 Рік тому +2

      @ca8944 I'm not saying just give housing to the homeless, I'm saying there are people who have full-time jobs that can't even afford housing there. If housing were more affordable, less homelessness would be a result. This may be a surprise, but not everyone that is homeless is like that because they're on drugs or mentally unwell. There are people that choose to live in tents because they can't keep up with the rising cost of living, so again, it starts at the base level of policy creation to solve these issues.

  • @rayannaandrade6337

    I agree with you. It does incentivize them to not do a whole lot.
    I’m telling you as a 44-year-old person who used welfare in my 20s. Of course they encourage you to go to work, help you with your résumé ,provide you with all the resources to go to school but they’re not gonna help you become a doctor or lawyer . They will train you to be a dental assistant, or a file clerk. But some of those really worthwhile trades you have to go pay for yourself.
    A parent doesn’t qualify if they admit the “non custodial parent” is still around helping them. There will be issues with the benefits if they reconcile and come back. Part of the application process is to file for child support and collect. Whatever you can from that absent parent.. so it’s definitely discouraging a two parent family home. Couples can apply together, but they’ve got to be completely broke both of them unemployed. They can’t even say they just barely got a job and haven’t got paid. They will count that.
    I think there’s nothing wrong with getting a little help when you’re down but it’s not set up in a way that makes clients feel comfortable about getting off. The policies are set up in a way that people are scared to get off or tell the truth about their family structure.
    It’s a lot more complex than that. I totally agree with the conservatives as a former sociology student and welfare recipient and someone who was going to go into the field of social work. from being on the program and working as an intern in the human resources office I changed my mind about going into that field. It’s not helping people. California here

Its the same for ppl predominantly European ethnic with 20-30% I. The south with a grandparent Predominantly African ethnic. Most ppl mixed in America fall back into yt or blk boxes which is why I think race a joke and it's should be an American only option in American culture since Americans like to call everything a community and culture 😅

    I'm very surprised that someone actually brought up the Irish slaved in north America.
    I have been able to document 2 people on my mother's side that were actual slaves (not indentured servants) in Virginia in the early 1700's. They escaped to the Carolina region. Their children went back up north and became officers in George Washington's army, fighting the British. After the war they moved back to the Carolina region and reunited with the parents (escaped Irish slaves).
    Do I get forty acres and a mule???

While I did desperately need it and could see the "reparations" side of it, I kept finding myself wondering what support white people in my same situation would have. I see the answer now in the increased homeless population in my city. We need support available for all people, not just select minorities, and especially not based on something so superficial as race.

    On the topic of welfare in Hungary - yes, they do give huge variety of financial support for families, also a contribution for building a family house, even bigger for one in the countryside. However, it is often not enough, especially taking into account the current economic crisis that is hitting Hungary the hardest out of the countries in the region. I came back from Hungary to my country of origin a little over year ago, and most of the things were cheaper than in my home country, now - everything is on average 30% more expensive. And the Hungarians have always been earning poorly comapred to other countries in the EU. I’m no economist, and I’m sure there are a lot of factors at play, but my message is: Hungary’s policy on families may sound good in theory, but if you have the whole picture of the country , it is not a heaven for families, and a lot of Hungarians complain about the giving away so much money at random.

    Right now, I'm embroiled in a discussion with a PhD with whom I went to college, a guy semi-famous in comic book circles due to his dissertation. His premise is that anything - *_ANYTHING_* - coming out of Prager U, or out of Candace Owens' mouth is wrong. I am unable to even show him how preposterous that is to say about ANYONE. When I ask him to dispute specific facts cited in the videos, he refuses, instead sharing videos on completely different subjects, generally "[Person associated with Prager U] = BAD!" There is no changing his mind because he is completely unaware that the one he has is malfunctioning.

    In this country, for many years it was considered rude or poor form to discuss politics with company that might not share similar thoughts, and while this may be socially reasonable, democracy demands discussion. There was a time when perhaps reasonable people elected to political offices would have those discussion on the behalf of the public, but the drive for re-election amongst those people today has resulted in a rhetorical fight club that has drawn us all into their fights. It was largely nice to see a largely well-reasoned, reasonable and polite discussion. There needs to be a grass roots campaign to create just that, a reasoned and polite discussion of issues of the day where the American public, across party lines, leads elected officials and sets policy and agendas, not the other way around. If they are public servants, then the public needs to speak clearly as to what they want and how best they are served.

    The problem is that society is broken as a whole but black culture just broke first and fell to sin faster. The music, the vulgar dancing, the sex, drugs, violence. That was not their culture. but money incentives people to do stupid things. And now this new culture has completely eradicated the old one and tries to convince people it's the og. And if u disagree and say it's reprehensible or shameful behavior. Oh, it's my culture. It's not. Mlk would never. Aretha Franklin would never. Jackie Robinson would never. They were hard-working, family oriented members of society. They probably had flaws, but they certainly wouldn't be condoning any of this nonsense. None of this is gonna change unless it happens from the inside of the community.

    People in the USA will argue about wanting “free healthcare” , then finally get it and wonder then why their taxes have skyrocketed?? Free health care is NOT free. In any country. Someone is paying for it and it’s usually the general working society that do. Example average combined sales tax is 6 percent in the USA. Europes average is 21 percent. In the USA the average workers net tax is 24 percent and in Europe it is 47 percent with even Belgium having the highest. So if you want to welcome this “free health care” then by all means. I LOVE when people who have never experienced welfare or the people who make a career out of welfare are so defensive of it. As someone who had to live on welfare for the first 10 years of my adult life, I can assure you that the worst part of welfare is how the system is literally stacked against you. It's hard to get off of welfare or want to get off of welfare when you finally get that full time job that pays above minimum wage but the cost of living off of welfare is so high that it is SOOOOO much easier to keep that part time minimum wage job along with nearly free housing and keep that $300+ a kid food stamps money.
    My neighbors who were JOBLESS were buying choice cut STEAKS let that sink in.
    They sold their food stamps for alcohol (among other things). While that full time worker is paying their way and barely paying their bills.

    the Hungarian government is rhetorically supporting all families. irl their policy supports middle and upper-class nuclear families, outcasting single-parent households and lower-class families including the large percentage of Roma families. e.g. money is given to families where the 3rd child is born and the parents already have enough equity to build/buy a family house, thus further widening the economic gap between social groups. There is nothing like a gramma allowance (???), they do not even support families taking care of heavily disabled or chronically ill family members requiring 24/7 assistance.

    I never comment to disagree but I disagree with ámalas comment on working college students. My husband worked three jobs and would fall asleep at the wheel trying to get to school . He failed out multiple times. Mind you he was a 3.8 high school student . So yes it is very hard for college students who have to work. Most of us dropped out🙂

      @@ca8944 so here’s the thing , when you grow up not knowing anything but “ go to college “ you tend to just do what your parent tells you . His parent did just that and at 18 he followed the advice from them and every other adult . At the end of the day my husband graduated but the comment that we’re addressing is amala stating those people would excel even if they have to work multiple jobs .

      @soulgamesss Рік тому +1

      @@ca8944 also I’m not sure if you’ve gone to college but if you are working and trying to keep up with a workload and your grade slips you get out on academic probation . Which depending on the school revokes your financial aid . We ended up paying out of pocket because if he got less then a C he would be in danger of losing financial aid again so after the first time we just paid for it

      I hate that parents and high school counselors only push college and rarely talk about community colleges and trade schools.
      My daughter just finished trade school for welding. Cost $5000 for a year and will be making more than minimum wage and will increase with experience

      @@soulgamesss yeah, I went to community college for two years after I got pregnant the 2nd semester of a University. I got financial aid and that other loan that you don’t pay back.
      I also worked part time.
      I never finished though and regret it but I might go to the same trade school to finish my accounting degree.
      I hate that colleges require a bunch of mostly useless classes to graduate with a degree.
      I don’t need a psychology or political science class to do accounting ffs.
      I think it’s best for students to work summers full time to pay for community college for the year while having a part time job that pays good like being a server.
      That seems like the practical thing to do instead of having two jobs during the school year or getting school loans that put them in debt for decades.

    My new kitten is so much more cuddly than my other cat, and it's been such a nice addition to our family to get to have cuddles with her every day. She and the older cat are getting along fairly well, but I think our older cat sometimes gets overwhelmed and stressed about the kitten being all up in her business all the time. She swipes at her sometimes, which I think is good, because it's teaching the little one where her boundaries are.
    Hopefully once the kitten gets a little older, she'll chill out a bit and not be quite as playful, and maybe the older cat will be less stressed. Kitten's getting spayed next week, so maybe that will help. I'm curious to see how our older cat reacts to the little one coming home all loopy from the surgery. Maybe she'll take her under her wing with her mama instincts and take care of her.
    All in all, taking in this stray kitten has been a really positive decision for our little family. I'm glad the cats have been able to get along well enough for us to be able to keep the kitten. Their names are Gallifrey and Melody, both named after Doctor Who characters, which is my and my husband's favorite show.
    So... what I'm saying, of course, is that clearly there is no meritocracy in this country.

    Just looked up the income information.
    White per capita income: $36,962
    Black per capita income: $23,303
    Asian per capita income: $40,878
    Average American per Capita income: $37,638
    That is definitely not 50 times more. If he meant 50% more, then he is correct. But the population is also White: 245,860,228 and Black: 46,261,485. So there are 5 times more white people.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that in the US the schools in richer neighbourhoods get much more money from the govt than those in poorer ones, adn that these poorer areas tend to (but not always) have higher ratio of black Americans. I would say that instead of reparations as such, perhaps the balance of the system could be equalised a bit more. Take some money from the highest funded and make sure it goes into worthwile educational projects and school facilities at the bottom. I think the education system would be a good starting point to give lower income families a better 'leg-up' to do what they want in their careers, and in time, could pull the entire community up. Balancing other aspects of the system would also be required but, like I said, I'm not an expert on the intricacies of the effects of your federal system in local communities.

      The issue with that is some schools can hide how bad the students are doing in order to receive more money. I think it was a school in Baltimore that hid that many students couldn’t do math. Maybe instead of throwing money we try to see why some schools are failing that don’t necessarily have to do with funding.
