Limmy called it. Fletch was first to admit he didn’t do much musically but more a manager of the band as such, and managed to keep them together through some tough times. Limmy’s jokes were typical of the Depeche Mode fan community, an injoke that he never really did much artistically except clap. RIP Fletch
@@DCI-Frank-Burnside Well, he was a founding member, lol. He played synth bass incredibly early on in the band, but his role became more just adding wee bits of SFX via keyboard and sampling, as the band got more members. Even he admitted he didn't really do too much. Literally once gave everyone's role in the band and called his "bumming around." He took on more of the business end of things and like keeping things together in the band.
Andy McLuskey of OMD does a hilarious video describing what each member does musically (and in Fletchers case lack thereof), if you search on UA-cam something like 'Andy McLuskey of OMD on Depeche Mode' it's the second part of the clip, starting at 6:10
3:51 - my overwhelming feeling watching this, as a man approaching 50, is what a terrible human being I am for laughing at the Rolling Stones so much all these years.
"Depeche Mode's unique division of labor has been long established, with each of the three remaining members having a distinct role: Martin Gore writes the songs, Dave Gahan sings them and Andy Fletcher shows up for photo shoots and cashes the checks." Fletcher is the only member of the band who has not received a songwriting credit.
So, maybe he had something like metastatic cancer. I hadn't seen this clip until today when I saw Fletch died. DM said he died of "natural causes" and that's either when you're really old and just die for no known reason or when you've died by the natural processes of a terminal illness and people don't want to disclose the illness.
The 5 live gig was a promo for the Spirit album release hence no old tracks. Peter Gordino is the additional keyboard player although I think he's a poor replacement for Wilder. I grew up with DM as my soundtrack but these days I think they've gone to the dogs somewhat. Time to call it a day imo.
I seen them at The Hydro in 2013 and they finished the set with Just Can't Get Enough, I think they finish most gigs these days with it, at their age it's probably a nostalgia thing, "Our entire journey started with this track" type of thing, they probably see it as a cheesy pop song but I think they enjoy playing it
@@wednesdayfan272 I just checked, they played it 3rd last, I knew they played it around the finish lol They actually ended with Never Let Me Down, the arm waving thing was some spectacle in person

Radio 4 just described him as a founding member and the..."keyboard player".

Aw fck.... R.I.P Fletch.

RIP Fletch. Legend. X
I’ve always wondered what Fletch did too. Wilder did tons - they aren’t the same since he left. My guess is Fletch gets £1.50 per concert.
Won't do characters from Limmy Show but gets upset when a band doesn't play all of their old tunes
See what you did!!!??
RIP Fletch
Just can't get it up :(
Yes it’s the bouncy floor, bands have said it looks great from the stage when everyone is jumping 👌🏼
Depish mode lol
Lol
You should see the Simon Amstell 'Big Ones' interview of Depeche Mode. Fletch was funny in that.
Wow! You were right about him not being well, when he took that bow in particular. RIP fletch.

Still haven't forgiven them for their treatment of Alan Wilder.

Was Vince Clarke?

Damn you were right
Dave Ghandi
The lead singer looks like Ben kingsley ( oh Limmy agrees )
If you would like to react to an artist you might not have heard of, I recommend Aesthetic Perfection with Bark at the Moon
Great band. Didn't know they were gay.
They're not. You are.

I didn't write that as a diss. I was just surprised.
