I’m a big guy shopping for a first kayak and your videos sold me. Great reviews bud! OldTown better sponsor you on the next tourney... wish ya tight lines!
I have the same kayak and I’ve been looking for a setup and ideas like the one you have! Awesome job on rigging it out! Look forward to the individual reviews🤞🏻
I'm trying to decide between this and the Slayer Max 10. They both have pros and cons. I do wish this came with a cover for the drive hole like the Slayer for when your paddling, but other than that the Old Town is a nice boat. Unfortunately there is no side by side comparisons that i've seen. Great overview and tight lines!
Man that Slayer's nice too. It's a bit more money and almost 2" narrower. I've been looking at the OT 106, probably going with the Sportsman 106. Did you get one yet?
Nice video. I have a 106pdl on order. Where is your whistle? Hang a big orange one on your pdf to help the new anglers know what they need for safety and the law.
Sup gramps. WOW that kayak is like a mini bass boat! Loaded. Do you do online tournaments? My friend has a custom pontoon boat for fishing that I can get on, we want to do an online tournament, goes by regions, from Friday to Sunday 24/7. Think it's lucky go fishing? Ty tc
You will definitely want an anchor. I use one from Da Bomb anchor company. You can use a small kettlebell or dumbell as well. An Anchor Wizard will be your best friend or you can add an anchor trolley kit to the side. I will be doing a beginner kayak series very soon.
Torn between the 106 or the 120. I'm 6'3 330lbs. Can't decide which one with pedal drive. I like the Idea of a shorter kayak to throw in the back of the truck. Any suggestions on your experience. Mostly Coastal area and some lake/river use. Thank you (Great Video!)
I’m 5’9”, 245 lbs and just got the 106 PDL. I think if I were you I would buy the 120 PDL. You will have more room in it and it will be a little faster than the 106. You will need the longer boat to go faster with the same effort. The 106 PDL will be much slower for you and you probably won’t be impressed with it. Look at the 120 Predator, it might fit you perfectly.
About that 3d print replacement console for the pedal drive. Any info to pass on for that? It's there a website? I've looked but haven't been able to find any.
I am looking to buy a 2019 top water 106 old and I was told that they lead around the pdl and the scuppers don't drain if you're a heavier guy, and I am lol. Have you had that problem? Thanks I like your videos.
I don't worry about my feet getting wet and never really pay attention to it. My scuppers drain just fine, but again, it's just not something I think about, so I guess there can't be that much water in their. I will make point to aim the camera more as I'll be fishing a month long kayak charity tournament in April.
Hello sir this was a very good video you did of your set up for tournaments. I like your kayak I am trying to upgrade to the same one that you had. You have just answered one of my questions. I have big very very wide feet sz15 6 EEEEEE with very fat wide toe that Equity straight across making it for a very very wide foot. There's no shoe , sock , or boot that will fit my wide foot so I have to kayak barefooted 👣. Do you know is it easy to Pedal barefooted 👣 and Are the pedals on the kayak pretty wide and how hard is it to change them. One more question? You mentioned the pedals turn up the Crocs? Would the pedals do the same thing to flip flops too. Flip flops is the only thing that will fit me which I can barely fit my foot because my foot is wider than the flip flop straps so this is why I kayak barefooted👣 because it's hard to find a flip flop that's wide enough for a foot that 6 1/2 inches wide. I'm very interesting in buying this kayak. It really sucks having very very wide feet fat wide toes. It's been stopped me from buying a lot of kayak I've been looking at. I apologize for being so long. Again great video thank you for sharing your video.
@@FishinwithGRAMPS oh okay are the stock pedals pretty wide and do you need any special tools to take the pedals off or is it just like taking a regular bike pedal off. My best friend I grew up with said he can trace my foot and possibly weld me some custom pedals so I can pedal barefooted 👣. It is so embarrassing to have very wide feet with fat wide toe like this. I really do appreciate your advice sir.
@@FishinwithGRAMPS okay so I guess I will go ahead and go precious this kayak and call my buddy so he can custom-make those wide foot pedals for me . I really do appreciate your help and advice sir. Thank you so much. You and your family have a merry Christmas and be safe if you travel anywhere.
yup, go watch the Heroes on the Water videos and you'll understand how it got so filthy as I fought to win the tournament with changing conditions and an competitor from Ohio breathing down my neck to knock me out of first place 😎

loving this bad boy so far, can't wait til spring!
Got mine 2 weeks ago and took it out to test it..Better than i imagined..just gotta get past the april winds on the texas gulf coast..
Enjoy!

@@FishinwithGRAMPS what size bungee did you use for the bump board ?
I think it's an 8 inch. Ketch makes a holder now you can attach to the yak that i will be installing when it warms up.
Great run down I've been thinking what to get to get out on the water this my be a option for me
Sweet rig brother! 👊💪
Thanks TJ! Just picked up something yesterday I am naming the "BackSaver", lol
I havent fishrd any tourneys with my yak but I like your set up. Good stuff!
thanks!
Awsome set up love it great job
Nice set up well though out
i need to do my year review, love this yak!
bought mine in september, looking to rig my kayak up for a tourney in April! thanks for the vid!

Bought one for cheap from a guy who guides with Old Town yaks. Makes a TON of stuff no one thinks about.

I've been looking at the same kayak. How comfortable is the Seat and is the peddle drive hard on the legs? Great video.
Be sure to watch my initial and one year review videos. I discuss my back and knee disabilities and why this Sportsman is so great for "FISHercizing"

Its in the bag with the TP, good point tho!
Awesome video! I have the same kayak I love the pedals! Was it easy to switch out?!
oh yeah, real easy
Just got into kayak fishing and love the videos/my Old Town! Any recommendations on a decent phone holder that would fit the side tracks?
I always keep mine on a leash in my PFD, but may look at some options and see what I come up with

Where do you keep the fish that catch at? Thanks for the video!
take their picture, put back in water
Im a newbie that Just picked up a PDL 106. What do you use for an anchor? Is it necessary for lake bass fishing?

Where's the kitchen sink? LOL Seriously, you've done a good job gearing up for fishing efficiency.
lol, mine is pretty minimal compared to the big time tournament guys ;)

well, I'm 5'7 so I think the 120 would probably fit you better, along with a bed extender should suit you well.

@@FishinwithGRAMPS clutch! Thank you sir!
do you think adding a trolling motor will give you an edge on those tournaments?
most definitely, but I'm just fishing them for fun. My super competitive try hard tournament days are long in the past.

What size crate did you get. The XD or smaller? I have a 106 pdl and want the XD crate but am not sure it will fit.
i got the big one with 6 rod holders
What do you use to transport your top water from your truck to the water?
I use a Wilderness cart if I can't get right next to the water. amzn.to/2NzHaCp
Where do you stow fish you catch?
you can drop on a stringer, in a basket or bucket. If I'm fishing to eat em, I'll take the Lowe instead.

I would probably stick with the stock pedals in your case, or find some wide bike pedals that were smooth for bare feet
