One of my favorite songs, now with one of my favorite musicians and vocalists.

Andrew Marlin singing Norman Blake's "Billy Gray." Just beautiful. Very strong. Somehow the gentleman who made the appearance brings this beautiful tune, and Andrew, down to earth and home for me.

I was lucky enough (smart?) to see Norman Blake a few times. Andrew et al play it beautifully.

Glad you enjoyed it Ray! Check out Watchhouse, Andrew's main band.

And I'd suggest you search for Christian Sedelmyer (fiddler) and Jerry Douglas' Band, with whom he plays. Can't go wrong there, also searching for Mandolin Orange, previous name of band with Andrew, Emily Frantz, Josh Oliver, Clint Mullican. Fine people/great musicians all IMHO, bringing much joy.
FWIW Watchhouse & Christian are "fixtures" at GMBR (Green Mountain Bluegrass & Roots Festival) in Manchester VT 18-20 Aug 2023. Cya there!

I first heard Tony Rice Unit sing this at a festival. Choked me up eventually led me to buying Normans record.

Emily needs some time off to care for young Ruby. IMO too, absolutely first-rate talent, really complementing Andrew. Besides a lovely lady. We're so lucky.

Interesting, I'm sure this the right way to do it and I'm an ABSOLUTE blasphemer, but the version I was taught on my guitar was at 1.5% speed, I liked it because it up-tempo and catchy, I struggle hearing the correct and proper versions now LOL

Which version do you like best? I'm a sucker for most laid-back versions myself.

@@kenbrown5449 Aah! Well, to clarify first just in case, I mean that the version I learnt was *as if* you play *this* video at 1.5x in the video settings, but I actually learnt it from an old guy at an Irish session I used to go to here in the UK, and obviously songs change as they travel from person to person, especially, I feel, in folk music, so this friend's upbeat tempo was what I landed on and is the version I carry on. But to answer your question, I don't really have a standout favourite, but with a UK/Irish background, I'd probably give it to Christy Moore/Planxty

@@patrickhannon4217 lol! No problem here brother. One of the great things about music is it can change depending on people and locations. Take care!
