When you touched that coat hook in the hut I had a flashback to the 1980's and my schooldays. I remember another pupil bending a coat hook back and forth until it snapped. Amazing what the brain keeps stored, even if that memory was not accessed for almost 40 years. Great vid. 👍
What's mad is a read this and wondered how old you are and then realised you're likely just a couple of years older than me 😆🤪 Gawd, how did that happen. I want to complain.
I was there last February and it’s amazing how quickly the undergrowth is taking over. Considering Network Rail own the track up to the viaduct, to run a weedkiller train once a year to the quarry would be beneficial. I have also travelled this line in 2013 when it was owned by Dartmore Railway, sad to see its decline, if only the Government would reopen the line to Tavistock from Okehampton, not only would it be an alternative route to Plymouth again but open up rural Devon again to the villages that lost their public transport facilities in the late 60’s.
The crazy thing is, this is infrastructure (of sorts) still in situ, not demolished & built over so could still be reactivated if the politicians could get their act together
I used to live in the area but moved away in 1994. It’s a great shame that the line has deteriorated so much since closure of the quarry. In an ideal world we would be seeing the reopening of this line as a diversionary route to Plymouth. Alas in our current society it will never happen.

nice explore!! thanks for this!!
When that was a preserved line i used to able to see the puff puff of smoke from my house.
Hard to believe I rode this line in the spring of 1996!
I walk this track regularly. What a shame. Was immaculate some this ago. Tradition has unfortunately gone.

Could this be made into an heritage railway?
Very very unlikely.

It’s a shame this has all been abandoned . 👍👍👍👍
Up to the quarry not down to.
On the railways up is normally to the main station ie London or on some branch lines ti the main station. So you go down to Okehampton from Exeter
Never to be renewed lost forever
Much like the rest of the UK. Looks pretty much the same just duller.
Just the places full of Muzzers 🤮
