I am so amazed with this! The animation is beautiful! Can I give a crack at the story? So in this little town/village/organization of people, they worship a big god that they have to sacrifice people to. Now, this little girl is the purest thing in the world. She's kind, caring, and over all, a good person. When she runs past the church, a church leader tells her to go inside for a ceremony. (I think they're going to sacrifice someone) and she refuses and walks away. She then saves another kid from being crushed by a falling wall and wakes up dead. A personification of the same church leader points towards a crack in the floor (a gate way to hell) drags her over to it, then throws her into hell. What I think this means, is that, no matter how good of a person you are, the church (and god in general) doesn't care. They don't care if you do good in life or anything, your first priority it preying and giving yourself over to them. So you can kiss your ticket to heaven goodbye if you don't prey to them. So that means, the sweetest little girl, the kindest in the town, went to hell because she didn't worship a god. It shows that religion only cares for your worship and money, not the good in you. So, in a way, is this showing your views on religion? (I'm pretty positive that explanation of the video was bias as hell because I have a strong opinion about religion and my tiredness only fuels that fire XD)
Hahaha. I'm amazed you got it almost perfectly! Since I come from a very religious country in general, not a lot of people understood what I was trying to say with my thesis. Even the people who were grading me, though they liked it and gave me a great grade, still later told me/Insisted that their god is real. This entire thing was something that was inspired by my own experiences. I was never religious... I stopped believing pretty early (and what to me felt natural), like most kids stop believing in Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. I believe in being good for the sake of being good, because I like being good. I like helping people etc. I think it;s important to be a good person and I didn't feel like I needed the threat of hell or promise of heaven to want to be good. I went to a Catholic school in a mostly Catholic country. I had to often hide that I was an Atheist, but when I do reveal what I am; I always get questions like "Then where do you get your morals?" As if I can't have morals without religion. If not something like that I get told straight out I'm going to hell... What hurts more is they act like they fear for my fate like they genuinely believe that I'll go to hell. Like I somehow deserve it because its what their god says. Now, I don't believe in a heaven or hell, but knowing what hell means to them... It hurt that no matter how good a person I want to be, being non-religious immediately has even the nicest people condemning you to "eternal damnation". It's like I could strive to be a good person all my life, but because I don't praise their god, I'm never going to be someone worthy in their eyes.
kjbionicle I feel the same way. I've grown up with very non religious parents so naturally I'm not religious XD I always had good morals as well because I didn't need a "prize or curse" like heaven or hell to guide my actions. In a way, I believe in Karma. I do believe that being good is rewarded in the smallest and best ways. Not like candy or money or a ticket to "heaven" but with the smiles and thanks you get from the people you helped. When I was very little, I was kind of proud of the fact that I was not religious. I lost that pride pretty quickly when others kids started scolding me and saying that they were worried if I'd go to heaven or not. I even had a girl, that was once my friend, scream at me that I was going to hell. It really affected me when I asked my teacher if because I didn't believe in god, if I was a bad person. Of course she said I wasn't but when I was lunch a lot of people talked to me about it. These few girls were really worried and said stuff like "like I needed to believe in god so I could go to heaven like the rest of my class mates" I felt guilty about it and started crying when I couldn't face my teacher when he was greeting us when we went outside. He sat with me and told me that even though we believed in different things, we were both good people. He said he believed that everyone should be treated like brothers and sisters. (He was a very religious man as I came to find out but he was also a very good man.) that changed me a lot. That's why today, when someone asks me why I don't believe in god I say that they can believe what they believe and I will believe what I like to believe. It usually ends there but if they get annoying I'll tell them XD I don't know what it is but I've also stopped labeling myself as a "atheist" or a "pantheistic" or a "agnostic". I don't see the need for people to label me as one of them. People have asked me many times what I believe in and I tell them the truth. I don't believe in god. I believe in being a good person. They always then ask "are you an atheist?" And I used to say yes. Actually, I used to label myself as atheist, pantheist, and agnostic. (Agnostic being the most recent) I've seen many people judge others based on asking their religion or beliefs. They believe that once you know what religion they believe or what god they worship, they know how they act. "Oh all agnostics are in decisive idiots" "oh all atheists are cold hearted scientists" "oh all muslims under the Kouran (did I spell that right) are violent" "oh all christens are thieves" Some of these accusations have come out of my own parents' mouths! I don't judge people on if their agnostic, atheists, worship the kouran, or are christens, I judge them on how they act. HECK! My friend is Mormon and our beliefs couldn't be anymore opposite (well except for being a good person) I just think we need to stop judging a person on their religion before we know the person. Thank you so much for responding and telling me about your beliefs. I love sharing these things with people :D I'm happy that I was correct about the explanation about the video because I was really nervous that I may have offended you.
No, thank you. It feels refreshing to talk to a person who had similar experiences as me and who understood from the get go what I wanted to say with this short film. :) I also agree very much that we shouldn't use religion to immediately judge a persons character. I understand why you don't prefer to use a label... Nowadays I feel like everything has to have a label, and while I understand the need to identify yourself with something (like I did in high school when I first started using the label 'Atheist'); Labels just end up dividing people and make people come to their own conclusions about the different people under it. Sometimes it becomes more harmful than good. We're all just people. And I agree that sometimes all the reward you need to be good to people, is a smile in return. Far too many people forget the power that a smile can have. :)
kjbionicle It was refreshing for me as well talking to someone who understands what I stand for and believe. I don't have a lot of friends that do (though I still love them to death) so it's always nice to talk to nice people online. I can't wait for further animations and animatics from you :D you have an awesome art style and your work is always beautiful (I've watched all of your videos already) Have a good day/night or whatever time zone you're in :D
BreezZana I'm sorry but I belive that you are wrong in your veiws on religion. You see although it does not really matter how good a person you are as you said, church (if they are doing right by God) shouldn't only be after your money. They shouldn't want anything from you more than to introduce you to God. I understand where your coming from as a good majoraty of Churches nowadays don't even include Jesus into anything (which upsets me to no end) so I can totally see how you don't like churches. But I think that if you don't see what church is even for or that churches are doing there jobs wrong, try to get to know God through the bible and praying (he'll take you to the right church). And as far as worship goes it isn't just a song or a dance (I know because God wants everyone to worship and I can't sing or dance) it's simply loving God. oh and praying doesn't have to be elaberate or anything just talk to God, He'll hear you no matter what you say.
This is amazing! I can't believe I just found it. The backgrounds are incredible and so soft and detailed. The colors are also super gorgeous. This is a new level of quality
