I’d personally put life drain at S, I almost always use it in mage playthroughs as damage and life regen can just stack up to absurd numbers, it’s also incredibly useful when grinding for a RoD.
Yeah, a couple people have told me my error now, and I definitely agree the life drain is closer to an S or low A. I actually plan to make a video on it soon.

I agree. For Queen Slime specifically, it makes the fight way easier than it already is (although, I must admit she gave me a lot of trouble in Master Mode, but I was playing Melee, so maybe that's why). Plus, while its single-target damage isn't on par with some of the best pre-mech Mage weapons (mainly looking at Spirit Flame), it's pretty easy to get consistent damage with it, and I usually use this to kill Duke Fishron pre-mechs when I play Mage.
wand of sparking is actually pretty good early game if you can get one. it pierces, it causes the on-fire debufff, has a ridiculous high base crit chance for an early weapon, and it's easy on the mana. definitely a high-tier weapon.

The phasesaber is literally a side-grade of the Night's Edge, but is locked further beyond more progression
They used to be available in prehardmode console when arch demons had a chance to drop crystal shards.
Nights edge is pretty much the same but smaller

The combat wrench is an amazing weapon. It can be obtained after skeletron, deals decent dmg, has can pierce one time, and is a weapon that deals meele dmg and gives range. Because most meele weapons don't shoot projectiles in pre-hardmode and early hardmore, having this weapon can really helps, especially in the WoF fight. I think it can be a solid B or at the bottom of A tier, since it can basically carry the hardest part of the game for meele.
But you have to murder the poor redhead several times to get it.
@@Michael-fw9xb You could just accidently get it during like an invasion or boss fight. You know, the times when your NPC's are dying.
I just discovered it yesterday when i was in the dungeon to save the mechanic and as soon as i saved her she died and dropped it

I agree with you on the massive drawback of the Venus Magnum, but as a mobile player it would go to S tier for me. Mobile generously gives an opportunity for auto attack for a lot of weapons, Venus Magnum being one of them. That makes it an Direct upgrade to Megashark, both in damage and speed
Plus, even on the pc, you can just use an autoclicker to make it basically an autofire.
Will need to be on the lookout for it whenever 1.4.4 comes out, then. IIRC a general "autofire" option was confirmed to be upcoming on PC for accessibility reasons. Venus Magnum should be S tier there as well once the update finally rolls around.

It’s also great if you have the Omni swing mod for modded play throughs (you can probably guess what it does) but yeah, the damage on the Venus is actually bonkers if used at full potential
Correction: The blowgun is actually post-queen bee, the witch doctor sells it at all times, not just hardmode.
The Falcon blade being available at the beginning of the game is what makes it appealing. I personally always pick this up regardless of what build I'm doing because it's got nice speed combined with the auto swing
The phase sabour was actually really good in the 3ds version of terraria because there were arch demons that dropped crystal shards meaning you could use it pre hardmode
For the combat wrench
I find it to be pretty useful at times, while it is outclassed by many other weapons the combat wrench has more piercing abilities unlike other boomerangs which just come back to you after hitting a enemy
So it counts as pretty solid weapon against the wall of flesh or groups of enemies
But the downsides are that it is a post skeletron item which by that point you can already the nights edge and obtaining the weapon can be annoying
So I would put it around B tire

Yeah, this is one of the rankings i wasn't as proud of looking back on the video. I think a b tier is pretty solid for the weapon given its pros and cons. Also I appreciate your interest in my channel and its future!
@@cranberries24 curious, how is keybrand even close to the top of the list? IMO it is too punishing for the contact role it plays. You just take too much damage from using it.
@@rabeechowdhury It really depends on how you play melee. If you go for a more tanky build the keybrand is definitely viable, but 1. You really have to go out of your way for it to work and 2. There are better options with less setup. As you can tell from all the readjustments, the tier list wasn't all too polished, and this weapon is no different, so I'd probably put it at c tier.
@@cranberries24 I mean, Keybrand is one of the highest tier true melee weapons, near Starlight and 1.4.4 True Excalibur, so I guess thats something that makes it high as well, there aren’t many competitors at the same category.
@@murartu737 I hadn;t considered true melee to be a 'class', but if you do, then i can see keybrand being the best in its class and therefore an A tier.
Quad-barrel shotgun is actually very good, despite the efficient range being extremely short. It shoots a lot, so it's VERY strong at close range. That's a ranged weapon that can save you at a close range, just like other shotguns, but with a higher damage.
blood thorn is an amazing thing to go after if you have a bloody tear left over from pre hardmode. it does good damage good against events and honestly does pretty well against the steel worm
Life drain is the best weapon in this list by a long margin, and it's also the best HM pre-boss magic weapon ever. Also the combat wrench is the only boomerang that's worth your while having double the DPS of the lousy enchanted boomerang by virtue of penetrating one enemy and hitting it back on the the return
Wouldn't say its the best since most of its jobs Can be done with other weapons
@@olixx1213 did you see "In The list"? None of the other weapons In this list other then crystal vile shard have it's crowd control and life drains dps and range is better then viles. Heck an decent amount of the weapons at it's stage don't have it's crowd control and it's easy too get. Plus extra regeneration is nice

@@olixx1213 well he said the best weapon in the list and also I forgot to say, most weapons till post plantera can't do its job as well. The only weapons I can think of is super star cannon and rainbow rod.
I have a soft spot for the Breaker Blade as it was my main weapon at one point. Combined with the Magma Stone it was really fun to use despite my preference for faster weapons

When I went mage I thought ice rod was alright. It's a good mage weapon for early hard mode until you get other hard mode magic weapons.
The ruler isn’t useful itself, but it is a material used to craft the Grand Design, which is essential when mining or wiring.
i am a quad barrel shotgun stan, i cant make a good argument for using it, i just genuinely love it
ice rod can do quite the shenanigans against queen slime
I remember buying the ice rod for 1 platinum then accidentally "place" a block on a chest and then the chest duplicated

The Venus magnum with chlorophyte bullets kinda slaps. When you don’t have to worry about aiming you can spam as fast as you want, and it does pretty good damage too.
If I found a wand of sparking, I'd like to imagine it as a early game flamethrower so I'm still exited when seeing one.
Blowgun is pre-hardmode, sold by the witch doctor straight after he moves in. Great vid btw, you definitely deserve considerably more attention

@@cranberries24 also, it is actually the best weapon you can use when you enter hardmode, there are 3 hardmode darts in this game all of which are extremely good, crystal darts in particular for mobbing, try crystal dart with blowgun in early hardmode, you only need 1+ crystal shards destroyed and bam
Great video, tho i have some objections to your list.
1. Blow pipe can shoot darts, which makes it quite good early hardmode weapon
2. Considering that machete can be acquired from the start of your playthrough it's a decent early game choice for melee playthroughs(although too rng reliant)
3. Keybrand is awful, it's a no projectile post-plantera sword, if its hitbox was at least 2 times bigger it would've been ok.
The keybrand's terrible, but has fucking insane single target damage, without any buffs, on a very damaged enemy, it can deal like 700 damage
u can also get blowgun pre-hardmode as well

I have to place the falcon blade at probably A tier. It has a great swing speed and it autoswings without the feral claws, and does I think 27 base damage. It comes from iron crates, which can be fished immediately. Falcon blade takes your spear or wooden sword wielding character and turns them into a damage powerhouse. In a hardcore or master mode playthrough, it is invaluable, since it can be obtained without fighting anything. Even in a normal playthrough, it is powerful and will likely be your best in slot melee weapon until you can craft a late pre-hardmode sword, since it is so fast.
The quad barrel shotgun used to be so overpowered... Then they made is post-skeletron

I think combat wrench deserves higher just because it pierces, that thing helped a lot against the wall of flesh in my boomerang only playthrough.
Wand of sparking gets hate for literally no reason, its such a strong preboss weapon to carry you until diamond staff, even then its better to use against normal enemies than the diamond staff.
Keybrand is A imo, purely due to it being a phenomenal dungeon weapon right after plantera for getting tabi/blackbelt, ectoplasm. The only reason I wouldnt put it at S is because it's TRUE melee so it struggles in open spaces

Ice rod is so fun as an actual person. You're basically playing Fortnite and building around your enemies as you shoot at them
Every "bad weapon" has a gimik that makes them better than most others, like a power increse after set enemy was hit 2 times

Boomerang-only players on expert:
I had no idea anyone actually disliked the QB shotgun. Like, sure, it’s situational, but it’s VERY good against big bosses, especially those with a lot of segments. It’s especially good against wall of flesh if you use meteor bullets.

I think it's a little overshadowed by the mimic dart guns which is it's main problem to begin with
@@Vitamin_R the blowgun is available from the witch doctor at all times, which makes it a pre-hardmode weapon. While the blowgun isn't used in typical terraria speedruns because killing queen bee and getting witch doctor takes too long, the blowpipe certainly is whenever you get lucky enough to find one. When paired with ichor darts and fired from a specific range it can significantly out-DPS the hallowed repeater against the mechanical bosses certain cases, despite being obtainable from wood chests and being a direct downgrade from the blowgun. The only thing that holds back the blowpipe+ichor dart combo is that enemies with high defense (i.e. destroyer, skeletron when his head spins, and every required post-mech boss) take much less damage, but the blowgun has much higher base damage, so it might work fine against skeletron, destroyer, and even plantera. I haven't tested it myself, but it's probably worth a look. Either way, the blowgun is easily A, or even S tier considering it's insane damage potential in hardmode despite being a post-queen bee weapon.
i don't use the ice rod for fighting enemies. . . i just use the ice blocks when I'm building something in the air
I am surprised that people really consider crystal vile shard a BAD weapon. Like, WTF?! It is a must-have when you play as a mage. It is useful even when I was in the master mode FTW world. Let me say it in this way: Few weapons that can go through the block can be considered bad.

Zombie arm is a good weapon that I got early (prob lucky) on my first run, it carried me through EoC and Skeleton pretty well even in expert mode
i never knew people didn’t like the venus magnum. i’ve always loved it
Blowgun is easily a minimum B-tier...and here's why. It is the easiest Hardmode ranged weapon to get...and the ammunition it fires can be crafted without a HM anvil. This is especially important in a corruption world as Cursed Darts are absurdly broken for most of the game. Yes...it is immediately outclassed by either the Dart Pistol or the Dart Rifle...but they require you to farm shitloads of souls or get lucky with enemy spawns...for an enemy that is a notorious asshole in early hardmode. Farming 2-3 cursed flames for 200-300 darts, when you can already launch them, makes these fights a LOT easier. The Blowgun is literally at a different progression point than the Dart Pistol/Rifle (it's an admittedly small relative hurdle, but still). So...if it were me giving out these ratings, the Blowgun would be A-tier relative to progression in Corruption worlds and B-tier (progression) in Crimson worlds.
I’d like to point out that on mobile, everything has autofire, so there goes the one downside of venus magnum

Breaker blade got me through a good part of pre mech calamity melee
The slime staff can be used for extremely efficient afk coin farming, so I'd put it in high a tier. The coin gun is fun but would be difficult to play around with without an ark coin farm
I personally love the combat wrench, I didn’t know it existed until I was playing and the mechanic died in the dungeon. I pretty much only used it for the rest of the dungeon because it’s that good in tight spaces
on my most recent terraria playthroughs with one of my friends we were struggling with the eater of worlds and i ended up fighting it solo with the wand of sparking alone and beat it easilt

I don’t remember how it worked but I remember some old damage bug exploit or whatever on the ice rod I used too do on the 360.
Afaik, every weapon in Terraria will be autoswing come the next update. Hopefully that will include guns too. I know from Calamity that autofire Phoenix Blaster is an S tier weapon, arguably the best gun before the Megashark.
Venus Magnum on the other hand also becomes a straight upgrade from the Megashark too (though I think Calamity prioritises High Velocity over any other bullet type which makes it actual garbage)
I think that the category of "worst weapons" could really include a lot more; is the weapon worth getting relative to its point in progression + ease of access? But then again, most of the weapons in Terraria would be on that list.

The blowgun is post-bee, not hardmode. It is actually very usable with the right darts.
I disagree with the combat wrench it should be higher but otherwise it's a good list.
unless my information is outdated, i believe the slime staff is really good at afk money farming with the lucky coin since it hits enemies a lot while barely actually killing them
I actually hadn't known that. That might move the ranking up to an A tier retrospectively, or at least a higher B tier.
for me ice staff is a must-get. it makes dealing with any enemy that cant pass throu walls trivial , gives you something of unlimited flight , deals decent damage with really nice speed , and comboes with every stormbow of thorn type weapon. + it is esential for building floating structures. i cannot understand why it is so unloved.
also sparkwand is a must have for a true mage early game. good debuff and easyest to get.
and lifedrain is great for crowd controll , metagating mages low defence by healtankinng a bit , and for hitting evasive grownd targets throu a wall.
I guess I fit into the category of sweaty bedwars player because the Venus Magnum is an S tier ranged weapon for me
Fast-firing guns with no auto-use are underrated. Handgun, Phoenix Blaster, Venus Magnum, these are underrated. They are very strong if you actually have the skill to click fast and consistently, which is not too hard if you try it, and they demolish enemies easily. I absolutely obliterated Wall of Flesh in expert mode very fast with the Phoenix Blaster
Also, the Slime Staff is a very good weapon if you got it in the very beginning, and it's much stronger than the finch staff
Blowgun is an unironic S+ tier. It is actually obtained anytime in pre-hm after defeating queen bee. It does fair damage while in pre-hm when using poison darts, but this weapon really shines in hardmode. In a lot of speedruns, if you are lucky enough to find a blowpipe, the blowgun's direct downgrade, and then use ichor collected when farming souls to craft ichor darts, you can out-DPS the hallowed repeater against the mech bosses. The blowpipe doesn't work against destroyer, skeletron when his head is spinning, and is ineffective against plantera+every boss that follows because its base damage is too low to pierce their defense. However, the blowgun has 27 base damage instead of the blowpipe's 9. While I haven't tested it, the blowgun should work against all mechs, plantera, and even golem despite being a pre-hm weapon and using ammo from the beginning of hardmode.

Yeah, it's something that I've made use of a lot, and it was no doubt an s tier. It's just such a unique weapon.
Your ranking of the combat wrench was a bit of a bad take. Like, the ability to pierce is HUGE on a boomerang.
Not only does it guarantee two hits on basic enemies, effectively doubling its damage per use when its damage is already better than the majority (if not entirety, I can’t quite recall) of pre-hardmode boomerangs, but it also singlehandedly makes wall of flesh possible on boomerang-only runs.
Life Drain was a mainstay in my last mage playthrough, used it for 90% of hardmode (pretty much just up until I got the Razorblade Typhoon, and even then I kept it around for grinding)

Copper shortsword is a material for zenith but it is a starter weapon:B for copper SS
I think that th wand of sparking is really good as a first mage weapon. I mean., does a status effect, better damge than the first gem wands, and is obtainable immidietly.
wand of sparkaling is actually really god if you get it much early game. you can fire life 4 shot off one mana star
Life drain shouldn't be on this tier list. It has really good crowd control, improves survivability and is one of the best mage weapons for the destroyer.
I like life steal because you can kill enemies through 1 tile blocks with it.
Somebody beat the game with a copper shortsword so it’s an easy s tier. Honestly it’s like a post moonlord weapon in pre hardmode

These weapons arent bad, we just dont know when or how to use them.
I don't know what the community's view on the Flare Gun is, but I know it's certainly helpful for me in the early game! It may not deal a lot of damage, but being able to ignite swarms of enemies is pretty dang helpful imo!

My tier list (how good they are at they're stage of the game
S life drain
A ice rod, quad barrel shotgun, combat wench
B Venus magnam, crystal vile shard, keybind, blood thorn thing, wand of sparking(well in the very early game it can beat king slime and eoc)
C blood knife thing, breaker blade, slime staff(coin farms etc.), The blowgun upgrade I've forgot about
D all of the true meele swords that are left other then copper short sword and pearlwood boardsword
F it's kinda obvious though copper short sword should prob be S as it does 64738#63848647393937489495748 damage however it's so short it's pokes yourself.

I killed a crimson mimic literally twenty seconds into hardmode and the life drain carried most of my hardmode experience

Life drain is fantastic, so is ice rod, wand of sparking is pretty good, pearlwood stuff is utter garbage useless and should not exist, breaker blade and key brand are pretty good, blowgun could have been better, ruler could have been better, blood thorn could have been better, quad barrel shotgun could have been better, Venus magnum is ok, vile shard is good, combat wrench is ok, phaseblade and Phasesaber s could have been better, falcon blade is bad, slime staff is very moderately ok but is not worth it, and copper short sword is GOD TIER

In one of the most recent spoilers we got the autofire functionality, isn't the venus magnum going to be massively buffed from that?
I'm interested to see what terraria will do with this weapon with the autofire functionality. Because this weapon's special thing is being a manual fire weapon that can basically fire as fast as you can click, which is really an interesting weapon, and I'd be a proponent to keep it having manual fire. But if they did give it auto fire, then I'm wondering how fast it would fire, since it seems a little bit op to keep the same fire rate possibilities and have auto fire, so they'd have to nerf the fire power. Overall, I would probably just keep the weapon as it is, but it's Relogic's choice and we'll have to see.

Yeah, I think that's why a lot of people dont like playing it. Honestly if relogic added a few more melee weapons to fill some of the voids that melee has it would become a lot more viable.
