  • The white stork is the only large European bird that has attached itself to human beings. These elegant-looking birds build their nests on roofs and chimneys and are held by people to be lucky and feature in fables where they are said to bring babies. People generally like storks and the village of Rühstädt, known as “Europe’s Stork Village”, profits from bird-loving tourism. March through August, when the migrating storks return from Africa, is high season in “Storkville”. The storks have a mere hundred days or so to meet up, breed and raise their young.
But the struggles of stork life largely go unnoticed by the tourists. In reality, the storks fight with rapier beaks over possession of their nests, destroy other storks’ clutches of eggs, and are at the mercy of the weather around the clock. Rain, heat and predators reduce the number of chicks, and at the first sign of sickness, the weakest chicks are thrown out of the nest by their parents. The villagers often step in with a helping hand.
For a whole summer, the camera tracks the storks’ lives on the rooftops and in the surrounding fields, capturing unusual and often surprising images from the storks’ private lives and their fight for survival.

After watching the movie "Storks" I came across this documentary as I tried to get the animated movie on UA-cam lol. Such a fascinated life of storks. Blessings to the village of Germany who give such care to these creatures. And yes, everyone benefits once we know how to give and take and live together: man and birds

The Ottoman even built a foundation for protecting animals including storks. They built Stork Hospital in Bursa in the 19th century to treat storks injured while on their seasonal journey back and forth

pretty sure I am going to be considered by many here to be 'evil' but doesn't this upset the balance when people intervene so animals that would otherwise die (per nature) or are these birds threatened somehow?

For some critters who are going to live where they choose; sometimes it's better to help them as opposed to letting them destroy an area. Cooperating and not being annoyed. There are bands on all the adults.

Well, don't us human get help everyday when we cant afford to live ? Social welfare, orphans, volunteers all help each other to survive in this world?

    • @cherylsterrenburg2186

just saying that although we humans are compelled (well, some of the time) to help each other out (as well as animal) unless the animals need help due to human overcrowding etc - we should let nature be nature

It saddens me how the parent kills the week baby. I’m sure their is a reason such a food shortage or disease yet still none the less sad.

I have been studying White Storks for years and this is my honest take on the bird.
The white stork is one of the most evil animals on Earth. They will torture their young for days before finally killing it, and in the most brutal, sadistic manor. Even eat their offspring dead and/or alive.
If both parents are gone from a nest, the neighbor stork will stop over and kill the storklets in the most insane violent bloody massacre you have ever witnessed. One of the most, if not the most disturbing thing you would ever see in your life.

I saw a short clip of them doin that evil act, that's how I end up here wanting to know more and why? And made me wonder why did people chose them to symbolize baby delivery? Lol
