It's because there's no gyms for adult hobbyists. The only wrestling gyms around are schools or camps for competitors. I'd love to do wrestling at a wrestling but I'd only be a hobbyist so instead I do wrestling at a bjj gym.
Thats very true. It's mainly children's programs that are government funded. It's very similar in Eastern Europe. Thats why since I've moved in UK I have started a wrestling program thats open to adults too. And we run 2 wrestling competitions every year open to senior and veterans too. Thanks for the support 🙏
It would be nice if enough people wanted to start a wrestling gym open to adults. I still talk to some of my friend from my high school wrestling team. Some of them have tried BJJ, but I think wrestling is more accessible because of it being a high school and college sport.
I found a Greco-Roman / Freestyle Wrestling Gym called Academia True Wrestling in Lima,Peru They are hard to find but I have found several legit wrestling schools in Latin America
I wanted to learn wrestling when I was in my early 20s but the local team didn't want to bother teaching me because I was too old. While doing BJJ I met 2 wrestlers, one from San Diego and one from Hungary, and they both tought me a lot about wrestling. Then I was able to join the wrestling team and I actually won a few matches for them in competition. It was a pretty cool experience. Wrestling is awesome!
Wrestling clubs for men exist. I'm in Chicago; Snakepit chapter here CFC gym has Greco days and wrestling for MMA days Gracie Barra Chicago has freestyle night So does Vienna Bros BJJ Some highschool wrestling rooms offer Masters Wrestling classes. I hope this helps anyone reading this 🥋
Wrestling and wrestling workouts were some of the hardest in my life , and yet also the least damaging to my body . Kicking by far did the most . I'm 58 now and need a few surgeries first but I'll get back in . What I've done in the past is just contact gyms even if they are mainly competition based and just straight out ask if they need a rent payer . Meaning charge me a little extra maybe but find some room for me to get in workouts where everybody benefits . Granted I wasn't starting as a beginner but I find most schools can still see value in bringing old people on, in the end it is a business
Wrestling workouts get you in wrestling shape. Same here, ive picked up more injuries from doing BJJ or striking than I ever did from wrestling. Glad to gear you are looking at getting back to training. Well done.
Like others said the biggest obstacle to learning wrestling is that there are no places for adults to learn it. Judo or BJJ? Sure. Wrestling? Nope. Personally I think it's because we scared them away with the singlet. Takes alot of confidence to wear one of those 😆
Thats very true. Unfortunately not many places are offering it to adults. Plus I think, over the years, wrestling has build a very bad reputation of being a very tough/ dangerous sport. And WWE hasn't done us any favours either. When most people hear about wrestling they think fake WWE. Thats why I am doing this. I am on a mission to change that. 😂 I want everyone to do wrestling. Make wrestling great again. I don't think wrestling is any more dangerous than BJJ or Judo. My worst injuries over the years happened while doing BJJ sadly. And yes it does take a lot of confidents to wear singlets😊
I am happy to hear that this video helps. 🙏 My plan in 2025 is to put together an instructional for beginners. Just need to find the time to film it. 🫡
Absolutely, shooting for doubles and singles in ''older'' wrestlers its just an accident waiting to happen. Not only knee injuries, but neck, lower back, ribs etc. Well done for adjusting your game. 🙏 Good approach with the underhook

Correct. It's the same in Eastern Europe were I come from. Because it's an Olympic sport most programs and clubs are subsidised and funded by governments and they are addressed to younger people. I own a club in England and yes, it's mainly addressed to children but we have adult classes twice a week that are very, very popular. Most my students are doing it for fun, to keep fit or because they love wrestling. Do you have a club in your area that offers adult wrestling classes??

Thank you. If you done boxing, wrestling should come naturally to you. It's all about having good foot work, moving a lot, staying inside the ''box'' and having a good stance etc. Exactly what you have probably been working all your life while training boxing. My best adult students are the ones that have been boxing, kickboxing growing up. So try and give wrestling another go, but as I've said in this video, work on learning how to wrestle according to your body type, age, injuries, background etc.
@AchillesWrestlingWorldI’m pretty much the same and now I have my go again at mma, very weak wrestling it’s more about bjj where i’m at, but it’s something lol, you are so uplifting, thank you! 🙏🏻🙌🏻💫

Hi. Yes, thats the plan to film more content this year. But be mindful that most of what I teach on this channel is wrestling for wrestling. And not wrestling for MMA. If that makes sense. Wrestling for MMA is slightly different due to the strikes, chokes plus the cage wall being involved. @AchillesWrestlingWorld Thank you sir, I also search wrestling for mma and wall wrestling techniques and use them in training, I realized learning wrestling for wrestling and basic freestyle wrestling helps a lot to mma wrestling
@AchillesWrestlingWorld If you could create a list of gyms you know around the world where adults can learn olympic wrestling, that would be really valuable. It's the ultimate sport but so hard to access after high school in the USA
Would you recommend submission wrestling (aka no-gi BJJ) or Judo for middle age people? The bending down posture doesn’t look too inviting as you get older.
I think BJJ its worst for lower back injuries than wrestling. Due to inversions, people trying to pass your guard and stacking you up etc. If you are up on your feet make sure in your wrestling stance you use your knees and don't bend down/ forward using your back too much. I love both disciplines (BJJ and Wrestling ) and I practise them both every week, but I always listen to my body. Now I am training in a way that is sustainable for me as I want to still do it in my 80s and 90s.
I practiced wrestling a chair because it has arms and legs and I demonstrated to my friend and took them down very beautifully But before I was totally forcing it and didn’t have the technique down either, this was in an actual fight, it was Pugils but if you drop the sticks anything goes lol anyway Idk I guess practice is important lol
More importantly with good technique Before I would do sprawls and single leg attack penetration step etc etc But didn’t know the mechanisms either human body to make it fall Chair helps with that cause it has arms and legs
Thanks for the sub and keep an eye out. This year I am looking at filming some videos that cover the basics and fundamentals behind most moves like, double leg takedown single leg etc. Hope it will help you in your wrestling journey
