I think that may be what the Velma writers were going for with the new Velma's sarcastic personality. It doesn't sound like they pulled it off, but I'm guessing that's what they were trying to do.
@@as3957 I feel like they went completely the wrong way there. In be cool scooby doo and Scooby doo and guess who I liked her, but in some of the later films to me her skepticism made her come across as snarky and almost downright disrespectful to the rest of the gang, the latest film where she has a crush on Coco Diablo is probably the first time I've liked her since Guess who ended.
Velma may have pretty much remained the same in just about every incarnation of Scooby Doo, but at least just about every one of her voice actors managed to nail the roles.
As for the new Velma tv series, after watching the first two episode just for the hell of it all i'll say is that i found it to be somewhat interesting but it definitely bad.
"velma" is yet another example of hollywoods recent tendency of putting a acharacters ethnicity and/or sexuality (which isnt a problem in itself) before everything including good story telling

Mystery Incorporated Valma is the best bc of the new take they didn't just make her the "smart one" but assertive and Sassy but lonely and insecure all rolled up into one while everyone else felt one note.

I had no idea that Linda Cardelini voiced Marcy in Mystery Incorporated. Haven't seen that since Matthew Lillard interacted with Shaggy (back when he was voiced by Casey Kasem).
My favorite potrayal of Velma is definitely the one from Mystery Incorporated. I love the character development she got in that show 😁and her sassy attitude was hysterical 😂I am interested to see how this new show with Velma holds up, hope it’s good. 😊

@@polishalastor142 I have no problems with that, the whole Shaggy x Velma relationship was messy from the start and personally as Ms. Mojo states “she was never a fashionista girl and boy crazy like Daphne”. Although there was a live action Scooby Doo film called Scooby Doo: Curse of the Lake monster there was a bit of romance between Shaggy and Velma but I never really saw it canon. I just love mystery inc because it finally made her feel more like a girl and less like a dude.
We have also seen different Versions of Scooby-Doo, Scrappy-Dappy-Doo, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, The Hex Girls, Flim-Flam and Vincent Van Ghoul, too.
The new Velma show is an absolute abomination.

Velma in What's New Scooby-Doo is peak Velma, it all goes downhill from there.
I would definitely recommend people to watch “Scooby Doo: mystery incorporated” or that live action mystery incorporated series instead of the new one on HBO Max. The new Velma TV show is not worth my time.
Maybe it is the nostalgia talking as I grew up with Scooby-Doo (reruns off course), but the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! had my favorite renditions of these characters, including Velma. Though, in Mystery Incorporated, I also rather liked her. She was excellently snarky and with Shaggy, it was interesting to see that their relationship problems weren't the fault of one side but rather a bit of them both. She a bit too controlling, he too afraid to bind him. Not the greatest couple but does every couple has to be perfect. The new series "Velma", I think I'll skip. Other than the unlikelyhood that they will add it to an active streaming service I'm subscribed to, it doesn't sound like it is what I'm looking for in a Scooby Doo series. Also, the reviews aren't that splendid it seems. I mean, 50% on Rotten Tomatoes and this from the critics (the audience is at 10% but seeing the controversies around it, kinda expected), that's both surprising and worrisome. But to those who like it, good for you, enjoy it!

Even though I grew up with the What's New Scooby Doo, I fell in love with the classic renditions of the characters more. I don't like that ever since the Mystery Inc, they've been playing off of the romantic drama and extreme ends of the characters. The original seasons were clean and simple, and the characters acted more mature, except shaggy and Scooby of course. And I love Mindy Cohn's take on the character, but isn't as friendly sounding as Nicole Jaffe's

of all the iterations of Velma over the years, the one i couldn’t stand was from scooby doo mystery incorporated. hell the show itself to me was a joke. didn’t expect her to be lesbian but hey honestly it works. kinda explains why she and shaggy never really tried to hook up like fred and daphne. i really hated her mystery incorporated iteration of velma because she was a control freak but more so because she tried to kick scooby out of the lives of the gang. when a girl who likes you gives you a choice between her and your life long best friend, stick with the best friend.

Even as far back as the original SDWAY series in '69, my parents, uncles, and aunts would glance at the show while all us kids would be watching it and say, _"That girl with the glasses... There's something STRANGE about her!"_ People knew _THEN!_ It's just that it was a cartoon geared for kids, and nobody wanted to make any waves, and spoil any already successful broadcasting contracts and subsequent profits that went with it... They had a good thing going... So, why totally ruin it just for ruination's sake - like they do in today's day and age?

Not gonna lie, I've loved how velma was portrayed over the years, right from the beginning to Mystery Incorporated (love how badass she is in that series) to the newer era of Scooby Doo with Kate Miccuci (love her so much.) However, the newer movies have massively got on my wick, after all the gang have been through previously, with the curse of crystal cove, the bermuda triangle, the samurai sword, you would have thought they wouldn't have taken such a backward step with her character. I feel like some of the films including the one featuring Kiss, return to zombie island, the 13th ghost and Happy halloween (the last one I really liked), I just felt like they made her WAY too skeptical and, to a point, arrogant and ignorant to her other friends opinions. I just feel like that's made her a lot less likable to the audiences in recent years but that could just be me. I just feel like none of the things the gang have been through previously matter in these later movies. It wasn't until the most recent one where she had a crush that I started to like her part in the story again.
