Is it me or does this song sound just like "Mama Knows Best" from Tangled?
There’s actually three different versions of the song in the first workshop version wasting away actually became mother knows best, then on Broadway it was I want the good times back and then it was turned into this song
Interestingly, this was Morgana's issue with Ursula in Disney's direct-to-video sequel! Their mother had always favored Ursula, the eldest sister with a talent for magic, in The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea. Of course, Triton and Ursula weren't related in the movies. That was going to be the case in early drafts of the story, though. Also, the cut song "Wasting Away" (replaced by "I Want The Good Times Back", funny enough) was reworked into "Mother Knows Best" for Tangled.
When I was a kid
A squirmy little squid
I was number seven born of seven little girls
Seven little pearls
Pretty as could be
Perfect to a "T"
All except for me!
Ugly as a slug
Hideous to hug
Daddy found me loathsome and disgusting I could tell
They all got adored
I just got ignored
Plus, to ease his guilt, a magic shell
Used to belong to my Papa Poseidon. Full of lethal hexes and spells, my little sea-snakes. The perfect gift for a spurned dangerously unstable child
Most of all Daddy loved one sister
So feminine, so fresh, so fine
I would watch as he hugged and kissed her
And I hated her guts from the bottom of mine
Daddy's Little Angel
Daddy's Little Sweet
Such a little frilly femme
She was seaweed and spice and everything nice
And I dreamed and I schemed how to put her on ice
Daddy's Little Angel
How could I compete
With a girl so heaven sent?
Just a spell from the shell
And back to heaven she went
Next what did I do?
Daughter number two
Flung her in a whirlpool, where I left her spinning round
Daughters three and four
Washed up on the shore
Sadly, five and six were never found
Didn't make my father love me
Flotsam and Jetsam:
Oh!

Jetsam (?):
Sweet
Flotsam (?):

THE HEELYS!!!!
Andrea .Gunnell our director considered heelys after roller blades. Heelys would have marked up our stage and well... the actors would have broken their necks. But seeing how they would have looked is awesome!!
i prefer i want the good times back because i like to think ursula's reaction in that being that she seemingly sort of forgot about ariel's existence until it's useful to her and that amuses me and feels extremely in character because she wouldn't necessarily care about her nieces at all.
it really does feel like ariel is more of a pawn in that set up than anything and i enjoy it a bit more, also i like the song better.
but i do revisit this video a lot because while i'm not a huge fan of the song itself, i think the actor playing ursula here is doing amazing and i love her voice!!
This song is perfect and her voice is incredibe
I’m going be honest I like the original song “I Want The Good Times Back” so much better.
I went to see this at a local theatre and they had little hand puppets for the eels and this was my favorite song. Great job
I’m using this song to audition for Ursula at my local theater auditions are in two weeks wish me luck and this video is perfect for me to practice so thank you
IM URSULA!!!! i am so excited to fo this

Fell into a whirlpool and may still be swimming round
Daughter four and five
Piranhas ate alive
Sadly daughter six was never found

Why are half of these lyrics incorrect? I've played Ursula, that's not how it goes.
@@davidwilliamklak you sang the current lyrics. These are the early lyrics. The song used to be longer 👍
Wow. The little mermaid musical theories are pretty creative.
I can't find the song on iTunes or Spotify
It was added after the Broadway production. Replacing "I want the good times back"
Marco53 its the dutch version of i want the good times back so i dont think you have iT in english on spotify but if you want the dutch version its pappies kleine meisje
Ursula: He grew into You Know Who
Me: Voldemort?
AGGHHHHGHGHHGHHGGHHGGH i can't believe this is what they replaced "I want the good times back" with!!!!!! why do bad decisions happen to good theatre?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
on Broadway the song "i want the good times back" was in this place "daddy's little angel" didn't exist yet and after the show closed on broadway it went over seas to Europe and disney and Alan Meinkin made some changes this song was one of them and its horrible! also Triton lost his song and Carlotta was written out entirely. Grimsby is the one who helps Ariel out of the tub...WTF?!?!?! its like they took wut was wonderful on paper and said to each other "how do we ruin this?"
Elphaboy this song provides more back story to Ursula’s character than I want the good times back, although I do prefer the other one over this...
thomas I like the backstory but I want the good times back is so great. I’m playing Ursula soon and I’m really disappointed
Elphaboy Bad decisions happen to good theatre sometimes but this was a good one
I love this song so much more than I want the good times back
I want the good times back is SO MUCH BETTER
Colin Andrews
I like both. This one gives more detail about her life, and the other one is really good too
I LOVE THIS SONG
Better yet a wicked stepmother and her daughters!
Well the reason for the wicked stepmother and step sisters is because that’s what they did to Cinderella I mean they literally did went after daddy’s little angel and they put on ice in a manner of speaking not that they’d killed her but they ruin her soo that is why I thought of that idea of them singing it that and the eels are played but girls and not boys !
she said darn and is in high school, but in our middle school, we say damn like it’s no big deal
ugh i love the opt up sm
I like this better than I want the good times back tbh
Why? At least for me, this song lags and I personally don't need a major backstory for Ursula or part of her motivation being jealous of Ariel. I like Good Times back because Ariel is just kind of a pawn, which gives the actress playing Ursula more room to explore how she feels about Ariel. This song limits how Ursula can interact with Ariel.
@@tannersebastian3675 I feel the same way, I undersand why they put this one in, but its just a huge lore dump that I really don't need IMO, I just want to bop to ursula wanting the good times back
@@tannersebastian3675 Maybe I'm biased since we're doing this play at my school and I'm playing Flotsam and we're doing this song, but I just prefer Daddy's Little Angel over I Want The Good Times Back. I listened to I Want The Good Times Back and... I just couldn't really get into it. I don't think it's a bad song, but I guess it just didn't fit as an Ursula song for me. This song on the other hand feels more in character for Ursula to me (I don't know why, it's just how I feel) and it's just more catchy imo
Ok, but it will never be as iconic as “I want the good times back”….
🤷🏻♀️
Ugh, I prefer I want the Good Times Back soooo much more
Yeah, I wish when my school did this we did that. Though, our Ursula did a good job
I prefer 'I Want The Good Times Back' as a song to listen to in a stand alone sense but this is a better fit for the show as a whole experience. At the end of the aforementioned song, you aren't really much further on in terms of plot than when the song started - all we learn is that Ursula decides to target Ariel as a way of seeking revenge. It takes an entire song for her to come to that conclusion and the only other new information we get is that Ursula lived the high life and now her life sucks.
With 'Daddy's Little Angel' all of the information is new. We learn specifics about her background, each line tells us something new and then it brings Ursula to the idea of using Ariel and her coming to that conclusion is less forced than (His daughter? Maybe? Wait!) because the theme of the number is 'the favourite child' it's a more logical thought process and it makes good use of the title, as it applies to all of the people that have stood in Ursula's way, bar Triton.
I would also choose to listen to 'I Want The Good Times Back' at home as it's a great song but = sitting through the show, I was weary of it when it came around as it was ANOTHER number that was just a 'number'. The spot called for a book song and the new song is more satisfying in context. Although I wouldn't generally choose to listen to it as often outside of a theatre.
Under the Sea is a showstopping number and the character of Ariel is in a completely different emotional place at the end of it, than the beginning. As all the sea creatures sing about the wonders of living under the sea in order that she realise how wonderful it is and stop dreaming of leaving for land, it literally does the opposite and she is left without any question of wanting to escape her current situation.
In the stage version of THE SOUND OF MUSIC 'The Lonely Goatherd' is the moment in which Maria and the children begin to bond. You see that although she was a failure as a nun and pretty useless when forced into the 'stern nanny' role, she actually excels as a mother figure, it is the first time the children find laughter again after the death of their birth mother. It literally signals the change in the dynamic.
In the movie, it's signals the beginning of the Captain falling for Maria as he sees how wonderful she is with the children and how much joy they have with her. It also signposts the moment when the Baroness decides Maria is a real threat and she needs to watch her back.
I don't think any of the above are useless :)
Ursula has one sister morgana.
@@aaliyahj342 really? So she murdered her other sisters, exspect Morgana. The one sister who soon got jealous of ursula because she was her mom's favorite.
Handsome And Gold well Ursula could have thought she killed her but didn't or morgana fake her death but I don't really know I mean the musicals for Disney movies are always from the movie
@@aaliyahj342 this one isn't. They made Ursula & Triton siblings. That's ridiculous because they don't even look alike. She's an octopin and he's a merman!
Handsome And Gold mom's and octopus dad 's a merman IDK I was just guessing Jess

Kristen Das her parents brought it to life! It was a labor of love but so neat to see it come together!!!!
Did they copy the Original Little Mermaid broadway?
Not copy. Musical theatre shows often have the soundtrack, script and sheet music produced so it can be done in other theatres. So then even though they aren't doing the show they're still making money off it.
Oh I'm so bummed that I want the good times back was booted for this WTH
This song is a bore! No offense the actress. She is performing it wonderfully but I Want The Good Times Back was so much better.

It's a school production, they have just copied the costumes and some of the design elements from the original Broadway Production.

that is an such an unfortunate costume, they could've got a better costume

Daddy's Little Princess, she's the one to get
Flotsam and Jetsam:
Fellas take it from a pro!
Ursula:
Oh! Daddy's Little Angel
Trust me fellas, I know!
Flotsam and Jetsam:
Daddy's Little Angel!
Ursula:
Yes indeedy I know!
Flotsam and Jetsam:
Daddy's Little Angel!
Ursula:
Trust me fellas!
Flotsam and Jetsam:
Lalala Lala Lalalalala la
When I was a kid
A squirmy little squid
I was number seven born of seven little girls
Seven little pearls
Pretty as could be
Perfect to a "T"
All except for me!
Ugly as a slug
Hideous to hug
Daddy found me loathsome and disgusting I could tell
They all got adored
I just got ignored
Plus, to ease his guilt, a magic shell
Used to belong to my Papa Poseidon. Full of lethal hexes and spells, my little sea-snakes. The perfect gift for a spurned dangerously unstable child
Most of all Daddy loved one sister
So feminine, so fresh, so fine
I would watch as he hugged and kissed her
And I hated her guts from the bottom of mine
Daddy's Little Angel
Daddy's Little Sweet
Such a little frilly femme
She was seaweed and spice and everything nice
And I dreamed and I schemed how to put her on ice
Daddy's Little Angel
How could I compete
With a girl so heaven sent?
Just a spell from the shell
And back to heaven she went
Next what did I do?
Daughter number two
Flung her in a whirlpool, where I left her spinning round
Daughters three and four
Washed up on the shore
Sadly, five and six were never found
Didn't make my father love me
Flotsam and Jetsam:
Oh!
Ursula:
But it didn't bring me down, oh no!
Flotsam and Jetsam:
No! No!
Ursula:
Too sad though when Dad caught that very rare and lethal flu
Flotsam (?):
So true
Jetsam (?):
Poor you
Flotsam and Jetsam:
Boo hoo
Ursula:
With no sisters in the line above me
I inherited the whole damn show
Was it fun?
Oh, a ton
So much fun I forgot
That my Dad
Also had
An addition tot
Yes, a son
Still age one
But I figured, so what?
Til that snotnose little baby grew
Flotsam and Jetsam:
He grew
Ursula:
He grew
Flotsam and Jetsam:
And grew
Ursula, Flotsam, and Jetsam:
He grew into you know who!
Ursula (Spoken): Triton! A male heir. And once he came of age he stole everything from me. Every ocean! Every lake! Every pond! Every puddle. So my dear Flotsam and Jetsam, it's time I took revenge. Revenge on what he loves most!
For now he has a child
Jetsam (?):
Sweet
Flotsam (?):
But rather wild
Ursula:
And she has him wrapped around her flimsy little fin
She will be our in!
She'll be what we use
Bait he can't refuse
There's no way we'll use!
Flotsam (?):
Daddy's Little Angel
Jetsam (?):
Daddy's Little Pet
Ursula:
Daddy's Little Priceless Gem
Jetsam (?):
So sassy!
Flotsam (?):
So smart!
Flotsam and Jetsam:
The key to his heart!
Ursula:
Ruin her
As it were
It'll rip him apart!
Ursula, Flotsam, and Jetsam:
Daddy's Little Princess, she's the one to get
Flotsam and Jetsam:
Fellas take it from a pro!
Ursula:
Oh! Daddy's Little Angel
Trust me fellas, I know!
Flotsam and Jetsam:
Daddy's Little Angel!
Ursula:
Yes indeedy I know!
Flotsam and Jetsam:
Daddy's Little Angel!
Ursula:
Trust me fellas!
Flotsam and Jetsam:
Lalala Lala Lalalalala la
Ursula: I know!
From a storytelling aspect this is, technically, a much stronger song. As much as I love 'I Want The Good Times Back' it's another DHA song on the back of the heroine's. I can see why it was changed. At least we still got IWTGTB on record.
My problem with it from a storytelling aspect is that it’s a kid show and while yes I want the good times back is a little dark with like the caviar joke this one literally tells us how she murdered her sisters so like it’s yeah
What is a “DHA” song?
