  • I do not share any political idea's shown in the video, it was purely made for historical purposes only.
The video shows Landsberg am Lech during ww2 and the Third Reich. Starting at Landsberg prison where Hitler was incarcerated and wrote Mein Kampf in 1924. Then moving onto the Dynamit AG factories in the Frauenwald part of Landsberg with video footage of the facilities and some brief information of the process of what happened there.

In the mid-1950s my father was stationed at what was then called Landsberg Air Base, now Fliegerhorst Penzing. As a 3rd-grader I rode my school bus pass Landsberg Prison daily as we proceeded from nearby Bobingen to our school in the Saarburg Kaserne in western Landsberg. The Saarburg Kaserne had been used to house displaced persons only a few years earlier. Later, when we moved onto Landsberg Air Base, my school bus passed the Bayern Tor (Bavarian Gate) which served as a backdrop to the photo of Hitler standing by his car. En route to our school the bus passed through the main square (Marienplatz) of Landsberg where the video showed the Nazi ceremony with all the burning torches. (Until I saw this video, I had no idea that the Marienplatz had been the scene of a Nazi rally.) Landsberg Air Base had two outlying areas for which it was responsible. Area A was Lechfeld Air Base, which is located a few miles north of Landsberg and is an active Luftwaffe air base today. Area B was the Dynamit Aktien Gesellschaft (DAG) covered in this video. DAG was begun in 1940 as a munitions complex, but abandoned two years later. Then in 1944 the Nazis decided to build a huge underground aircraft factory, code-named Weingut II. The factory was built using slave labor from nearby concentration camps. The end of the war came before Weingut II was finished, but the structure still stands, I understand. I wanted to visit Area B as a kid, but my father never made arrangements for us to go there. You had to get special permission because the area was covered with with camouflaged buildings and incomplete structures.

Hi Michael, this area is truly fascinating. I hope myself i can visit weingut 2 sometime soon, as i plan on asking for permission to visit there. There is also another weingut underground production tunnel on the other side of Munich, in Mühldorf which i believe was to be used in the production of the Jumo 004 or BMW 003 jet power units which is situated in the forest and you can freely visit there although it is not as intact as the one in Landsberg. Yes there was many marches in Landsberg in the thirties as it was deemed very important to the Hitler Youth and the NSDAP. I have visited a handful of the concentration camps in the near by Landsberg and Kaufering area and i fortunately got to meet the curator of one of them who was nice enough to tell me about the history of the concentration camp itself, which was very nice but also very sad at the same time. Many of the buildings in the frauenwald area have been removed but there still is around 20 left with also parts of the old railway tracks remaining. If you are planning on visiting the area i would be more than happy to send you the locations of the remaining buildings.

Michael, I think I know you and we were classmates! My father was also in the AF and stationed there at the same time, except we first lived at the Kaserne and later moved moved to the Air Base. Actually, before that, we lived several months up in Haunstetten, a suburb of Augsburg. It was there that I got a first hand glimpse of the destruction that had taken place with the bombing during the War, but I was really quite unaware of what it was all about. At the Kaserne we lived in a fourplex building that was probably used as some Nazi office of some sort. My wife and I traveled there several years ago to see if I could still find the house. We finally located it, after some trekking, and I immediately recognized it. It had hardly changed, with the exception of a few modern additions. I had no idea at the time, and only found out recently, that this site had been used to house concentration camp survivors for a few years after the War. It was quite emotional to revisit a childhood home that had many pleasant memories for me. I would liked to have gone to the Base to see where we lived there, but of course, that's verboten. I walked to school on the Kaserne, but took the bus, like you, when we lived out there. The whole time we spent in Germany, and travelling around other countries while there, was a magical time and some of my best memories were of life there. I was looking forward to coming back to the U.S. in 1958, but when we arrived, it was a big let down. The magic was gone. It's hard to imagine a time not long before we got there, that Hitler had been imprisoned there and wrote Mein Kampf and that the Hitler Youth actually got their start there and held big rallies downtown. The Germans certainly turned their act around and finally got on the right track. Germany is still a wonderful country and I would like to make at least one more trip over there and spend more time doing more side trips to the surrounding area.
Well, enough for now. If you're interested in further contact, my name is actually Tom Zike and my email is flash317@suddenlink.net. Hope to hear from you.

In Frauenwald, there is a strasse called Celsiusstrasse. On the street there is a new werkstatt or lager im not sure what its called, but was only built last year. Directly behind the new building to the east it is in the woods. You will not find it on google maps because it is so well hidden. 48°03'53.6"N 10°50'39.7"E here are the coordinates. I also found a 50 cal round at this place.

That particular one is in a separate part of the forest a bit further north. Also, that part of the forest is used for archery nowadays so I wouldn't recommend strolling around in it.
