They thought that someone else's love would be all they need. The song I personally feel is a way bts tell us to be independent. They say they don't want to be dependent on someone to know they are fine and have the approval to love themselves because undoubtedly, everyone has the approval to love themselves. They tell us they don't care about what others have to say about them, they will make sure they will be fine. They tell us as Armys that we must also not linger for approval and look within our hearts, forgive ourselves with a smile and make a better version of ourselves while still giving the new version our authentic smiles and characteristics. They say to give up on crying over the mistakes and get up, shrug them off and walk forward. But those mistakes are ours only. Therefore they say to bid them a goodbye with a smile, they didn't say to forget completely. They say that we must keep them as they are our scars but as we bid them goodbye they become our constellations. They convey us to move forward without giving up ourselves and be fine on our own since bts won't be always able to provide us comfort all the time and vice versa. Respect for these boys

So in save me, the lyrics were: 'I need your love before I fall.' Meaning they thought they needed someone else's love and not their own. They thought that someone else's love would be all they need. But, when they found out that that person's love was fake love, they realised that the only love they need is love from oneself, hence why this is called I'm fine.
They only need to love themselves.
I think they used save me in the intro to show that these two songs are connected, or to act as a conclusion of the song save me.

For those who don't know, in the FAKE LOVE mv, the writing on the glass in the room taehyung was in said "I'm fine", which reads "save me" upside down. That's why the beginning of the song was just like save me. I can relate to that cuz a lotta times when I'm sad, and people ask me if there's anything wrong I just say I'm fine, when I just wanna shout save me. Also, save me talked about being in a low point in life when you just can't deal with life and you just lose all hope and you just want someone to notice and help and save you ("give me your hand and save me, I need your love before i fall"). And then bts bring just more awesome songs to show us that's, it's okay. You're gonna be fine, and you'll find that hope again and the dark time will end ("I'm feeling just fine... I'll let go of your hands now... even if I fall again, I'm okay").
This whole thing is mind blowing and I just dont know how to process the fact that our boys are just so smart and they can really write lyrics that could touch everyone and help us all find hope in life.

The song I personally feel is a way bts tell us to be independent. They say they don't want to be dependent on someone to know they are fine and have the approval to love themselves because undoubtedly, everyone has the approval to love themselves. They tell us they don't care about what others have to say about them, they will make sure they will be fine. They tell us as Armys that we must also not linger for approval and look within our hearts, forgive ourselves with a smile and make a better version of ourselves while still giving the new version our authentic smiles and characteristics. They say to give up on crying over the mistakes and get up, shrug them off and walk forward. But those mistakes are ours only. Therefore they say to bid them a goodbye with a smile, they didn't say to forget completely. They say that we must keep them as they are our scars but as we bid them goodbye they become our constellations.
