It's a miracle to have one player who is the best (or at least joint best) scorer, the best passer, and the best dribbler in the game for the last 9 years. Players who are the best in 2 of these 3 categories at their time are extremely rare, but to be the best in all 3 is a f***in miracle. If he didn't even score goals I would still consider him the best player in the world, but the goals just propel him out of this galaxy football-wise. Some players might have had more successful seasons or even careers than him, by being part of better teams, but there has never been a better individual player than Lionel Messi walking the face of this earth.

Messi doesn’t like to be the goal scorer as much as he likes to be the playmaker. He said it. “I’d rather push my team up then to be selfish scoring goals” , the thing is messi is just too good that even when he becomes the best playmaker he also outscores literally everyone including strikers around the world. I grew up watching the Brazilian ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Zidane... i have never seen anyone as good and as consistent than Messi. Even during Barcelona’s bad years (2013, 2014, 2016) messi still outperformed everyone. Messi doesn’t have competition. I really admire how humble he is despite being the best. His unselfishness has costed him several balón d or especially now that it has become a popularity and marketing contest with out considering all around individual performances.

Everyone says that Messi's main rival is Ronaldo but what people fail to acknowledge is that Messi competes with Ronaldo in terms of goal scored, he also competes with Neymar and Hazard in most dribbles and take ons completed and lastly he also competes with talented/prove midfielders like Modric and KDB in terms of assists, key passes, through balls and being the cheif playmaker in the side.

There are great players in football but can someone name a player who is better playmaker, goal scorer, winger, dribbler, CM, than Messi. The guy can player anywhere and top the charts but people will compare him to a poacher, a winger turned striker, or a center mid when he can do all and come out on top. Football is cruel to messi. We are all used to privileges of his consistency that we take it for granted. His work rate on field is unbelievable and I am sure outside of field it's great too, we just don't see it more often like ronaldo showing it on public. Just enjoy this art.
