If this is done by 20% of car journalists, manufacturers would give us better cars because buyers wouldnt be confused by bad and irrelevant crap new cars do/have. BRAVO TOM🙏
I really appreciate your focus on suspension tune and ride quality; control and comfort are higher than 0-100 times on my list of priorities. We don’t get the 200 model in the US, but the ventilated seats are available and a must have option here in Southern California 😊
Anyone buying a new C-Class will greatly benefit from this video... truthful, informative and based on 'hands-on' experience. Great to know that a base model spec is the pick of the bunch. Not sure how well received this video will be with Mercedes Benz Australia. I hope they take note of Tom's comments and recommendations
That was a really good honest review, Tom. It's enlightening to hear you say that the C200 is your favorite for the reasons you've given in your professional opinion. It's refreshing to know you don't have to spend thousands more for a good vehicle and experience. Might go and test drive now.
I am from India and I was looking for a review with the C 200 messages. I must say this is the best review with a complete deep knowledge. I have come across UA-cam.
Good review. I have a 2 year old W206 C200 4-Matic AMG Line and everyone "mocks" the tiny 1.5L engine. But it's a great car. It looks amazing, it's comfy and he can be very fun if needed... Was going to buy the C300, but it was almost 10k more expensive and it wasn't worth it at all. Really happy with the car. Cheers
Active suspension and porpoising Mercedes 😂where have we seen that before ? Great job Tom . True for most luxury cars. The value is best at the bottom of the range
Agreed. Usually one would aspire to get the higher-end engine range of each model, but not in the case of the current C-class. Ironic, and disappointing dust-magnet interiors.
Excellent review! We have ordered one for the Wife which arrives first week of May. We did go with the C200 with the AMG sports pack on 19’s in Obsidian Black with the two tone black and brown interior. Fell in love with it when Mercedes gave us a lend of one for a couple days.
I test drove today a C300 avangard - because a C220d was not aviable but... hell what a beast ... and so quite in driving... and so fast, and so smooth if you only touch the gas pedal .... but in the same way ... damn what a plastic bomber in comparison to our A-Class W176 AMG-Line... Our 9 year old A-Class looks and feels WAY more quality inside than the c-class... really ... Every touch on the plastic makes noises like "pls dont push me too hard or i will break apart...". Or the door sound, when you close them, that sounds soo cheap against our A-Class or W205... You think you close the door of a FIAT... And the knees while driving... you have to press them if you want or not against hard metal from the doors... and our big display often lagged so much... and one time then it stopped working ... its really disappointing ... to drive its really great and feels fantastic... but if i saw that the car costs close to 80.000 dollar... feels like a 40.000 car inside ... was really disappointing ...
I’d really recommend against that. The adaptive dampers actually make comfort worse - because a boaty, unsettled and poorly controlled ride is not comfortable.
@@chasingcars could you please let me know a little more about the difference as I don't have the chance to try both suspensions at this time? In particular, I am interested which suspension will give quieter ride on a good highway road, and also if you hit a speed bumper or a potholes at city riding? Not interested in some spirited fun riding, interested in the ride that would, lets say be legal at all times.
A very interesting review, especially re suspension control, l drive a 2021 Passat Business sedan 140tsi but I’ve always loved the C class Mercedes and the BMW 3 series, when I see the Mercedes interior it’s on another level but my Passat was $50,000new ( mine was a demonstrator at$44,800) unfortunately no longer available in sedan form. I’m not sure what I would replace it with when it comes time to sell. How do you think a Arteon 140 tsi would compare with the C200 ignoring the Benzes badge of course. Thanks for an interesting review.
Only one issue with c200 outside of fixed pricing is for 80k active lane assit should be standard yetits not even an option. So for w205 c300 owners we have to drop a major feature that is available on many cars much cheaper
Thanks for the honest review. Refreshing to see the base spec model is the best out of the range. A lot of ignorance out there who simply dismiss models with the smaller capacity engine without driving them. Great job Tom.
im owning c200 4M more than half and year and i can agree with u , that this car is really pretty quick, even in awd is 7,1 (vs7,3 rwd) .. it feels way faster.. only what i dislike is fake engine sound
We have owed a C250 and now have the C43. Both 205 chassis and both beautiful cars but I think your a little hard on the C43. If you expect it to drive like a C200 your going to be disappointed. If you drive it hard your going to be excited and love it. They are an awesome angry little car when your in the mood and quiet settled in comfort. In sports and sports + the gearbox is excellent when driving it as intended. Driving it like a nanna in sports the gear change can be a little abrupt but nothing to be concerned about. The C43 handles excellently in the corners at speed. We love it.
C200, passive standard suspension, light coloured interior, got it. Thank you very much, excellent review. Would you recommend diesel or petrol engine? How about the C220, how “better” compared to C200?
I cannot emphasise enough how informative this video/review was. Liked and favourited! Thanks so much, nothing like it on the internet. Out of interest, what are your thoughts on the CLA 45S (that launched in 2018-2022, not the new upgraded '23 look)
Much appreciated! With regard to the CLA45, it's an absolute rocket-ship. Very different car in feel to the C200, though - one is a stiff track weapon and the other is a very laid-back luxury sedan
Can you test the Mini range? Clubman would be my pick. Dual mode ("adaptive") suspension was an interesting one, hopefully BMW/MINI isn't that bad. Thank you for the reviews.
Great review, I am about to buy a new C200 would you recommend me to purchase a service plan package or not worth it! driving the car average 5000km/year
could not find the right merc for mum, E class is too big, but this in grey, with beige interior, 18' wheels and standard suspension, no AMG, looks great and saves money (as opposed to C300). Only thing is that they are not leather seats. Although the leather seats I've read are coated in some sort of plastic at least in a BMW. 1st world problems. I could not have figured this out on my own. Great great review.
Wow 👏awesome review! Thanks for your great and trustworthy video! This is the best W206 C200 review I have seen so far by far. What is your opinion about the C180 compare to the C200.
What about the new GLC based on the same platform. Re wheel rims - the 5 star appearance types are easier to keep clear of dulling brake dust as opposed to the rims of your preference.
Top draw review. So informative and the information given offers excellent insight into what makes the perfect C class from first hand experience. Brilliant review 👌👏
Hi Tom, always pleasant to watch you reviewed on cars. I have read and watched quite a few reviews on Chasing Cars, Drive, Carsales, CarExpert, so on and so forth, it is a bit disappointed that no one mentions speakers. I am fully aware of semiconductors shortage, and I saw a new merc specs, it should be 16 Burmeiser speakers but only 5 were installed. Can you kindly tell me how many Burmester speakers in your car? This is important to me before I go for C200. Many thanks. Excellent review by the way.
In other countries you can get non-piano black options for the centre console of the C-class, but in Australia, the centre console is always piano black no matter what trim you choose, why? Just why?
so is edition C basically a cheaper version of AMG? I was looking at c180 coupe Edition C and couldn't find out what is special about edition C version
I own a black C200 from June ‘22. Got exactly the same wheels, same interior layout, standard suspension. Didn’t want the AMG pack cause what’s the point. In Poland we don’t have the Edition C so what a coincidence 😂
As someone who owns a Passat sedan and will probably never buy another one again (ever tried moving house or picking up anything bulky with a sedan?), I'm surprised there's even still a market for expensive sedans (or any sedans) in Australia. This should be a wagon/shooting brake!
Haven't had that effect at all, even wearing denim - if there's a mark it wipes off. But you might have had leather, not ARTICO, which is more durable.
Hi mate. I’ve gone for the c200 AMG line which comes with the sports suspension. Is this adaptive/air or just regular suspension? Curious since there doesn’t seem to be much information. Thoughts much appreciated
The AMG line doesn’t have a sports suspension. The regular C-Class models currently only have two suspension systems: Passive - as fitted to this car - works well Adaptive dampers - part of the optional engineering package - not especially good
Love your review, very detailed and nice to watch. I myself am from Europe and own this car as well - but I have the C180 version (I assume this is not available in Australia).
Hi Robert, I am from Germany top and currently considering whether to take the c180 (more extras and AMG Line) or c200 (less extras and Avantgarde Line). Were you able to test drive both vehicles? How satisfied are you with the performance of your C180?
@@sanibel1108 Hi Mike, I was able to test them both. I just like the AMG line a lot more in terms of how it looks. The diamond grill is amazing and I'm just OK with the small difference in performance (C180 vs C200). The AMG C180 just feels more sporty, because it looks more sporty to me. I used to drive an S550, so this is something completely different. But overall I like the car a lot for the budget and all the features. There are some small annoying things such as I don't really think the wireless charger is very good and the controls for the roof feels "cheap". I love the interior, the endless amount of cool features, the dynamic lightning is crazy cool and it feels like a Mini-S class (Mercedes sales people will also tell you that, lol) but I would give my C180 a solid 8.7/10.
I have C180 estate (1.5 engine for EU market) with avantgarde package and some additional equipment. The most annoying thing is the quality of interior. There are so many parts that squeek that sometimes it is hard to find the source of these annoying voices. The fuel consumption is acceptable in the city but it is really shines in highways (6 liters/100km when you drive 120km/h). I like 360 cameras and MBUX works well in general however there are some stupid bugs which are really annoying.
im very much disappointed how much plastics are now in the new C class, i am going still going to hang on to my 2019 C class i think this was the last generation that still have chrome trims
Can I expect to deposit blue dye from my denim jeans on the light coloured seats? I’ve coloured up several pairs of white shoes in my time in the same way 5:05
C200 is comfy has acceptable fuel economy and really nice revving but its got a squeaky interior and white tends to stain , its 0-60 maybe 7sec but the feeling you get from sport plus mode and launching that turbo is full dopamine me and my friends like to joke that we do 0-60 ie 60kph xD also the tire squeal at launch is quite the head turner
Great video. Thankfully I got it right and ordered mine almost exactly in the configuration you recommended (except that I got it in the AMG Line trim). Getting it next month and can’t wait. Thanks for the update.
Hi Tom, you mentioned that you couldn't get wood trim for the dash. Is that because it isn't available to order anymore? Or was it just not available in Mercedes' press/demo fleet?
I had this car as long term rent. Got it with 50 km on the counter. After 1000 km died electronics. The rental company replace that on with another one, with 300 km on the counter. After 3000 km engine blew. They give me back the first one after it was 'fixed' and after that, until i return it with 35 000 km and 1 year after i had few more visits to service because of electronics. Material quality is not even close to 3 series or A4, not even VW Passat. Design is great. Gearbox great. C220 d is powerful, very very punchy and it can reach almost 240 km/h. Amazing for 2 liter diesel. I had also last two variants of C 220 d. They were much much better in terms of reliability. Interior quality was the same.
I don't see how that is true when the new C200 is such a good entry-level luxury vehicle. The days of the E-Class being the junior Mercedes ended in the 1980s and they are not returning. These days it is the A-Class, CLA and GLA that are the entry point, but the premium feel traditionally kicks in with the RWD models.

Ive had many C classes since the W202 but now I wouldn’t touch MB with a barge pole. Sad days.
Thanks Chris.
@ 03:15 was that under steer or just horrible driving 😮
No seat cooling at that price? Are they having a laugh?
Sadly still a rare feature with Euros
@@chasingcars Are these Artico seats without cooling any good in our hot Aussie summers compared to genuine leather?
Excellent and very useful video. Definitely need more videos like this.
Thank you. 👍👍👍
Glad you liked it!

Thanks
You're welcome.
What about the C220d?
We don’t get any diesel C-class models in Australia
Mercedes used to be King back in the 70s the 80s and into the 90s. Today I''ll get a Lexus ES Hybrid.
The C Class really devalues the entire marque.
The E Class should be the entry level car.
No wagon, no sale. I'll stick with my liftback for now
