Their song 'FIRE WOMAN' is like an Eighteen Wheeler Truck going down a mountain with no brakes on black ice. It's out of-control banging that doesn't stop. Thanks, Brotherman, for playing The Cult. Could you give Fire Woman a listen? As always your commentary was awesome and right on.
The Cult was definitely a part of the new wave/ alt rock movement. Hard driving drums driving made Sanctuary a huge dance club favorite. And their guitarist, you can hear, was influenced by early U2's the Edge. If you were to play early U2, Flock of Seagulls, and the Cult back to back, you'd hear their (guitarists) similarities. Great stuff!
Before they were The Cult they were Death Cult, and before they were Death Cult they were Southern Death Cult, and when they were Southern Death Cult they released a single called Moya which is one of the finest songs ever recorded.
next cult song: "love removal machine" previously known as: the southern death cult the death cult this song would instantly fill the dance floor of the clubs in the '80s - fantastic time ❤
“Love” is a great album, more alternative-psych than their harder rock albums that followed. Still listen to it occasionally, my 17 year old self was into it big time when it came out and Billy Duffy’s guitar playing was a big influence on my own playing. “Rain”, Hollow Man” “Love Removal Machine” are other great ones to check out. The singer Ian Astbury sang for the reformed The Doors for quite awhile. Great stuff Shawn, thanks! ✌️
"Fire Woman' for the next Cult song!! It's very rocking. This song is early 80s and Fire Woman is late 80s. They went from kind of an alt/goth rock to a more blues hard rock. All of their stuff is great, I love both eras, and also their 90s stuff. They still tour and Ian, the singer, still has a great voice. I saw them live twice in the early 90s, so awesome.
Got to see The Cult as the openers for Billy Idol back in the late 80's. It was the last show of the tour, and their seemed to be some "tension" between the bands. For their encore, The Cult all came out on stage with Steve Stevens (Billy Idol's Guitar Player)T-Shirts, except Lead Singer Ian Astbury, who came out in a Billy Idol T-Shirt. They sang the Steppenwolf song "Born To Be Wild", and trashed all their equipment ala The WHO. A lot of fun to watch, but I worried about the scene backstage.
That's so awesome. I saw that tour in L.A. in '87!! Sadly I don't remember much about it except that our ride ditched us so some guys offered us a ride back into town from the Forum. Turns out they were members of L.A. Guns & Faster Pussycat🤣They were going to Cathouse, the big rock club then, so we went in and saw it. Was totally wild, perfectly late 80s Los Angeles. Good times!
Yeah, they don't do concerts like they used to. Used to be a sense of adventure and fun, now you just try to survive and come out the other side unscathed. Happy it all worked out for you Jennifer, plus you got to meet some Rock Stars in the bargain.
So happy you reacted to this, thanks Shawn😊Loved this reaction!♥ Yep, many 80's songs had longer album versions. I'm glad you reacted to this video though. The Cult's singer Ian Astbury sang lead for The Doors tribute band Riders on the Storm (which had two original Doors members, Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger) from 2002 to 2007. Another gothic rock band you should hear sometime is The Sisters of Mercy.
Absolute banger 🔥🔥. If you’re a fan of the Le Mans 24hr race, and listen to Radio Le Mans for commentary, you will hear this as the introduction to their hourly updates!
Shawn please don't stop on this song although this is a classic they have so many more songs that are better all the reactors just react to this one and Firewoman please check out many more of their songs you will not be disappointed, also they go different styles whenever they want to. A few of their great songs are RISE, SUN KING,PEACE DOG,HEART OF SOUL,LOVE REMOVAL MACHINE,BIG NEON GLITTER,SOUL ASYLUM, GIVE ME MERCY, VENDETTA X, COMING DOWN (DRUG TONGUE),SWEET SOUL SISTER, THE PHOENIX, LITTLE FACE, BLACK ANGEL,SPEED OF LIGHT, C.O.T.A.,RAIN, APHRODISIAC JACKET, BAD FUN, and LOVE
Too many killer songs to pick, but "Rain" or "Wild Flower" are good starters. Caught them live here in the U.K. in the mid-90's. Whoa..., Page wasn't the first guitarist to use a violin bow. That honour goes to Eddie Phillips, of U.K. mod/freakbeat band The Creation by a few years.
The guitar has a "chorus" effect. Which makes sense in light of you thinking it was 12 strings. The chorus makes it sound sort of multiplied or something. They kind of evolved from a goth band to mainstream hard rock. But still liked by many of the goth crowd
Hello brother, great reaction! I thought I'd suggest another song by them, if interested. "The Cult - Rain HD" (by the channel: The Arkive) --This song is from the bands second album called "Love" released in 1985 and reached number #17 on the UK Singles chart. And as always, I enjoyed rocking with you. Thanks for sharing.
It wasn't gothic rock in the 80"s there was no such thing. They were a cross between hair metal and glam rock with maybe a touch of punk in my opinion. People these days like to use modern labels on past eras which is just wrong.
@@rickb.4168 I see what you are saying, however, I think you are glossing over a key point. There is a big difference between labelling something centuries apart once everyone who was alive then is long gone and decades later because you can't be bothered to listen to the people who were there.
D C G..... The whole song......Brilliant! They have more songs on this Album (Love) with the same chord progression. Brilliant Band, one of my favorites!!!!✔️💯🤘🔥🤙
Saw this video on MTV when it first aired and went out and bought the cassette, and every album they made after it.

This song slaps as the kids say. Slapped in '85, slaps now.

This song rips. Even Better: The Cult's FIRE WOMAN

Haha hilarious episode
"Fire Woman"!!!
Big hit in the strip clubs (so I hear 😉)
Fire Woman

I've always liked the Cult's sound man, good group.
Underrated band that had some great tunes... this song is one of their best.
I love to crank this one up wherever I am.
The drum just drives the whole thing. Relentless heavy beat behind it all.
❤❤❤ Try "Fire Woman", it's great!
Oh lord I love The Cult!
Definitely Fire Woman!
Greatly underrated band IMO. They have some real bangers - check out Love Removal Machine, or Peace Dog off their Electric album, for starters 🤘
This was the only song I would dance to at the teenage new-wave dance clubs.

A banger of a tune from start to finish.
Fire Woman!!!🔥🔥🔥
Witches of Eastwick meets AC/DC
Love Removal Machine is my favorite The Cult song.

Gotta try FIRE WOMAN by the CULT 🔥👍
This and the rest of the cult is just good ol rock n roll .. fantastic
Depends on how deep you want to dive, but The Cult put out a whole lot of great music. Worth the trip.

Saw them back in '86 with Divinyls opening (RIP, Chrissy). Both bands just kicked ass.
Another bangrrrr Shawn! Slainte mate ☘️🇺🇲
Still love The Cult!
They originally went by Death Cult and more Punk. Their song “Edie (Ciao Baby)” is awesome. Then of course “Love Removal Machine” is killer!
Super song
……he has The Edge sound….. on guitar from U2. The Cult have many hits !!! Please continue the journey 🔥🎸❤️
Ian Astbury is lead vocalist since 1983.
LOVE REMOVAL MACHINE is the banger to end all bangers. Turn it up and get ready. 🙂🙂🙂

It’s actually a Boss BF-2 Flanger that he’s using, set up to sound more chorus-y.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
There is extended track. Also lead singer was part of new doors and played with original doors members

Check out the blue oyster cult "don't fear the reaper " I think you'll love it!

It was totally Goth.
There was no such thing as medieval in the 9th century!
Do you see my point?
Labels happen after a movement or early into it. not before it starts. 😂
We didn’t have hair metal in the U.K. that was a very American horror story.
