Nissan V8 Armada Starter

  • I needed to replace the starter in a Nissan V8 Armada and could not find anybody to show me how on You Tube. So here is my version of an instructional video. I strongly recommend that you not do this at home. There are too many steps and too many things that you can break. This project took us a little over two hours even though we had never done this job before. But it was accomplished by a master mechanic with over forty years in the car repair business. I would suspect that a home mechanic would never have enough of the appropriate kinds of tools to finish this job.
    We laughed when the book labor rate to change an Armada starter called for only one hour of billable labor. That was totally ridiculous. So if you are a very advanced and experienced mechanic, this video may be helpful even if just to find the location of the starter. The starter symptoms for this job were starter click click and no rotation.

    I greatly appreciate the video I did the work myself and with the help of you & another youtuber I save about $1200 it only cost me $100 for the starter & an afternoon of work.
    Thanks a million

    Very well done video! Good editing, good camera work too. Good narration. I would add that you do NOT need to remove the fuel line. The phlennum can be moved out of the way easily with fuel line still attached. I would also add Since this is an involved kind of job - be 100% sure your new starter actually WORKS. I did this yesterday only to find the new starter was defective. BUMMER!!!!!!!

      Just wanted to chime in and confirm this as well; fuel line does not need to be disconnected. Did this job today as a fairly experienced tech and only took me about an hour and a half. Long handle flex head ratchet plus a cheater bar made the starter bolts very easy to remove. Was a pretty easy job imo.

    You're a life saver! Watched this twice and was able to do it on my own (2008 Nissan Titan SE Flex fuel). Saved me tons of money haha Took me just under 4 hours since I didn't have the new starter with me. Thanks for this video!

    This wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. You were smart about taking the throttle body off the plenum. The FSM says to drain coolant and remove the hoses from the throttle body and leave it on the plenum. Your way is better because you don't have to mess with the coolant. It took me 45 minutes to take everything off to get to the starter. 15 minutes to replace the starter. 30 minutes to put it back together. 1.5 hours total install time.........(But I spent 2 hours cleaning the ports and plenum when it was all apart. it was filthy. I also seafoamed the engine afterwards.)

    Thanks for posting this video! It saved me a lot of time trying to figure it out by myself - ended up taking me 2.5hrs. The worse part for me was laying on the engine to get the starter bolts out. Piling on a bunch of old towels softened it up a bit.

    • @adamfutch5433
      @adamfutch5433 7 років тому +2

      3.75 hours is the same thing as saying 3:45. The .75 represents three quarters of an hour.
      Where many people believe a quarter is only represented by 25, in reality you may have a quarter of anything. To determine a quarter, you multiply the whole by the decimal.
      Dollar: Whole= 1, Quarter=. 25, so 3 quarters: .75 X 1= =.75, pretty simple.
      Time: Whole= 60 minutes, Quarter=.25, so 3 quarters: .75 X 60= 45 for 45 minutes.

    Only thing I didn't have was a tool to disconnect the fuel line from the rail. $4. It's not fun but mechanically inclined people that take their time can do it. No worse than changing plugs on a minivan.

  • @rawbasicrawbasic
    @rawbasicrawbasic 6 років тому +2

    The video is good buy you didn't have to remove the throttle body from the manifold it's only 2 hose to disconnect and by doing that you don't have to change the throttle body gasket

    • @kennymaindenison2245
      @kennymaindenison2245 5 років тому

      Yeah but you rarely have to change the gasket on a throttle body gasket plus it keeps the coolant system closed so you dont end up with a air bleedi g problem,you dont have to add antifreeze,etc.. But its really to each their own way of doing the work.

      On our Armada, we would turn the key to start, we could hear the relay click, but nothing happened. Solenoid was dead.

    • @jd7896
      @jd7896 10 місяців тому

      In my case it was an intermittent no-crank-no-start with an accompanied clicking noise when the key was turned to start the engine. Sometimes it would work, others it would take four or five tries; very typical of a failing starter solenoid. Best to take care of it while it's still intermittent lest you ended up stranded somewhere when it goes out for good.

    This is the most stupidest, bone head location for a starter. There is plenty of room at the normal location at the bottom on the engine. Yup that’s exactly what I did spent 20 minutes looking for the starter. I’ve never had to look for the starter on anything else.
